Ben, I hope you see this.. I recently watched every single one of your videos. Last week I spent roughly 3 days from your very first upload to present day. It's been a wonderful story following your life and experiences.. you truly are making a lifetime of memories and for that I'm jealous. I live in Florida and my "get away" is up into the Appalacian mountains of Western North Carolina. Driving all the back roads and being out there with nature. All I can say is good job man.. glad to see you progress into a great filmmaker, adventurer and just share being a nice & humble human being to so many people you've encountered. You've truly experienced a lot and lived in difficult situations merely for the story and enjoyment of being free. Keep on keepin' on! I wish you good health and good fortune. Look forward to following your adventures in the future. - Travis

Hey, I live in North Carolina. There's better places to go than here. I'm in the process of converting a van to get the heck out of dodge. Head out west, the mountains out there are far more impressive. Just letting you know, from a local perspective, it's not as great as it may seem.

Not going to lie, came up onto your channel through your 3 years montage around 2 days ago. I'm probably the most depressed I've ever been right now not being able to find a job for multiple months now and not knowing if I would still go back to college or what to do with my life. Binge watching your videos really inspired me to set up a goal and save up to eventually travel and discover myself that way through adventuring. I really hope to meet you someday, maybe come across you eventually. You're really inspiring and I hope you a safe and happy travel to your journeys to come :)

@@KombiLife exactly. Yeah, a newer campervan(like a ford transit) would be more comfortable and reliable, but it would stick out like a sore thumb in those countries and you wouldnt be able to sleep at night. Its better to blend in, drive what locals drive, but with the modifications that have been mentioned in other videos that aould have made things easier. But hindsight is 2020

Your videos have inspired me to travel the US in a 70s VW Westfalia for about a year. It may not be as extravagant or hardcore as your trip, but it's a start. San Diego to Anchorage isn't exactly a lack luster journey when you account for having to drive from Minnesota to get there and stopping in the Rockies. I'm definitely excited for it. I just wanted to thank you for giving me a reason to really look forward to my future. I used to always fear being trapped in a job and regretting not truly putting myself out there like this, and you've given me the final push I needed to make the choice. Besides, I didn't know looking for a bus to drop money on in 3 years time could be so fun!

past memory I sort of did this. You'll get a lot of people who will say, "but what about college??" The truth is travelling will wisen you up much faster than studying. I came back with a sense of maturity that made me a bit condescending toward college kids because most of them have little perspective. Travelling will also boost your confidence and make you more aware of who you are and what you care about. 10/10 strongly recommended

I've been planning to do this for a while. I'm a Brit too, I live in Australia now after a bit of travel-- funnily enough-- big KZbin fan, no idea your channel existed until tonight. I've been planning on going home, then doing a euro-centric drive. Me, a van, and a dog, entirely coincidentaly. You are the inspiration I needed to know this is where I'm going next. I have no camara and editing skills, but I can be a dab-hand at writing (at least I like to think so). Plan is to document both in the written relms and on KZbin, whilst working on my other writing too. Just a massive thanks, though. For giving me the umph I needed. Man, videos like this give me bad ideas :D, I'd absolutely love to do a trip like this, almost did when I quit my last job, decided to go back to uni instead. I'd love to go from Glasgow, Scotland (my home town) to Vladivostok, Russia, then take a ferry to Japan, then container/roro the car to Aus where I can leave it with family. I just can't stomach the cost, but the way you did it is amazing and the points you make about shared costs are great, it makes it seen so much more achievable than I originally thought.

Hi Kombi Life, loving your adventures! Back in 1982 my new wife and I drove from London to Cape Town in a VW Type 2 Kombi, we spent 3 years on the road (plenty of the 'road' wasn't!). If we had had the technology that you have now, we would have similar stories to tell and videos to make. Our only record are some amazing photographs and plenty of memories. Back then, no phones, no nothing. 35 years later, I am looking at vans again, cooking up a plan for more life in a home on wheels. Keep on trucking Ben, you make an old hippie happy :)

I bet you! Many of us are looking forward to your next adventure (while we are planing ours...). Mine is in the works, same as yours but down south: Alaska to Patagonia. it started in 2005-06 when I was expecting a BIG PAY Day which never happened since my business partner (an ex-friend) ran away with the money... Then it was recently after my dad's death. BUT things got complicated after his death so I've been stuck for three years going on 4... No worries I will do it someday. That is for sure... Your series helped me a LOT! To understand what goes on during the odyssey. I got so many things planned already and expect to make it in 6 months. It will be a "V" Trip: Down the Pacific up the Atlantic. Alaska to Patagonia and then back to one of the most beautiful places in the world: Nova Scotia. Where I may even stop for a while to live in. Anyway Godspeed my friend and thanks for sharing such wonderful experiences.

There's a big difference in life experience and maturity between 18 and 28. I would travel in the summer for 2 or 3 months, then go to school the rest of the year. Get a college education for as cheap as possible, and some summer travel experience, before you head out on a big world tour for a few years. Being at least 25 years old with a college degree, 5 years of life and work experience and maturity, will help a lot dealing with people and problems you encounter during your travels.

I just spent the last 2 night watching all of your videos of your adventure. I really got mixed emotions from it. I love the whole idea of the trip, meeting new people, making new friends and seeing new terrain, thing like that stick with your for the rest of your life. However, I felt sad at the end cause I always wanted to do the trip, it was one of my dreams. Now at my age(36) I seriously regret not having the balls to go thru it and your videos just show me everything that I missed by not doing so. So all I can do now is keep watching your vids and keep regretting..

this is exacly what I want to do. Just travel (in my case with a lot of sports along the way) while making content about it. I have been saving up for the past half year and planning to leave in about 1,5 years. For now I will start making content and training the sports I want to do along the way. You're youtube channel along with adrenaline addiction have really inspired me to start working to make this dream come true.
