Thank you for finally explaining this . I bet most of us all wondered how this broke down . I definitely spend more on popcorn and soda at AMC now that I go more frequently . I remember ages ago when they had their original unlimited program like in 2000 or so I would get a kids pack almost every time I’d see a film .

Some people sign up for it like gym memberships and don't use it at all. Then there are people who go to the movies multiple times a week and since you are going for basically free, you are more likely to say once every few times, "I could probably get something from the concession stand" so the theater still makes more money from you than if you stayed home.

I'm one of AMC's least bankable customer. I see at minimum 5 movies a month (on their best screens), never buy snacks (bring my own), never pay for parking, and live in a radius of 8 miles from any of their theaters. Starting this month, I'm gonna see Miles Morales at least 3 times.👍

I swear I always wondered this. Thank you! I used to work for AMC but i left before this membership was a thing. People think I still work there because of how much I rave about A-List. Its such a great deal! I live in NY and I only do Dolby screens so for me going twice minimum for $25 makes it worth the price.

I'm in Canada and I have a Cineplex membership. $10 a month for 1 free general admission ticket and 2 discounted price general tickets at $10 each. If you want fancy seats, you pay top up but at discounted rate. A regular general admission ticket is about $13 in my city. Pretty easy to make this membership worth my money, and i do not buy concession.

I've had A-List ever since it came out. Before that, I had the, now infamous, MoviePass. As soon as A-List came out, it was time to say good-bye to MoviePass. Speaking of MoviePass, I just now noticed that you have new video up for them. 🙂

Great video. Here's a question: since A-List includes both IMAX and Dolby Cinema screens, any idea what arrangement AMC has with those outfits? I assume it's a similar imputed ticket price arrangement to the conventional screens, with an extra couple of bucks kicked to IMAX or Dolby respectively. Also worth noting that another way A-List makes money for AMC is encouraging subscribers to bring their non-subscriber friends to AMC screenings. I do go to a lot of movies solo, but on those occasions where I take my wife or a friend to the movies I'll pick AMC over another circuit, even a more convenient circuit, because my ticket is "free,"so they pick up the $20 for my wife's ticket.

In the UK, we have unlimited free movies with the subscription so you could watch them all day everyday and not spend a penny and it's only $18

Though that's only for standard 2D screenings. As far as I know for chains such as Odeon and Cineworld you have to pay an extra price to watch IMAX, Dolby, 4DX, etc.

I never really bought concessions, but all of sudden since I got Regal Unlimited, I started he buying popcorn and candy 😅 So I does work on me, but I also try to go to the movies once a week

I kind of expected something like this. I’ve known movie theatre mostly make money from candy/popcorn/drinks sales. I also assume the premium screens they usually get higher profit from that (but that’s an assumption). But just like any business who buys things in bulk and get discounts - you might get less per item but you get more overall.

You explained this much better previously John. The theaters and AMC have previously negotiated a price of $4-5 (that may no longer be the case and is no higher). So, if you see 4 movies or less, AMC makes a profit. If you see 5, they break even or start to lose. Like gym memberships they know the majority don’t go all the time. Because A-List is such a great value to consumers, just going twice is a win for movie goers (AMC makes a profit) and they don’t feel they have to go more to get their moneys worth. Yes, concessions is where theaters make their best profit, but before the pandemic, A-List itself was profitable.

They’re losing money on me. I typically sneak in my own snacks. Doritos, store bought popcorn. Hell sometimes I bring an entire pizza 🍕 😊😂😅

Some Questions? Does a list include fathom event screenings? And can i unsubscribe whenever i want without any hassle because i had to change my bank card to unsubscribe from regal.

it doesn't include fathom events but you can unsubscribe whenever you want. They don't let you re-join for six months though.

That makes alot of sense so AMC is probably losing a lot of money giving it to the studios in the summer time & the holidays but all of those other months during January to may the studios get to keep all that money they make from the subscription to themselves So in a strange way the AMC studios are getting their money back with the slow movie months & also at the snack bar

0.001% of people go to more than 12 movies a month. Also, with Regal you have to pay extra for 3D, imax, 4dx or any other special presentations. No extra charges for AMC folks. But I do like Regals plan too, They’re both good values.

But who watches more than 12 movies a month? Regal Unlimited charges a fee when you book tickets online and charges surcharge when you see a movie in a premium format. A-List is better because it has so much more perks.

I bring in entire burrito bowls or pizza to the theater. I give no fucks. Sometimes I buy the AMC mozzarella sticks because they’re fucking CRACK in a box but otherwise they hardly get money from me. I’m cheating the system
