I have noticed that first you must bring fearful people into a safe space where you let them vent a bit, and then you ask them to listen. They will interrupt often to trip on fear, and you must train them to be respectful enough to allow a conversational give and take. Once you have them quiet long enough to listen, they can drop their anger. It is difficult, as they will revert back often, but if you persist, they will eventually realize the calm they feel is superior to the fear and anger that they had gotten so used to. At that point they are amenable to shifting, and may even seek out your company to bring them peace. Embrace them, make them feel heard, and watch they grow as they are nurtured. It is my belief that we all prefer the more peaceful way of interacting, but we must first contain our anger. Then we can begin to drop the fear. Eventually the peace is a welcome space.
