Today’s video outlines three different groups of tiny homes I found on AirDNA and Airbnb. I break down the different types of tiny homes and what you can expect to earn with one. I’m a huge fan of huge ROI (return on investment). It’s what makes short term rentals such a goldmine. As good as the ROI on a typical short term rental is, you still can’t beat ADUs a.k.a. auxiliary dwelling units - things like yurts, A-frames, campers, or geodesic domes. These are places to stay that are additions to the main property. They can be temporary or “permanent.”
Having looked into a lot of these, I believe you’re best off with geodesic domes. This is a project we’re now taking on with FDomes on our 99 acre property north of Toronto. I did some digging and found some actual examples on Airbnb that I want to share.
First, we go over a geodesic dome I found in Fairview, NC. Second, I show off a tiny home outside Asheville, NC. The third is a camper. These are pretty cheap to set up, for sure, but can earn a great ROI.
Remember: return on investment is about percentages.
Then, I share a bonus pair of domes I found in Hendersonville. These were the best ones I found, and honestly, you might not believe how much they earn. They set a standard for anyone wanting to set up a geodesic dome (at least until we get ours going!)

We are in the process of building a 845 dome. Our cost is around $150k all in clusive not including the 11 acres we purchased.

Totally agree about the upside for glamping domes, but the cost to build the ones you referenced is actually closer to 100k per unit after the infrastructure is in place with well, septic, and electric. I stayed in the Fairview dome last summer and it really is awesome. Fun fact, the builder for the Hendersonville domes has his own KZbin channel and he helped build the dome unit in Fairview. Channel is Blue Ridge Glamping

I think 100k might be too much, there was an episode of Building Off the Grid where a couple built everything included in the dome; bathroom, kitchen, electric, water, and it’s own power grid. They said the solar panels was the most expensive part of the build (15k-20k). And the total cost was around 80k. This was before the sky high inflation so that could have something to do with it also

Cool video. I'm way over 30-40k lol. Went all out though with a 30x30 deck, it's got a septic system as well with a real shower and toilet too... Coming soon to Middle Tennessee! Highwater Glamping :)

for AIR DNA, the available days means days worth of data on the listing. Meaning AirDNA has only been tracking it for 100 days. It does not mean vacancy in the year.
@james.svetec
@james.svetec Жыл бұрын
No, days available is the number of days that the property was available for bookings in the last 365 days. Sometimes it’s low because the listing is brand new, other times it’s low because it’s only available part time throughout the year.

Hello, thanks for the info. A little mis leading with your price analysis with start up costs. Bringing water septic and electricity to the property is 40k alone.
@james.svetec

Yeah if you were to add septic it would be expensive, however that would also be super overkill. Hooking water up can actually be pretty inexpensive.
@echeroll

I was going to comment the same thing, 40K budget for the dome is way misleading. If you add the septic, etc, preparing the land, paying the contractor, etc. It will be about 100K plus. Is the 40K budget building just for the materials? How about the labor?
@Fr0mDust2Dust

I’m estimating my build at a little over 30k. I think it’s possible if you have existing septic, water and power already on the property. I have an acre with an existing home so the it will just be the build and landscaping that is expensive.

Why do people prefer staying in geodesic domes to other forms of housing? Is it because its cool looking shape?
@james.svetec
@james.svetec Жыл бұрын
People are willing to pay more for unique experiences that they’ve never had before, so sleeping in a dome where they’re immersed in nature and can fall asleep looking at the stars is worth paying more for!
@stillmind5892

The energy is different. Mind feels more at ease without corners, so you rest better, think better and feel better. Round shapes are in a sense more natural (most optimal kind of shapes in 3D space - as you can see from large and small forms in the universe), and more resembling of the womb interior and mother's breast - which is unconsciously the most safety you can ever feel. It's basically a much softer, harmonious, nourishing and safer feeling than say a knife blade ;) The subtle energy of the universe also might be flowing differently in a dome(it does in pyramids and they aren't round), because everything in essence is geometry, so aligning the structure of your home to an optimal geometry is similar to aligning your spine - instantly makes you feel much better, doesn't it :)

A lot of misinformation in this video. A project like this will cost you upwards of $100,000. The guy you pulled up, at the end, he paid $50,000USD just for the dome and materials not including the labour, septic tank, land, well etc.
