Thank you for the clear disclosure. I love the hobby. In the end it's all about the passion. I hope to have a dream tank soon. I'm not a reef man nor saltwater person. So my dreams are a little different but they're still my dreams. My takes, alluminum stand, custom clear glass tank, great pumps, and very good lighting. I use Texas Holey Rock for my scape. I've added some of the same arches you use with wood as a giant root cliff scape. Enjoy!

I think there are not that many people out there who would share so openly on what they spent on their tanks, especially because you can expect that a lot of people will just post hateful comments because they are most likely jealous...which a part of me is too t.b.h. ;) It is your money and only you decide on what you want to spend it. Other people spend their money on cars, art or whatever. I think we are all very lucky that your are sharing your journey with us, so we all benefit from it at the end :) And spending money for something that you love and that makes you happy is never wrong! Hey mate, you mentioned you had 7 of the Wifi power adapters connected. I know this might sound like a really bizarre question but where do you plug them all into the wall? I know you mentioned in another video they're on their own circuit, I'm assuming you don't have any extension cables running so do they just all go in the wall behind the tank? I'm in a rental and only have one wall socket behind where the tank will be (with the standard two inputs). I was able to get a 12-slot power adapter with really positive ratings to plug into one and I purchased one of the smart adapters for things I will need to turn off in a pinch, but just for future-proofing, how have you done the power?
@ParkersReef3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brad! Yeah mate, I have 2 dedicated points (each with 2 outlets) outlets behind the tank. One is on my battery backed up circuit and the other is a standard power point. I have a couple of large powerboards on those which I have then connected each of the grid connect boards to. It works, but I wouldn't say it is a gold standard by any stretch (well, the outlet situation, not the battery backup - that is absolutely gold standard!)
@bradelz3 жыл бұрын

Hats off for sharing this information. I've been thinking about making the leap, with a 'how much it cost' video myself. Not at all comfortable to do, but is so important to share this kind of information, especially given the number of subscribers you have. I think there is still this idea that only "rich people" can have a reef tank. Most getting into the hobby have no idea, the micro decisions that are made along the way, and the dedication / passion it takes, to make such a dream possible. It's not unlike the steps that lead up to building a dream house or business. Either way, I hope folks take this information to heart. I believe it will help aspiring reefers in the planning phases leading up to their very first to eventual dream aquarium.

Great video - a topic we've all wondered about. Thumbs up for the way you approached and handled this one. There will always be haters on the internet, but those of us who follow you understand and appreciate you sharing this info. Yes its a lot of money, but if its what you love doing, its all relative... That sort of money doesn't buy you much if your hobby is Motor Racing, Flying a plane (or even jumping out of a plane!), endless house renovations, or dare I say it - moving house! For a piece of living art that gives you and the family huge enjoyment over an extended period of time - money well spent I think. P.S. Love your comment about adding more snails (Thanks for not calling me out as one of the people who's probably / definitely under cooked this in my tank) - 20 turbos added over the past 2 x weeks, and more coming next week :)

Hey Sam, awesome video. There’s nothing about our hobby that is cheap and the amount of joy it gives you is what life is about. Amazing job and this tank is going to be a stunner. You should check out the latest BRS video on bacteria. Something I’ve been studying for a while. Game changer in my opinion.

Bacteria is absolutely where it is at. Closed ecosystems make it difficult, but thankfully in 2021 we are making great developments!!

@@ParkersReef More about constant supply of new beneficial bacteria and pro biotic. I’ve found it to help with stn acro’s getting bacterial infections. The new good bacteria seems to stop the bad plus it has made nitrate management so much more stable. I’ve found a mix of daily benepets and weekly prodibio to be amazing. All anecdotal of course but a lot of high end sps guys like reef moonshiners are doing a lot of good experimenting.

Im sure its been asked somewhere in the comments but I don't see any mention of automation. Is there a reason you didn't go with something like an Apex Neptune to keep track of flow, params etc.. BTW Its a gorgeous tank. I really enjoyed the height adjustable lights, thats creative and seems super useful. It gave me an idea for DIY on mine using a motorized standing desk frame to accomplish the same thing.

Hey Shaun, thanks for watching and commenting. I have tried neptune, ghl, reef angel, felix smart and some others - haven't found any controllers that I remotely like yet. I find them to be unreliable, overpriced and under-featured. But that's just my opinion :)

Good for you fella, it's a amazing set up which I'm sure will bring loads of enjoyment, looking forward to seeing it grow out. I'm a long time discus keeper and am toying with the idea of starting up career tank sadly not on par with your dream tank but who knows, maybe one day after all what are dreams for.....

Cheers mate - gotta admit, 5 years ago when I started toying with the idea of this build - I never thought it’d be this hectic either 😅

I have nothing constructive or negative to say about your aquarium, if you have the chance to create your dream aquarium, do it. You did it and it is just beautiful, I dream of such a thing. I will continue to dream while watching your videos.

@Parkers Reef. Love the build. Thanks for your transparency as it helps put things in perspective. Are you able to provide a list of your purchasing resources? Is there a reliable Australian website/forum for purchasing second hand equipment? Thanks
@ParkersReef2 жыл бұрын
thanks mate, greatly appreciate it! I couldn't give a reliable source to buy used equipment as there is no guarantee with this stuff! But I find buying from facebook groups off of people who have been in the hobby for a while to be as safe as it gets :)

Love every piece of the tank and you truly deserve it. I am confused about the price you paid for the Philips coral care gen 2. Arent, they 900$ dollars each. I know the current is different but is it that drastically different or am I looking at a different light. Thank you. I think one of the best parts of the build is the cabinets but that's not saying that much cuz all parts of the build are fire.
@ParkersReef3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had some early access to them, so freight was a bit higher and out Australian pricing (smaller market) is higher than elsewhere in the world. Still love the lights though

Just stumbled on your channel. Having been in Reef Keeping for over 25 years myself - I'm really impressed in your initial detailed setup! Well done for the design! There's so much advancement since when I first started. One thing I wanted to ask - are you thinking of some sort of automation further down the line? If so - what would you like to have? Anyhow, I'm interested to see how this tank develops - 1+ sub :) And...Good luck and have fun!

Hey thanks for joining in the journey!! I do have a fair bit of automation on this system and will add some more. I’m assuming by automation, you’re talking aquarium controllers though? I’m a programmer by trade and I’m not overly impressed by the current offering of controllers available on the market. That being said, I am super interested in the hydros as I like where it is headed
