The biggest risks MC and V now face is losing the debit portion of their business. 2%++ swipe fees to merchants, which funds reward points and miles to card holders, is an exorbitant charge to process a payment. Merchants are now pushing back with surcharges to pay with a card. Since people are not going to return to paying with cash, alternative systems like Zelle, CashPay, and even the prospect of digital currency will threaten to take away the non-credit (debit) transactions. Time will tell.

You’re wrong and you’re talking out of your Read MC/Visa shareholder reports. This will not be located on there. Also, the interchange/merchant discount rate is not 2% on debit. Its capped at a MUCH lower rate. For credit, yeah its about 2%. 🤡

From what I've heard, it costs stores more to accept MasterCard as compared to Visa, at least here in Europe. And if I think back some decades ago, I do think there were some places that took Visa but not Mastercard (maybe because of this cost reason, or maybe because they were not as well spread out at that time).

It’s typically the opposite in Canada, MasterCard has semi-exclusivity deals with Costco and No Frills, and their interchange fees are typically marginally lower than Visa. The biggest threat to Visa and MasterCard in Canada though is actually Interac.

In Canada, in 2022, it seems most card companies switched to Mastercard. Especially the fintech.
@theintrovertadventurer9640 Жыл бұрын
I think that’s because most are issued by the same bank (Peoples Trust). If the issuer switches, all underlying fintech have to follow suit.

I was focusing to use on VISA because i thought it was more successful than mc and more easily used abroad.

I've never had the choice to choose if my card would be Visa or MasterCard. My bank would just issue whatever they had. I had no say in the matter.

Alot of countries trying to get rid of Visa and Mastercard, altho not completely. Other countries basically send $$ to US for Visa MA processing fees.

Can't deny the fact that *VRI TOKEN* is the strongest bet to bring power back to this industry after we suffered FTX, Celsius, Tera and so on. Sure if they fail it's done for good, but I don't see that the biggest tech company in the world would put everything at risk just for that.

I dunno… I was one of those people that didn’t care about a credit score, didn’t get any education about how important your credit score is, and I racked up debt like an idiot. I worked really hard and educated myself and I’ve brought my credit score from 480 to 732 and I’m still going up with *VRI TOKEN* . I feel like the government blaming credit reporting companies instead of the lack of financial education in their own public education system is foolish.

Only use Apple Pay these days. Took many years for it to be accepted most everywhere. But I think the pandemic accelerated that. Four years ago it was rare to find a place of business that would accept it. Now it's just a couple major retailers that are hold outs, Like Walmart. Kroger recently caved in.

Your cards stored within Apple Pay are most likely still using the Mastercard or Visa network.

@@Entertainment- it's hilarious. They think they're getting around the giants.... Lol.... Instead of trying to outsmart visa and mastercard you'd think they'd just own the stock. They take the video as a challenge for some reason. People are weird. They see a profitable company and rather than buy it they complain and try to get around it and fail.
@Entertainment- Жыл бұрын
@@aymanpatel5862 No, the Apple Card does. Any other card you use within Apple Pay uses their respective card network.

for some sort of scale context, think of the biggest banks. Visa and Mastercard are bigger than those like a blue whale compared to an orca. WIthout MC, Visa, Amex, China UnionPay, etc, the banks have to have direct contact with all other banks, and to reconcile all transactions by themselves. I am not aware of any bank in such a position, at least Europe-wise.
@tacidara8758 Жыл бұрын
For the most time of this year if you would invest into anything it is not doing very well I mean that's pretty obvious. But the launch of *VRI TOKEN* plays a different game and it is less affected by such moves as the utility is simply too strong. Just my bet

China has Union Pay.... so many countries in Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa have various other such companies. Only in the West does Visa, MasterCard and other American companies have the largest market share.

Even Maestro Debit cards were famous before 2017. Now Visa Dominates Indian market by huge margin. Rupay is catching up faster especially after UPI with credit card option.

Looks like a lot of comments complaining about merchant charges by MC . They should seriously consider India's UPI system where there is no MDR for bank to merchant transactions. Even if cards are used on UPI there are no charges most of the time.
