I really appreciate how you focus on signs when to remove wire rather than simply a length of time. Thanks for sharing those beautiful trees!

You should do some bonsai tutorials on hard to work random garden center / collected material stuff that your average joe might find on a stroll in the woods or at a regular garden center.

thanks, as a Australian i appreciated the pronunciation of 'aluminium'

The reason that americans often call aluminium "aluminum" is actually because there is a popular brand of aluminum foil there called "aluminum"

This is really useful, specially for a beginner like me. Thank you. I live in India. I started a Neem (Azadirachta indica) Bonsai from nursery stock last year. (My first!) It is a young tree right now, and I used very light aluminium wire on the trunk and some branches. Didn’t realise it has been on there too long. Now it is stuck in there really good. The bark has begun to grow over the wire now. Big rookie mistake, I realise. Not sure if I can do anything about it now, without killing the plant altogether 😟

most of my trees are shohin size pre-bonsai & I've found that tweezers are a great way to grab ahold of the little pieces of wire when unwinding it when its too dug into the branch [which happens to me alot lol (busy schedule)] especially when in hard to reach places for my fat fingers

Great subject and very interesting!! Every year I miss a couple of branches (in my limited collection) those branches always seem to be hidden for me. "Ow yeah, that tree is still not biting in." *Checks a back branch* "Ugh, darn it"

Really great guide, thanks Bjorn. I had no idea you could leave wire on quite so long with coniferis species. I've always been removing the wire before it bit in and couldn't figure out why my branches wouldn't hold. Another great Bonsai U video

Terrific ! my slant bonsai black pine. Had a terrific indent of wire !! i wired it in june and had a strong feeding and a twig bented of 6 mm dm now , Had en indent of almost over 1 mm i quickly took away all wires but apparently it was the only one Marked so deeply , i wonder if the fact of string benting made the sap condense more in that branch than in straight - sligtly bent ones

For your info. I use as fertilizer fermented grapeseed or mustard .. or cotton meal oThese seeds grinded into flour mix with 10-20 x of their volume in water make it ferment in a jar for 30-40 days ( it stinks a lot ) When i need watering give every x 1-2 weeks according the variety of plant leafed or needle bonsai i mix 1 quantity ok fertilizer into 10 times of clear water .. it is safe and excellent

please talk about winterizing bonsai (Japanese Juniper). Cold frames, fertilizers, sun etc
@danielkosta31344 жыл бұрын
Here is what I do in USDA zone 5. No fertilizer after the end of August. When temps in the mid 20s are predicted for 3 nights it's time to put the trees away. I make a frame with 2x8 boards set on edge. I set it up in a shaded and protected spot. The trees go into the frame and then pine bark mulch goes between the pots. Conifer foliage must remain exposed. When done I water the mulch so it freezes to keep mice out. I remove the trees in late April. Been doing this for over 30 years and it works for me.

Great vid per usual. Are there other cases, like the black pine, where you want the wire to bite in because the tree will scar in an interesting way to create that “funky trunk” look? Thanks again.

Hey, seriously hoping you read these comments, I could use some tips: inspired by your clump bonsai video, I decided to no longer put it off and start my own bonsai. Now I have collected seeds from my parents Japanese maple and intend on growing a ton of seedlings to create a clump style bonsai as you have shown. the natural growing ones found in my parents garden are super tiny and fragile, the ones you use in your video seem quite strong. any suggestions how I can turn these seeds into strong seedlings to use for this project? Thanks in advance.
@danielkosta31344 жыл бұрын
It will require time. Growing bonsai from seed is a long term process. It may be 5 years or more, under good growing conditions, before the seedlings are ready to begin a clump style. If possible plant them in the ground for a few years. This will speed things up some.
