I think I understand now what Memetobe is supposed to be. He's supposed to be a 16th-century era Ninja way before Musashi's era, their job is protecting Daimyos, or dealing with other Daimyos before they get a chance to kill your Daimyos.

Yeah I think so too. The only problem is they haven't shown what Motobe's real profession is. All we ever see him do is sit at the dojo or hanging out with the boys.

Ya know, when you first uploaded this chapter some time ago I couldn't wrap my head around how Motobe was able to get the drop on Yujiro. I thought: "The Ogre wouldn't have allowed anyone to do that to him. He would have rip their arms off, plucked their eyes out, and pulled their spine from their backs. Surely this was plot armor in the favor of Motobe." But, now it makes total sense: he prayed upon Yujiro's pride to cloud his better judgement. Yujiro's seemingly x-ray vision would have informed him of Motobe's smoke bomb before he could even use it. But he was blinded by his white hot rage. And this makes so much sense when you consider the type of warrior that Motobe is. He is a seasoned, analytical master of deception who knows how to read his opponent and always comes prepared. His victory was assured before he even left his house that morning. I bow my head to you, Master Motobe. And I tip my hat to you, Master LR Shion. Today you have truly helped me to better understand my favorite character in the Baki-verse. Sonkei.

I love the imagery used for Baki and Ogre that Musashi sees piles of gold and delicious food as far as the eye can see. The Ogre is a whole new species Musashi has never encountered though.

I like the development of Motobe this chapter. I think his ego is going to be his fall though, which is ironic because he's managed to pull all of the W's by exploiting everyone else's ego. Even right now, he was proud of his "victory" over the ogre, but Motobe is weaker than the Ogre and Musashi. It's not his place to say who can handle who. He understands the level of strength that he's seen and felt out of them, saying "you can't handle him" when you've never experience either of them in a serious fight is arrogant. I think he'll eventually get too comfortable in his planning and and get burned for it

@@mrdavisdance more like too playful & too curious / thing is as long as his life is not threatened, he almost never goes fully out, I don't think musashi sees getting knocked out as a loss, only if one is killed, a different mindset from a different era // Motobe wisely understanding that, did just enough to make Musashi curious enough to hold back enough for Motobe to trick him and knock him out but didn't go for the kill, as not to trigger Musashi's survival instincts & therefor winning that fight from a fighters perspective instead of a warriors perspective The same way he used Musashi's curiosity and playfullness against him, he also used the Ogre's anger to his advantage to lower the ogre's senses and focus and thus allowing Motobe to escape with just a smoke bomb If the Ogre was focused instead of in full rage, Motobe could not have escaped

And yet Motobe managed to suprise Yujiro with that explosion. A calm Yujiro would have easily predicted Motobe's moves but here Motobe made Yujiro go into complete rage. I don't think Yujiro had any sense of Art of war in this moment. He was just about to go primal on Motobe's ass.
