I love watching your videos. I'm from Tarija but spent all my teen and young adult life in La Paz and whole heartily can say is one of my fav cities in the world (I'm lucky enough to have visited few continents and currently living in the US) Just such a mix of ethnicities; walking and breathing culture. Btw the hats are called Borsalino, from what I was told: somewhere in the 1920's a businessman brought a large shipment of them to Bolivia and were indented to be sold to railroad workers bit the size and color was wrong too small and they were marketed and sold between women the emergent upper "cholo" class of that time. OFC there are many other versions but the real one like many things in Bolivia was lost in time and mixed with a bit of storytelling.

Welcome to La Paz. I really enjoyed your video, it's so natural and entertaining. I used to live in La Paz, let me explain some things that maybe you are wondering. The place you walked through is the largest commercial area in the city of La Paz where we buy everything, I know it seems like a complete mess, but every street is specialized in a kind of item. And if you noticed, local people are surprised when you walk on the streets with a camera, it happens because it is very unusual to blog with a camera on hand in this neighborhood, there are lots of pickpockets, and in general, tourists do not walk in this area, but I loved that you did. As for the socks, the first place you bought those ones is called Uyustus street, this place is a bit more expensive with better quality than the others. I would not have bought 10bs socks because they are of very low quality, but there is an important detail, in Bolivia when you are buying something on the street you have to negotiate the price because the seller always gives you a higher price (plus 10bs, 5bs, 2bs). I think this type of socks cost 20bs. That is why local people always ask the price in different stores before buying something. About the meat market, all that you saw: cow feet, hearts, kidneys, stomachs, tripe, etc is to cook local dishes. And believe me, all dishes are delicious. And yes, it is very common in Bolivia to buy food on the street, but you have to clean this very well. Some native people in La Paz tend to be shy around tourists (cultural reasons hard to explain) so some people don't like being filmed. I feel sorry for the woman who asked you for $1 for information. we don't do that, but a few sellers are rogues. I don't know how much is the cholita outfit but this is expensive and there is more variety in the Cementerio neighborhood. And it is very funny how you made the girls nervous that you talked in the video, this area not only Bolivia I mean Latinoamerica you're considered very handsome and your friendly behavior it's a plus.

En realidad preguntaste por gorras (caps), el nombre correcto es sombrero. El precio puede llegar hasta 100 dólares por sombrero, dependiendo del material. Caps are cheap, sombreros aren't. El carnaval de Oruro es espectacular.

Bueno tambien decirte que para comprar cualquier cosa en bolivia siempre se pregunta el precio ya que varia en todos los lugares en un lugar puedes encontrar con alto precio y en otro lugar puedes encontrar mas barato tambien en bolivia usamos la palabra de la rebaja lo que quiere decir es que si tu quieres comprar ejemplo una chompa le dices a la señora no me rebajas y ella te rebaja o si te dice ejmplo la chompa 55 bs y tu le dices no me vendes en 50 bs ella acepta pero todo depende de la persona 🙂

No issues with safety I have never had anything happen to me in Bolivia. I previously lived in La Paz for 2,5 years.
