Thank you for the compliment. It started with a basic plan that has evolved over the past 3yrs with some tweaks that have been a joy to be a part of. This video was a year ago and it's amazing how the ecosystem changes literally every day. Please keep in tune as I share my journey of both the ups and downs.

No way my HOA would allow me to design a front yard that looks like yours. Have to be content with designing a backyard food forest. Wish I could have chickens.

You have lively front and lovely front yard. Your neighbors got some lesson to learn from.

Fellow Southwest gardener here! Microclimates are one of the most important things for us to learn. I'm at high altitude, so I rely on them to ensure the long-term survival of my fig trees, extend the growing season for annuals, and give me an occasional harvest of gourmet mushrooms in humid weather.

Great video! I was wondering about this topic recently and how the same microclimate that keeps plants cool in the summer may protect some of the sensitive plants from freezes in the winter.

Greetings from the LooseNatural farm in Andalusia Spain where we currently live through a drought. Your plants serve you well. Congratulations.

Nice looking yard. Any chance I could buy some oldhammi bamboo from you? This is a variety I want to plant Either that or we can do some trades
@sweetmandolynsurbanfarm71883 жыл бұрын
I get mine from www.greenlifebyshamusoleary.com/ and just got some black bamboo there for my pond yesterday. I tried propagating some from the one I planted 2yrs ago and it wasn't easy to get enough roots and was unsuccessful. May need more time to get shoots but my rootball is deep on this clumping variety.

Beautiful food forest. Wish I was brave enough to do that to my front yard, but I went all in for the backyard. I love to see it!!!!

That is absolutely incredible! And it is the most stark example of how different things can be right there in the same neighborhood you have completely different microclimates, I’m curious, how much does it cost you in water? I know you have things designed for shade which helps, but still it looks like you’re living in hell with all that rock around you.

Getting things established my water bill is quite high in hotter months but I'm in the process of setting up a system of harvesting rainwater and with deep mulch it reduces evaporation and feeds the soil. For what I'm creating it's a price I'm willing to pay. I was told I'm paying the price of a family of 5 and there's only 3 of us and I'm starting a food forest that will feed us nutrient dense food for many many years.

Incredible what you've done in such an environment. I started my food forest last year (Victorian Pyrenees) and find yours inspiring. Everything spaced out well, yet no wasted space and the plants and trees look so healthy. Shows what hard work and a bit of time can do. You've just earnt a subscriber; look forward to the rest of your videos

Do you have to protect your tropicals in the winter? PS. Everything looks amazing!!
@sweetmandolynsurbanfarm71882 жыл бұрын
Thank you. No I do nothing to protect them. By designing a system of tropicals under trees and next to my warm house with dense companion planting and deep mulch along with proper hydration on the nights below freezing I've had survival of the fittest. I also planted my jamaican cherry and my royal Poinciana in the south facing front close to asphalt to get all day sun in winter to warm back up quickly.

Thanks for this inspiring video. I live in Tucson and would like to do something similar. Is there a nursery in Phoenix that has these exotic trees?

Not yet still too young. Hopefully next year. It's my favorite tree in my yard. Duke is a real specimen. Duke will have red flowers and I also have a rare yellow one opposite side of grass.🤠
