Agree. Hard to stomach people's misplaced judgment when in every frame of the series, you can see that it looked and feel expensive. Goes to say that Amazon really poured their hearts (& money) in The Rings of Power. This after the fact that they don't have the full rights of Tolkien's published books.

After the 4:27 mark, I think you have made a mistake with the publication history. Houghton Mifflin was US the company that published the books in the US, publication dates are as follows The Fellowship of the Ring on 21 October 1954, The Two Towers on 21 April 1955, and The Return of the King on 5 January 1956. Houghton Mifflin had been initially been granted a limited, five-year license to import the trilogy in limited numbers to America, not Ace books as you claim. Donald Wollheim, editor of Ace Books wanted to publish it in paperback form and apparently called up Tolkien about it in 1964, but Tolkien did not want it to be published in paperback form, apparently telling him he didn't want his work to appear in "‘degenerate a form’ as the paperback book." Do note that this insistence of Tolkien was for the Lord of The Rings, back in 1961 Penguin books had published the Hobbit in paperback form already. Well Wollheim began to look for ways to get round this and found out that the Houghton Mifflin limited copyright had expired and also due to the material having been printed in the UK Wollheim argued it was a loophole that placed the books outside of US copyright law and that it was in the public domain and went ahead and published his "pirated" books and didn't pay any royalties. Now naturally Tolkien was not happy with this and brought this to the attention of his US fans and also had an official paperback edition released through Ballantine. Eventually Ace books agreed to pay royalties and the Ace books were allowed to go out of publication. I recommend looking up "Eisen, Durwood & Co., Inc. v. Tolkien, 794 F. Supp. 85 (S.D.N.Y. 1992)" case...the federal court in New York decided that the Lord of the Rings publication was fully protected by US copyright law, even back then and not as Ace books claimed . Edited for spelling mistakes
