Amazing video. I had a question. At around 9:04 in the video, you state that the outer layers of the sun crash towards the core, this releases immense gravitational energy, and this energy is released in the form of neutrinos. However, this seems to be misleading. If I'm not wrong, the neutrinos are not released during the outer layers crashing towards the core, but rather from the core collapse, combining protons and electrons. Plz correct me if I'm mistaken

What a lovely tribute to your mother, she would have been incredibly proud of where this channel has gotten to 🤍 I lost my mother in her 3rd bout of cancer so I can appreciate how much of a fighter Cecilia was. And I know this video was 2 years ago but please don't feel you need to apologise for taking time away... _nothing_ is more important than family. Both my mum & dad were instrumental in fostering my love of learning everything science, arts & engineering-related so I frequently think of them when I learn new things in videos like yours... and while I absolutely miss being able to share all these new discoveries with them, over time some of the sadness has been replaced with appreciation for this gift that they've given to me. My mum also passed away in September 2019. I could not be with her, since I was far away. I remember working that day, preparing to teach at university - with less energy but more passion than ever. As a judge, she inspired me to seek a greater purpose in my career than amassing wealth: to enrich society with my work, be curious and supportive. Thank you inspiring moms! We love you, and we will never forget you. Pro tip: let your mom hear that, while she is still alive. Some people do not fully realize what they mean to the people around them.

10:24 I read somewhere that most of gold forms when two neutron stars collide and that only a fraction is created by Supernovae, am I wrong?
@pipertripp5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the current understanding. Kilonovae happen, me think, more often than previously thought and supernovae don't eject as much heavy material as thought. There were always suspicions about type II supernovae being able to eject as much matter as we observer in the universe. Kilonovae happen enough per galaxy to do the trick. It's a really interesting subject.

Those that encourage, assist and educate remain forever the supernovas of our lives - their light, such legacy, stretching out across time and space, never ending until time itself stops. Love, respect and thanks to all those that know how to be Star Stuff, and in this moment, in this watching of your video, to you and your mother. x

it would be cool for their to be an episode with more detail on how them most massive stars die, ie, those that collapse directly into a black hole without a supernova, and then pair-instability and photodisintegration supernovae

Kudos to our late mothers. To experience our human lifetimes is probably the greatest gift the universe could give us. It took a supernova and a mother to get the job done.
