Everyone forgets that Blade was one of the first Marvel movies, and nobody cared that he was black. At least, it wasn't the main attention, but when Black Panther came out, it was supposedly it was the first black superhero movie, and everyone went out in drones to see it only for that reason. Movies were always diverse it just wasn't the main focus.
@Jcg2nd7 ай бұрын
First Black panther, Captain Marvel only did well because of Infinity War/Endgame, being so for the connective tissue in all movies.
@EveryoneWhoUsesThisTV7 ай бұрын
Plus, Black Panther recycled the plot from Lion King, it wasn't a flop because it had decent writing, they stole their writing from an already popular source. Also, if you set your movie in Africa it makes sense to have a black cast because the majority of people in Africa are black. That isn't true of the western world. A mild amount of DEI + good writing can work, heavy handed DEI + preaching doesn't.... :)

It is easy to say "I´m a bipoc polyamorous non binary apache helicopter" None of those things mean crap but suddenly you have "identity" and a bustling community ready to welcome you and ready to destroy the world alongside you. He knew Han and the others had succeeded and celebrated and then they start taking out the Death Star again. I am a white man. I watched the 1st Black Panther and loved it. I don't try to "identify" to the cast, this whole idea is by itself ridiculous. I want to watch good story-telling, good acting, if need be with action packed coherent scenarios (given the contexts and Lore narratives), for my ENTERTAINMENT, not for my "identification", stop treating people as if we were on a shrink's couch when watching a movie! Who do they think we are, their Pavlov dogs, or human beings (I don't identify as a dog for that matter)?

Its why post modernist art looks like a drunk threw up on the pavement.

What's worse is when a woman says it's misogynistic as if she is speaking for the entire female world. She is NOT! I'd rather get a compliment either by a look of appreciation or words from a man than a fake "you're so pretty!" affirmation from another woman.

They take every semi half popular movie that worked with a black actor as proof and every movie that crashed and burned is because of 'superhero fatigue' It's like a blind man telling you that what you see as someone with normal sight is wrong. Black panther worked because it released at the height of marvel, the movie was okay and the character himself is good and recognizable. Litteraly nothing to do with identity.

Blackwashing real characters is an absolute audacity and should be legit pointed out as rewriting history. Depictions of Cleopatra, Atilla, Isaac Newton, Anne Boleyn and many more for better ESG score should not be allowed. I would love to see a reaction to Martin Luther King depicted as paraplegic non-binary Asian.
@notiowegian6 ай бұрын
Making biopics about famous people is always terrible, they are always lies, simplifications and even when done very well, like in Lincoln, they leave out very important layers, like the fact Lincoln was an awful racist, just less racist than most at the time. so all depictions are terrible. People need to just understand that their "heroes" are fake characters in the first place, and a person with any basic historical backgrounds finds movie depictions of any single human as disgusting. Therefore they should have no problem with any other inaccuracies placed on a famous person, because the movie is itself fake. That is why they should be fantasy, or at best metaphor for a fake representation we have been sold of a famous persons life.
@codinghusky51966 ай бұрын
@@notiowegian that's... childish. Look at this: "Lincoln was an awful racist, just less racist than most at the time". This is a reaction of a young child that just figured out what momma and dadda do when they say they're "wrestling" and thinks it's "icky". It's like "I had 5l of copium and I STILL can't deal with the fact people are HUMAN". While movies aren't meant to be taken as documentaries; they ARE meant to depict someone's life with a "best foot forward" mentality because this is HELPFUL to the society; this shows us what heroes are and teaches us - no, compels us - to possibly emulate this. Lincoln didn't have to abolish slavery, has that ever occurred to your childish mind? They could've done like the arabs did at the time; castrated the slaves to keep them docile and the population under control; and we could've had that society today. The ONLY reason we have a free society is because these "awfully racist" people decided slavery was wrong. Churchill, the awful rude narcissistic drunk, didn't HAVE to stand up to the 3rd Reich, he could've joined and we could've had the Third Reich now. Tesla, the introverted insaniac with debilitating OCD didn't HAVE to invent all of the awesome stuff that built our civilization, but he did. Einstein, the dude who married his own cousin, didn't HAVE to give us a revolution in physics, but he DID. You're not ENTITLED to heroes, you GOT them because they *wanted to make the world a better place*. Have you ever wondered what being a hero even means? It's not "being perfect, virtuous and godlike in every way", that what a little undeveloped baby would think. Being a hero means "going out of your way to do the right thing in spite the difficulties and your own flaws". Biopics are meant to inspire. And why is it necessary to be correct about the VERY PERSON? Because nations they belong to are inspired by that person and they DO NOT get to have that inspiration taken away. AMERICA abolished slavery first. AMERICA. Lincoln was a white American. You do not GET to depict him as a Japanese trans woman, because Japanese trans women don't GET to take that away from America. Just like Tesla was a Serbian man, and you do not GET TO take that away from Serbia by depicting him as a mongolian lesbian. Now, I understand it's very painful to hear this, especially if you're young. Today's young people can't suffer to be inspired, because they absolutely refuse to be exposed to any incentive to better themselves. They created a "fat acceptance" movement to not ever have to lose weight, they claim mental illness to not have to study, and percieving all the heroes as worthless scumm is a part of that. Because if Lincoln was an awful racist who did nothing worth any mention, and might as well be replaced by a Fillippino grandma, then you can feel great about doing nothing worth while yourself. We get it. We despise it, but we get it.
