I admit, I go overboard with alcohol ink. So I thought we could do an experiment to see just how much alcohol ink is the perfect amount!

Hi Heather! 2 things. 1st thing, I am addicted to watching your videos. I can’t just watch A video of yours and walk away like a normal responsible adult... If I watch one☝🏼, “OK ONE”- no matter how hard I try, I will NEED to watch 1 more, and sometimes that pattern will repeat itself for way too long... it eats into in my day, and then I feel like an out of control KZbin crackhead... I guess I’m just really glad that they are free?? lol. So yeah, I just wanted to get that off my chest... 2nd! I thought I’d chime in on the White Alcohol ink “spot” problem- So, I do know ONE reason that the white ink will some sometimes sink straight to the bottom, TOO Far, and become a white “spot” on the top of the finished piece... It all has to do with the consistency of your resin at the time you decide to drop in your ink... The secret is: *When* you start adding the alcohol ink, regardless of how much you add. If you know your working time you will get an idea of how long before it starts to thicken... Resin that is freshly mixed and still has majority of its working time left is Thinner and in a much more fluid state than in will be when it’s only got under 1/2 of it’s working time left... Basically, If you pour your resin and then wait for it to thicken up a little more, before you start adding alcohol ink, the added viscosity will help suspend and “hold” the heavy white ink, instead of letting it sink straight to the bottom, and causing spots. So in the end result you’re gonna see less white by itself and just overall more vibrant color... You can tell it’s still very fluid if you add that 1st drop of ink into the resin and it seems to really spread out quick and far... It all depends on the resin you’re using and how much work time it has, Finding that sweet spot of *when* to add the ink will give you more control over where the ink does and does not go. You also get the added benefit of giving the bubbles a little more time to come to the surface to be torched/heat gunned this way! The only downside is, you’re left without as much working time to play around with, this can become an issue especially if you’re doing a lot of pieces at the same time... Anyway, play around with viscosity and drop the inks in closer to when it’s about to start curing- it produces really nice effects! The resin I use has 40-45 min of work time, And I usually let it sit and rest in the mold for about 20 min before I re-torch, and start adding inks... I have definitely waited too long before also, only to get to the last piece and have ink not move all... in the end it still looked pretty but it only created a layer of color without all the 3D effects... there’s no right or wrong way to do it, the white spots are not a bad thing at all, but I just wanted to share a hint that will help you minimize the occurrence of them if that’s the look you’re going for!

I need a scientist to explain this chemical reaction to me. But suggestion of an experiment. Since all the ink seemed to leave a circle in the middle, I'd be interested to see you only apply the ink directly in the center and see how it spreads and what shapes it forms. Second suggestion, I'd like to see the close up shots during you talking about the piece or right after you talk about the piece for video flow and pacing. Just a suggestion :) love your channel

I love the explosion too. I'm all about it! One factor that can change the result too is the work time of the resin. If the resin is stating to kick and getting thick, it will really change the look. I learned that the hard way. Lol but you can use it to your advantage too.

I try to stop myself but sometimes I do three to four layers and sometimes I do more for larger pieces. Your stuff is always so beautiful even when you feel like you've gone extra.

I tried a method someone told me that works brilliant..to clean resin from your silicone moulds and jugs, Washing up liquid and some oil.. Like spray oil or oil for cooking.. So pour straight washing up liquid in your silicone jug about teaspoon of each, rub it together with a lollypop stick inside your jug or your hand with a glove on for moulds. Make sure if your doing it over the sink you have a strainer in the sink to catch all the resin pieces then simply wash in warm soapy water.. Works great.

I definitely prefer the one with no white, although I understand what purpose the white ink serves. The one you didn’t do this time was white ink mixed into resin separately then that whitened resin added and swirled around before color. Not sure it’s much different than white first, but the one time you did it that way in a different video, I think the wispy-ness was much cooler looking. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Funny, but I love the one with one layer of white the best. I have been using Stone Coat art coat, which is not a casting resin, so I have to pour half of the coaster first, then I wait a couple of hours, then I add ink, then I pour the second half of the resin. I don’t tend to get as many of the white dots as you. Thanks, enjoy watching your videos!

So Idk if anyone else has said this but alcohol ink floats so sometimes I put a really thin layer of resin in first, then put in the alcohol ink, then fill the rest of the mold and as it floats to the top it kind of spreads the ink through the resin for a really cool effect. I did this a lot before I had any white ink to get any to sink to the bottom. Sometimes I do a small layer of clear resin- a layer of one color ink- more resin to raise the ink- then do another color- then more resin to raise it up and it’s so cool how they turn out!

The no white one would be gorgeous if U made like 3 or 5 of them (odd numbers work best) and make them into a set of windchimes sun catchers😍 also, could u put the 'Liquid Crystal' color changing stuff in it too? That way when the sun his it, the colors would change! If U can't put that stuff inside ,u could put it on the outside! Omg that would look so cool! Except I'm just realizing while typing this that that stuff only works if its on a black background so u could still make a sweet of black wind chimes and out the liquid crystal on them and hang them in the window so the sun hits them. They would Constantly change colors! 😍 omg I wish I could make it but I'll have to live through u! 😂 please make one of each!

If you want smaller drops, you can also use a lighter to melt the end of your pipette, then stretch it out with some metal tweezers. You can then snip the end off to make a new, smaller hole to drip with. (We did this in chemistry 101 WAY back when) it may take a couple tries, and also remember to be safe when dealing with fire and melted plastic 😁

could you mix one drop of white with several drops of coloured ink, *then* drip it into the resin? To make a soft pastel colour that would still sink?

Thank you for doing al these tests. Personally I am one of those people who does not like the white but I did like the one the white went in first and the one without any white. I'm a raw beginner so maybe in time ill find my way with colours and white. As one subscriber said what you call the front i would call the back. I love your work and your sparkly personality. Oh and your make up and hair xx

These are super neat! I'd love to learn how to use resin. I wonder what it would look like if you gathered all of the samples you've made (this particular size), stacked them and then turned on a light underneath them! Also, the one you used white first looks like an eye! I looks like you have an iris, a pupil and you can see through the pupil to the retina! I'm an eye technician and it peaked my interest! lol.

could you do a tutorial on how to add resin to a mason jar lid without the metal insert that usually comes with the lid? I make them right now and usually flip the lid over and pour the resin into it, but sometimes I slips under and gets on the metal and I have to peel it off or sand it. just wondering if you have any tips!! thank you!! :)

I love that your hair matches your resin bottles! Non resin question, do you colour your own hair? or do you go to a salon? If you do your own colouring, could you do a "this is not a tutorial, tis just how I do it" video? My hair is currently faded purple in need of a top up.

I wonder what would happen if you mixed the color and white together before adding them to the resin. Would you get spots of opaque color at the front? Would there be more vibrancy of color overall?

I haven't ventured into the ink side yet so not sure on the consistency of it but have you experimented with putting the white in a spray bottle rather then a dripper? I know you like the drop effect anyway but wondering how the ink would react with teeny little droplets of the white being sprayed all over from a spray bottle vs. a dropper.

What if you put the white ink in a spray bottle so the drops were smaller?
