I don't understand it either. I think some of them think that "trans" and gay are the same in most ways, so saying anything critical of anything related to "trans" means we're homophobic bigots. And they won't listen because the left has deplatformed the subject - they would have to go to a right-leaning KZbin channel to listen to a detransitioner's story, and my friends on the left won't do that. I had a friend who wouldn't listen to anything on Genspect specifically because they looked Genspect up and someone somewhere said they're "anti-trans". Trans activists have masterfully employed thought-stopping and discussion-stopping social influence.

I work in property & casualty insurance…I care. I think much of society is distracted by the myriad of other issues going on in the world. They haven’t gone down the rabbit hole like many of us have. My best friend is gay, when I spoke to him the other day about what’s going on in the Trans community, he was completely unaware of the level of harm this entire ideology has had on children, women & girls, and society as a whole. The media does its best to cover up all of the dark and dirty truths of this ideology. Majority of people still depend on the mainstream media to get all of their “news.” I have a feeling most won’t know the grim details and atrocities of this movement until years down the road…after it’s been dismantled and enough time has passed for someone to make a documentary that ends up on Netflix or some other streaming service 🙄 Just like so many other stories that the public was largely ignorant to.

Americans in general have been heavily medicated for the longest time now, at least for 40 years. For 15 years I lived in Florida in a county where literally everyone was popping pills, I have worked with people who were arrested for illegal possession with intent to use of prescription drugs, meth, and what have you. Then we have Ritalin which was being prescribed to every other kid back in the 1990's. Don't forget Prozac and related meds. All of these sex hormones being pumped into the bodies of children and adults is, if you will, the "icing on the cake" for medicalization.

Thank you very much Genspect and Mia - a very, very good lecture that clarifies matters very well. Dr Levine's point that we need to use "current" diagnosis is spot on and it is THIS very point that is so often missed - the current situation/diagnosis/feelings may well be gone in a space of time WITHOUT the sufferer being butchered and cross-sex medicalised. As an example, my daughter was traumatised as a child and then again as a teenager. She questioned her sexuality and thankfully that didn't stretch to her gender beyond questioning "asexual" for a short time. My similar age and experience stepdaughter has declared she is bisexual and now nonbinary. Both of them are in social groups that are filled with "traumatised" "nonbinary" "queer" "gender questioning" people. We have taken the stance that we won't do the they/them nor will we support any steps towards transition should that be the escalation. My daughter appears to be moving towards a more "normal" approach to herself in that she wants a baby, is most likely lesbian and is very happy being fully identified as a very obvious woman. My stepdaughter is still caught up in the contagion effects of her social support network...hopefully she too will move through it and go back to being a bisexual woman rather than seeing herself (in my view) as an "it"...(we do wonder if this is an additional manifestation of some attention seeking but that's another story...) Keep up the good work everyone!

Seeing ones self as an "it" is very common in response to enduring a traumatic event. Exposure to the highly destabilizing concept that it's possible to change ones sex, during childhood, a time of huge biological change, can certainly cause one to disassociate from themselves, making them even more vulnerable to experience depression and anxiety and engage in high risk behavior than they already are.

I understand the worry about overdiagnosis of psychological conditions and agree fully. It is however important to remember that autism is not a psychological condition and has a variety of neuro-physical symptoms more in line with neuro-degenerative conditions. It only comes with behavioral effects because it effects the whole nervous system. We don't look at dementia and MS as psychological disorders eventhough they come with cognitive symptoms. Autism, like MS and dementia, is much harder to mis-diagnose. The question we should be asking about autism is not "are we overdiagnosing" (excluding tictoc self-diagnosis of course), but rather why are the case numbers increasing so sharply.

Problem with ASD as a diagnosis, is that the term is so broad it means almost nothing. My boyfriend is diagnosed with ASD, but he is an intelligent, perfectly adjusted man who holds a leadership position in engineering. It makes absolutely no sense that someone who is not verbal and will not be able to survive independently has the same condition as my boyfriend. Diagnosis has been rendered meaningless.

I have been following Sasha and Stella for over two years now and have a daughter in medical school in Canada. I worry, given the intractability of the Canadian capture, for my daughter going through a system that affirms only. She knows my thoughts on this whole topic (doesn’t quite understand why it’s a hill I’d die on though, given all the “worse” issues we have in the world) but is caught up in a system that would cancel her if she spoke out like Mia just did. She has some “trans” classmates and colleagues and so doesn’t want to rock the boat. I only hope by the time she graduates (3 1/2 years) the world has gained some sanity - common sense as our current conservative politicians posit. For that common sense, I have voted right for the first time in my life, and I truly hope the tides are shifting…

In his book _The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat_ , Oliver Sacks describes the case of a man with a brain lesion causing him to feel that one arm was not really part of his body. Medical science knew no way of fixing his brain, but did know how to remove the alien feeling arm. After he eventually got approval for the surgery, his psychologist still worried that afterward he would feel mutilated, but it was just the opposite. He felt an enormous sense of relief. His condition wasn't delusional, as he knew perfectly well what the physical reality was. It just didn't feel right to him and so he wanted this incongruence corrected. It's no different with transgenderism. The condition is empirically definable and mechanistically plausible, and so it's completely invalid to dismiss it _a priori_ as "rubbish." Some young and not so young people may be misdiagnosing themselves, but this just means a careful and thorough evaluation by a psychological professional is required before any medical procedures are prescribed (and they should be liable if they get it wrong because they failed to perform one). "There's no such thing as a transgender child" is a religious statement, not a scientific one.

It's true that the first doesn't imply the second, but that doesn't mean the second is never true. As far as coming up with a good label for kids who are going through this sort of thing, where the label "trans kids" makes it sound like a cool group to join with a quick and easy phonetic name, is not simple at all. So how about "Ex-Kids"? Or "X-Kids"? Kid-Sugi, like a variation on Kintsugi process? When you've been a survivor of a complex childhood or prolonged complex trauma in early childhood, you're no longer a mere child, you are something else. Expounding that with the X-Men is no more egregious than Stephen King suggesting that the same brutality gives them psychic powers called The Shine in his fictional canon.

@@Margatatials As a retired child care director, I look back at the children I cared for who were 'diagnosed' with ADHD and prescribed Ritalin (=a kind of speed!) I had to dish out their Ritalin, then noticed at mealtimes non of these kids were hungry and acted out during that time. I started to research, Ritalin suppresses appetite, right, I found one answer. Then I studied various approaches of activities and how to tap into their intelligence and area of interests. And I asked the kids themselves about solutions, and worked together with that. And work with the parents. It became an interesting time of not needing any Ritalin and delving into the wonderful world of very gifted children. No need to medicalise.

Looking back I can now see how we were trying to heal ourselves. Cannabis has always been my healer and even more so now in my old age. Problem with naming this issue for our dear children. In Canada, one can be sent to prison for a life sentence if you misgender a person. This is a major problem, I believe in telling the truth thus will not use their names for this or that. But there is a very real legal risk.

Having done immense amounts of research into both the DSM and ICD the latest versions with text revision and having worked with thousands of people presenting with a variety of cognitive distortions in self-reporting self-states, I went from seeing the issue as transsexuality to gender dysphoria to the sexual incongruence to cerebro-somatic disparity disorder!!! But ultimately what I have come to the realization of is that the same .003% of incredibly self-destructive people who would report themselves as being trans are also much more accurately diagnosed with having a personality disorder with a primary focus on fear of abandonment / engulfment. What the DSM-5 text revision one calls a borderline personality disorder. There's absolutely no difference whatsoever. The ironic thing is you can also establish congruence between gender dysphoria, borderline personality disorder, and the Jungian archetype INFJ.

Most of the laws restricting medical or surgical interventions for trans minors, explicitly allow for childhood sterilization and many of them even encourage sterilizing children. Intersex people are exempted from the restrictions and sterilizing intersex children is encouraged in place lie for example in the USA state of Iowa they almost passed a law defining intersex as s disability which encourages sex reassignment surgeries on babies and children. So it’s kind of bizarre that if you believe that it is wrong to sterilize children , then why are you supporting a movement that encourages such sterilizations

No one is encouraging sterilizations. When babies with DSD conditions have surgery on genitals it's to save their lives. And it's incredibly rare. And in those cases they're likely never going to be fertile. The vast majority of DSD conditions are restricted to one sx or another and ppl don't find out until later often when they find out they can't have kids. It's also just a daft argument. If you think purposefully sterilizing children is wrong then well done. That's just one of the reasons ppl don't like "affirmative care". Provide even one example of someone arguing for the sterilization of children. Oh, you can't because they're all on the "affirmative care" side. How about you try a good faith argument next time?

Mia Hughes disregards and dismisses those who benefit. Hughes admits her scrutiny and criticism can be rolled out and used against SSRI's, vaccines, birth control, autism diagnosis, gastric bypass, etc. There already are procedures and protections in place which include oversight of medical boards and lawsuits for malpractice. Mia Hughes raises such concerns and is a keynote speaker without ever seeing patients with such disorders or ever studying them at Med School. Mia Hughes is the charlatan of conspiracies and is fascinated by scandals.

Before that she was a submissive trad-wife. You think lay people who are fascinated by creating scandal with exaggerations should be in charge of medicine over medical boards. Anyone can site a negative reaction to a vaccine in an attempt to get it banned without fully realizing and downplaying the epidemic that would be created if we didn't have it. Many think Covid and the Sandy Hook shootings were a farce. This is scary because you have the same vote as I do and you'll use your representative to make my medicine illegal whether I've benefitted or not and with little input from actual patients. If this moves forward and we go on to ban SSRI's, Adderall, birth control, vaccines, vasectomies, tubal ligation, gastric bypass categorically in addition to gender medicine, then we are better off splitting the rule of the country or using physical engagement. It's patient's physical, mental, and reproductive health on the line and the mood I'm feeling is very similar to the threat of being drafted or being groped.

The report is hosted on the website of Environmental Progress as an analysis by Mia Hughes, where the screenshots are preceded by over 35,000 words of what can only be politely described as an editorial rant from Shellenberger. Overcome by an inflated sense of self-importance, the report terms itself a “groundbreaking medical scandal”. Perusing through the report makes it clear that there is no “scandal” - the actual screenshots are medical professions discussing edge cases in gender-affirming healthcare concerning fertility, libido, and fatality risks - as is common in ALL fields of medicine. That is precisely why it needs to be preceded by 35,000+ words of inflammatory commentary by Shellenberger - without it, the screenshots are just normal risk-assessment conversations between doctors that is not unique to gender-affirming healthcare. No actual media expose, debunk, or whistleblower report that follows the ethical standards of journalism presents a 35,000+ word opinion piece to the reader prior to presenting even its most preliminary evidence. It is at best, a vicious thought dump with an intention to provoke. Journalist Erin Reed performed a thorough fact check of the document, and found 216 instances of “factual inaccuracies, erroneous citations, misinterpretations of what is leaked, and purposeful omissions contradicting the author’s central editorialized claims.” These inaccuracies include citing and evaluating decade old papers that have since been disproven, and quotes from a global “Beyond WPATH petition” that Shellenberger claims is proof that this leak has “sent shockwaves through the medical profession.” Upon closer look, this freely available online “petition”, has only 2,754 signatures, some from yoga instructors, DJs, and “concerned parents”. For statistical context, there are over 130,000 medical professionals just in Australia. While signing this petition does not require professional accreditation, joining the WPATH does mandate professional standards.
