Hello everyone! Welcome back to my humble channel. For todays video, I strip down a 70 foot extension cord to see how much copper is inside. I show my quick and easy approach to quickly separate all the wires and rope from each other. I quickly strip down the entire cord and reveal the percentage of copper versus plastic.
I weigh it up then melt it down in my Devil-Forge furnace, I add some aluminum to the crucible and casted some really nice bronze ingots. The first time I ever made aluminum bronze and I have to say, the ingots came out pretty nice. I have a project coming up in the next few weeks so the bronze will come in handy for that.
If your new to my channel and like seeing scrapping, tips about scrapping, want to learn to be a scrapper, how to make money from scrapping or just like to see metal melted down and made into bars, then please consider hitting that subscribe button. I publish new content every single week.
Don't forget to give me a thumbs up :)
Thanks for checking out my video! Happy Scrapping, Casting and Stacking!

Thanks brother! After 4 years of casting under my belt, it still fascinates me as to how much junk I scrapped to get that pile on the table. Looking at 200 lbs of recovered copper that was destined to rot in landfill is a good feeling 🙂. Thanks for watching! 👊🏼🍻

Thanks brother! If memory serves me correctly I think I did an 88% copper, 12% aluminum mix on this one. Love that brownish gold color. Besides ingots the only other casting I’ve done in aluminum-bronze was a 12” long cannon. Thanks for watching brother 🙂🍻👊🏼

Good looking bars looks great also pro tip if your upcoming project is something that needs strength when you remelt the aluminum bronze add a few pieces of cast iron from breaking up an old cast iron pan or something and that will give it the ability to quench Harden and add to the strength but if you just going for something artistic the color looks perfect

Thanks a bunch brother and thanks for the tip! I plan on making new crucible tongs out of Aluminum bronze. Pretty much copy ArtbyAdrock and BigstackD’s tongs that they use. I know ArtbyAdrock only used copper and aluminum to make his but I’m definitely willing to toss in a few pieces of cast iron for strength. 🙂👊🏼🍻

@@Scrap2Cast glad I could be of help and no problem but with anything I would recommend doing some research before jumping into it but you basically just want to put in anywhere from 2 to 5 % in weight of cast iron you melt it and some of the cast-iron will dissolve due to the aluminum and because of the iron it allows it to quench harden and is stronger in general but careful with too much aluminum or too much iron it will cause it become brittle and if you try and quench it it'll crack and if you ever have any questions or concerns about an alloy or anything you can always go to r/Metalfoundry

You know, for just guessing on that aluminum ingot, the color looks pretty spot on! Not bad!
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Жыл бұрын
I estimated it was about 12-15% of the weight but it did have a bit of slag in it which I’m pretty sure got scooped out beforehand so yeah, not too bad huh? 😁 Thanks for watching brother! 👊🏼🍻

Great Job Scrap2Cast!!!! The first time I did Bronze it came out as a mix of Aluminum and Copper separating at the top of the pour. I still have it and you can see the Copper on top. First-time failures work to your advantage as well. Maybe I'll remelt it later, but it's interesting looking...lol Keep it coming Bro!!!! Always a good day to melt!!! 🔥🔥💯💯🔥🔥😎😎

Thanks brother! Out of curiosity did you give the material a good stir? I must’ve stirred it for a good solid minute, although the camera footage shows a “quick stir” 😉 I’d love to see a picture of the bar you made

I was wondering what filters you feel are the safest to use for your respirator.I been using M3 6006. Niosh.
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Жыл бұрын
I’ll be honest with you, I use the respirators that HF sells. They work okay but if I cast into Petrobond sand I can smell the burnt sand even with the respirator on. If I had my choice I’d try to buy a breathing apparatus like firemen use.
