i think a possible way to do an end update would be mostly terrain generation focused: steeper hills, large valleys, still keeping to sorta abyssal, wasteland feel the end has, but adding some verticality and variation to the terrain Maybe adding a sort of moss would help break the terrain up a bit, but anything more may be too much a new skybox, and maybe some particles, would also help, while still maintaining this cold, desolate feel a lot of people want a massive end update, biomes, mobs etc, like what mods do... so why not just play the mods? adding all those features wouldnt really add to the end, and would more than likely take away from the feel it has. people use the nether as an argument to justify a mega end update; "the nether was a wasteland but now has biomes etc etc" The nether is a primal world, full of danger, and alien life which we dont see in the overworld. thats why it has biomes, theyre fungal, or dangerous, full of lava and stone. The end doesnt need that, its meant to be the final dimension, the boss fight. having loads of biomes takes away from what its meant to be at its core. also, on the building side of things, backpacks seem most likely out of the ideas you came up with, and making it craftable with bundles would be cool, as if you are expanding the bundle using leather and iron, an Instant Pickup could be an enchantment for tools, and really would get good use in-game something that could be useful would be a grapple, it would be similar to the lashing potato from the april fools (which contains a lot of potentially experimental tests) it would allow players to get higher up their builds without an elytra, and you could even upgrade it based on what ore you use to craft its hook with (grapple is an unlikely feature to be added, but has a good premise, and reason to be used)

So, I have some thoughts, and some clarifications how Mojang decides what to add (it's a bit of an interest of mine): 1. Starting off, the instant pickup is actually something I could see them add. 2. Over the years I've picked up that Mojang is not fond of "simple concept, complicated mechanism" solutions, such as a sort function. They'd much rather add a tool to make dealing with the problem easier, but one they player needs to figure out for themselves (like for example the recently added Crafter) 3. afaik, Mojang's answer is a straight-up "*NO*" for opening shulkers in the inventory (or inventory-expanding items in general). Iirc, a dev once said that having to place a shulker box down is a core part of thier design, as it makes them less of a "inventory expander", and more "mobile storage"; the difference is subtle, but in nonetheless exists. 4. See above. And to say even further, adding more slots is just a band-aid solution, which _will_ slowly accumulate into shallow bloat. 5. This is a pure solution item, introducing nothing to incite creativity, one of Mojang's main design pillars. 6. as you acknowledge yourself, this item breaks a core principle of Minecraft. And yet again, without any actual depth to back up breaking a rule. I apologize in advance for the unenthusiasm of my comment, however I do not believe these additions would contribute to Mojang's main goal with the game (nor do I think Mojang themselves would believe so). My main point being: these suggestions are just conviniences to avoid limitations. And just as limitations are often not only good, but activelly part of the fun and creativity, convinience applied everywhere has a tendency to greatly diminish those. (not saying convinience is bad, but "fixing" everything with convinience leads to very poor game design)

I think more than scale, the issue with Minecraft building projects is more about the expectation of lots of detail, due to the huge amounts of new blocks and items being added. In a game like Terraria, building with detail is fun at small/medium scales due to the fact that you can see every element you're placing at it's intended viewing angle in real-time. In Minecraft, building with detail quickly becomes tedious due to constantly having to scoot back just to look at a little piece of it, and the fact that most items can't really be crafted on the spot due to either their rarity or their needed quantity. For example in Terraria, you need a small crafting area with only 3 or 4 workstations and then you can craft almost any type of decorative item just from some iron and your chosen wood/stone types. In Minecraft however, detail blocks are often in the form of weird items like fences, vines, flowers, glass, lightning rods, iron bars, amethyst buds, redstone components, and much more, leaving a lot of required inventory space to carry all of those items. Scale is it's own issue I think, and realistically *should* take a long time and multiple resource gathering trips to complete, but detail is so expected of late-game players these days that it exacerbates the time spent massively.

For the instant pickup idea, it could be a beacon effect, maybe you have to choose between that and the regeneration effect. Things I would like to see: Crab claw - We got the swamp vote features even though it lost, so its likely we could see the crab be added. The claw could give between 1-2 extra blocks of reach and could possibly extend the pickup range, meaning we don't need the instant pickup idea. Cutter - Replacing the stone cutter, the cutter does the exact same thing as the stone cutter but for every block with variants, could also be used to make doors, buttons, pressure plates, fences, fence gates and trap doors. Maybe things like doors use 2 blocks instead of one. It would also make copper items cheaper. To balance this, the crafting recipe could use a diamond instead of an iron ingot. Iron doors and trapdoors wouldn't be able to be made using this. Block variants - Stone types and other block types are missing certain variants like the pillar or chiselled variants, let's have each type have every variant Rotator - Basically survival debug stick, makes life easier when you misplace any block that can be placed in multiple ways, it could have durability to not make it overpowered, could even make it an ability of the crab claw Glue - Place on the side or top of a block, and it stops falling blocks placed on it from falling. It would be made from slime, but if you break the falling block or the blocks it's attached to it won't drop the glue Chest variants - Every other wood block has its type specific variants, why not chests. Maybe the current chest texture could be exclusive to structures and renamed to loot chests, and wouldn't update existing ones for those who like the current texture Sleeping bag - A bed that doesn't set your spawn, perfect when you're away from your bed Placeable items - This would make decorating even better. This could also just be limited to food I would include vertical slabs, sideways stairs, and furniture, but it's been said many times that it won't ever be added which is fine, there's always mods for that

If you ask me there's a somewhat smaller list of things I feel are more important though I do agree that a lot of what you said is very much so accurate with my specific list of the absolute most NEED updates in order are; - make new Mobs aside from Enderman and Creepers that cause a regression in progress but in a way that doesn't feel overly destructive and or honestly more importantly adding methods that allow for quicker rebuilding if serious damage occurs so while you can be hard regressed back, that regression can be fixed after it's been made the first time with things like schematica for example if I remember the mod's name correctly which basically allows you to create a light image of the building you want and then just with any block out click on any of the blueprint blocks and it will automatically place the correct one that matches the blueprint where it's supposed to be and how it's supposed to be with what could be done is add more zombies that have pickaxes and axes or make enemies that can go into your base looking for a loot to steal or make it so there are creatures that use bombs and set traps around your base with honestly one of the best mobs I could think to make for this would be a variety of different Goblin types as well as also maybe Cobalts for the stealing shit portion. - the second most absolute need update there should be honestly in tandem with the first one above this is to add a lot more bosses and Dungeons and areas to explore and gear to gather that then can improve your combat ability further with honestly ratdoctors servers combat mods are probably the best example of how to make Minecraft combat feel less static and more fluid and fine and flowing constantly and less about making yourself virtually Immortal and more about finding items to improve your speed or give you interesting advantages in the fight but still becoming rather durable and less than likely to die but ultimately the main points being to drastically improve your speed and the skills ceiling one can reach - the last thing that's desperately needed but only just behind those two in my opinion is adding more flushed out biomes and creatures with the first thing being to go over everything that already exists and replacing an updating it was there a plenty of mods out there that actually give very Lively animations to creatures with one of the best examples of an updated creature I can remember being the Villager where they actually get animated facial expressions that look like the old element zero animations was basically then creating a whole list of new Mobs with each offering different unique things with for example maybe making pork heal you and Grant you an extra one-off restoration effect with carrots good night vision and potatoes could Grant nourishment and there could even be more interesting and unique Buffs granted like rabbit meat granting you swiftness or state granting you resistance and with every new creature added more types of for example leather that can grant you access to different armor types and making it so it's not just a linear diamond and then netherite is the best of the best of the best armors and there is nothing other than them to use with instead of making it so you could use leather armor because it grants you bonus movement speed and an extra double jump or you could use rabbit armor because it grants you triple jump as well as also a dash but you lose out on a lot of Defense or you could go with wool armor which could actually make you resistant to fall damage perhaps with a combination of requiring feathers to make it as well as well as perhaps could even Grant resistance to cold as magic could be added as plenty of people don't just love magic mods but pretty much don't play without them

All in all for me what I feel is most needed is just an update to a lot of the bass mechanics with funnily enough it's not only merging that has this problem but also has another example that will be easier for people to understand, from software games with Elden ring being the best example still use the same combat animations for the player that have been used since Demon Souls and that's not all with there's also the issues of the magic being the exact same as well with the only difference being now that there's FP with the system for casting sorcery especially on PC while not using a controller being ridiculously old and clunky and not at all even remotely close to a half decent system and on top of that everything for the play remains heavily underpowered and quite frankly, boring beyond what from soft have shown their capable of with sekiro........

I know you already added a rebuttal about game progression, but... I absolutely hate this sentiment with every fiber of my being! Minecraft doesn't, even in the slightest, have a hard coded progression. The "progression" of minecraft is just the natural ways people go about things (i.e. get shelter, establish a food source, develop technology, etc.). There is an "end goal" in the ender dragon, but it doesnt really exist as a piece of a progression, as you can defeat it at any time. Adding a true progression would only be a handicap, so therefore it is something that should never be worked on. the game should always always always be sandbox before it is survival.

I've been using tr7zw / Lizard of Oz's ItemSwapper mod (based on Xisumavoid's 'inventory update' concept) for a while now, and oh my god. It's such a massive improvement. If you aren't familiar, the basic concept is that it adds a new hotkey (R by default) which opens a palette swapper when held. The palette swapper is a small GUI that appears above the active hotbar slot, with a list of items you can swap to by simply hovering over them and releasing the hotkey. These items are determined by the 'palette' which the currently equipped item or block belongs to, so if you're holding planks, you can switch to stairs, slabs, fences, in the same wood color, if you're holding a shulker you can switch to other shulkers, and if you're holding tools you can switch to other tools, for example. I believe which blocks belong to which palettes is customizable via resource packs, which is pretty awesome. If you press the swap button on an empty hand, the palette is simply your current inventory. You can of course hover over any item and release the hotkey and it will function as normal, but if you click a shulker, the palette becomes its contents, allowing you to quickly access any item inside. And of course, the most important quality of life change, that I frankly can't believe Mojang hasn't added, is that the 'pick block' hotkey can pull from shulker boxes too. I cannot overstate how awesome this mod is for building - it dramatically upgrades the inventory management for both creative and survival. In my opinion using it is even smoother than using saved hotbars in creative!

However, it gives more meaning to a prolonged gameplay when you have distant goals like that.

Honestly, a storage overhaul is the single biggest thing I've been missing. Storage quickly becomes an absolute mess in any base and it gets worse with the more items you have. There's always a battle of storing it all whilst trying to arrange it in a way that you're not having to run around looking for it. Then, when you come back with more items to store you have run around your massive storage area putting it all away. I've built and used sorting systems but, not only are they not reliable enough, they also require so many items to be kept within the hoppers that it makes them painful to make.

Last item would make Allays and Mason villagers actually useful. Just change the direct copy-paste mechanic to a blueprint item that registers the 5x5x5 area and then follow the next steps: 1. Find a Mason villager with at least Journeyman rank and 20 Popularity (also no Raid in progress). 2. In a special "Contract" slot put the blueprint; a 12 emeralds pricetag slot appears. After paying the emeralds, he gives you back the blueprint and now follows you (only one "stand-by" contract at a time allowed). 3. Go to the desired construction site and leave closely a chest with the blocks registered in the blueprint and an Allay. 4. Right-click the blueprint on top of a block as the center of the base. That will stablish the area for the Mason to construct; unless...: a. The bottom layer is inaccessible by just walking. b. There is an overlap (a current block is placed where a blueprint block is marked to be; water/lava flows and most decoration blocks like torches also count). c. It's less than one (in-game) hour left for night time. 5. As the contract goes from "stand-by" to "in progress" and the Mason starts to work, he requests the Allay for the blocks to fill his inventory while building each horizontal layer from bottom to top. But he cancels the contract (drops the given blocks and leaves) if...: - He is obstructed for half an hour (30s) or doesn't receive the neccessary blocks to complete a layer in the same time. - Night falls and there is no bed nearby to pause the construction until next morning. - Got scared and hit by zombies/illagers. - He lost 1/4 of his HP during construction or healthbar drops to less than 50%HP. - Popularity drops to

One of my friends never makes a solid base and never uses anything more than shacks and temporary storage. The "endgame" of Minecraft looks so different for so many people that it's not possible to fix everything for everyone without breaking it for someone else.

@@LyricAndCompany This is definetely true, I don't really know for sure how the vast majority of players play the game and I am making a lot of assumptions about "the average player" and how they play specifically survival Minecraft. But I still think a lot of the complaints In this video if addressed would still make a lot of people happy even if Im off about what the average player wants or does. If they updated the building and or inventory the only balance I could see being disturbed pretty hard would be for PVP players, but servers already have ways to manage changes like that so I think an update would still make a lot of people happy, but of course you cant please everyone.

I think they should give shulker boxes the bundle functionality where you can scroll for items to grab out in the inventory

I think updating the end is unlikely since a large portion of the playerbase never goes there. I also love building there and living there, but I know I'm not in the majority. I also don't really feel the need for more stuff there. A mostly empty void is part of the appeal for me.

My idea for the backpack is that it’s a second inventory that you can access on top of your normal inventory. And it can also provide 2 more slots to your hot bar through the pockets on the back pack. And those pockets could be swapped out for some workstations, like having a crafting table or furnace accessible from your inventory. It would be a cool addition and would make both building and exploring much more fun

I think the final item could work (as a vanilla appropriate item) with a simple change: It places down a transparent blueprint with shift-clicks. You then, when looking at a transparent blueprint can right click to place that block from a stack in your inventory into that spot. Effectively, you still are breaking/placing one block at a time, but the tool handles what block (and what direction that block is in) that gets placed.

Some of these things are 100% my favorite mods to get for servers with friends, and it would be neat if they were implemented to the vanilla game (especially backpacks, I've been so spoiled). For those who are interested, there's a mod called "Schematicannon"(?) which does copy/print builds. I tend to build them in creative worlds then make a schematic and print them in the survival world (you still have to gather all the materials yourself)

I think it would be really neat if there was a type of chest that works across different saves. Although it would have limits. It only has a single chest worth of space or smaller, it is extremely late game (kinda like the quantum chest idea) and it cannot work between gamemodes. Meaning that no, you cannot grab diamonds off of creative mode, throw it into the chest, and expect to be able to take those dianonds to a hardcore world. And it would not work on servers or realms either. Although it would work on singleplayer saves with your friends joined in too. The chest would save to your account (or a new character file instead would work too) rather than the world.

I really like the instant pickup feature. Instant pickup would make building sky bases in survival way less painful. I recently broke down an old XP farm to move it to a new location a couple days ago and I was grumbling to myself every time a block fell into the water below instead of being added to my inventory. Something else I'd like to see in this same vein is something to make building the underside of floating structures easier. Floating islands are super cool but are an incredible pain to build in survival. We also need a tool for rotating blocks that have different orientations without having to use a supporting block or break/replace them over and over. I agree with instant organization, I use a mod for it now but it really should be in vanilla. I think that being able to look into your shulker boxes without placing them is great (I use a mod for this too), but I also think that placing them down is kind of the point and not having to place them down messes with that. I really don't mind sorting through my shulkers. One thing that they should do though is that when you mouse over shulkers, a small simplified list of its contents should appear over it like a name tag. That way if you have a large amount of shulkers in the same color, you can distinguish the correct one you're looking for instead of opening every shulker to find the right one. I'm not big on backpacks. Shulkers already exist, and frankly if anything they should just increase the default inventory size by an extra row. As for the Quantum Synthesizer, I'm perfectly happy to just use Litematica. There are some features where I think "well I shouldn't _have_ to download a mod for this," but copy/pasting builds in survival feels very unlike vanilla Minecraft and Litematica does its job better than whatever way Mojang would implement a similar system. Also, bundles really deserve respect. They weren't built to be backpacks and then fail at being that. They were added to address a smaller problem with inventory management, your inventory becoming quickly filled up by tiny stacks of junk items like flowers, seeds, and mob drops whenever you leave your base for a few minutes - and bundles excel at this. I always carry a couple while I'm mining or caving so that I can declutter my inventory of mob drops, stone variants, dirt, and gravel so that I can have more space for ore and treasure.

The issue with opening shulker boxes directly from inventory I feel is with combat. Items like potion and totems are limited in power by costing so much inventory space (since they don't stack, one use costs an entire inventory slot). Being able to easily multiply your inventory space would be EXTREMELY powerful with these items

I personally use the bundles in the early game, after the shulker box I leave them aside but I think a great change and quality of life update would be to be able to store non-stakeables objects, It would still be useful in the early game since I am one of those who keeps 5 picks in the inventory when mining, and also in the end game, for obvious reasons
@Wickertop18 күн бұрын
I've been saying for a while now that Minecraft needs accessory slots for equipment - like three extra slots. The inventory screen has the space, and it gives so much room for changing existing items and adding new ones to fit the system. The Elytra could be an accessory, Totems, the crab claw, a new backpack item, maybe even rings we craft out of precious materials and enchant with various effects... There are tons of potential uses, and it gives a lot more reward and goal-oriented play, while freeing up equipment enchants and slots already locked off by the limited slots we use now.

I think the beauty of MC is in the mods. You can literally add all these things with mods. Vanilla is just like, the first step--the gateway drug into adding mods and tailoring the game to each specific players wants and needs. As Mojang updates the game they're always thinking about that.
@A_Wise_Duckie242 ай бұрын
10:15 for the last suggestion of the quantum synthesizer i think it would make more sense in terms of the core gameplay of minecraft, to instead have it be similar to a schematic mod where it saves the rotation, and relative position of the blocks and when you right click with the type of block it will place it into the correct orientation instead. I also think adding something like a wrench from many other mods which would allow you to easily change the orientation of blocks which would be very beneficial to gameplay all the way from early-mid game to late/end game while not breaking the core idea of minecraft in my opinion
@TheolisАй бұрын
Honestly, I really want the create mod gun to be vanilla minecraft. I'd even settle for it being a creative tool only, but would be really nice in survival if they had a way of balancing it.

One of the other big issues is that many builders such as myself 100% do not care for the "adventuring"/"combat" parts of minecraft.. if stuff like that was "locked" behind dungeons/rare structures id simply never get them or cheat to have them.. I already never use the totem of undying bc getting it is too tedious
@GDO9099Ай бұрын
It’s only 2 weeks if you try to do stuff fast, no shit that getting all the big stuff done makes it boring faster
@tagtart117 күн бұрын
I like a lot of these suggestions, but I think the problem with survival Minecraft goes a lot deeper There are just SO many things within the game that we all think are "normal" and "fun" but absolutely hurt the game forcing us to get bored within a week. For example, any average player in Survival can get diamond gear, venture the nether, kill the ender dragon, get OP loot from the end city treasure, and fly hacks from Elytra within 48 hours of the world you start with your friends. Sure, that journey is fun, but once again, it's short-lived dopamine. The game needs to rethink alot of its game design choices. Mending is one of the biggest culprits that causes a 2-week Minecraft phase. When you get mending on ALL your gear (which really isn't that difficult anymore, even with the swamp changes), the survival features become almost pointless. Diamond and netherite ores are useless because you don't need to craft new gear. Enchanting is futile because your gear never breaks so why would you enchant for newer stuff. On top of that, you find so much amazing loot in end cities that is useless because you have unbreakable gear. So, you get mending, and now adventuring in caves for awesome diamonds becomes pointless, and the sweet enchantment system is also useless? What kind of game design is that? Elytras also remove all other modes of travel such as horses, walking, ender pearling, and minecarts. Elytras would be a cool feature if they weren't so easy to obtain. My last complaint is the fortune enchantment. I mean, it literally makes you a billionaire in the game the moment you get; inflation skyrockets if you are playing with friends. Fortune should just have a chance to double the drops at each tier rather than raise the drop ceiling. I'm not a game designer, and I know there are many different ways to play Minecraft. One thing is for sure, though, that MANY people have the same scenario where their friends become OP in 2 days, don't feel like building, and then the server dies. It's because all the cool end-game stuff is not hard to achieve. So, in conclusion, my friends and I have made a custom mod pack and mod that addresses a lot of these issues, and our average Minecraft phase went from 2 weeks to about 8-12 weeks. The problem with Minecraft isn't content, its mainly the current game loop (yes I know it is a sandbox game but a lot of people see it as a linear progressing survival game)

The first few things you mention would be TRIVIALLY EASY to implement. The LOTR mod has pouches that can be opened from inventory, a system like that should have been used for the shulker boxes. And Hypixal Skyblock has the “item falls directly into your inventory” thing you mentioned as a tool enchantment. Both have many different auto sort features and so yes. They could do this tomorrow if they wanted to.

I also think armor trims should be usable on shulker boxes as well. Because the amount of dyes are too few for how many items/categories people use shulkers for (if they are doing endgame mega builds). This way you could mark your boxes more easily.

- The instant pickup should be a tool enchantment, called magnetism. - The survival struture block should be the Lute from Minecraft Legeds, that temporailly summons build alleys, and should not be craftable. -How would the quantum chest work with mulplayer players who don't like to share items? -We need an orginise button. - We should have a survival rotation wrench too, craftable with copper or iron.

I still do not know why Minecraft doesn't have a magnet. I mean that in the way you see in many mods of the game where the magnet sucks items towards you, instead of you having to pick up every single thing.
