I feel like Latin America is way way more dangerous than Eastern Europe. Theres a reason why those countries have the highest murder rates. I might be prejudiced because I grew up in Honduras, but dang dude, when you have not only old people, but tons of random young people walking up to you and trying to warn you with absolutely no prompting, that just gives me extreme anxiety. I would not even walk into the hood of the town I grew up in. Just be careful in Latin America bald. Tons of nice people, but too many that want to do harm, especially as a gringo who doesn't speak the language

I lived in LATAM for years and when people tell you not to go to certain areas, it's better to listen. As a bolivian guy, i would say you were lucky enough to keep your camera. That place is pretty dangerous, and right now it's worse than ever due to political stuff. If you'd decided to visit El Alto a couple hours later, i'm sure you would have lost more than just your camera.
