Keep in mind this is the cost before any incentives. There is a 30% tax credit, depreciation for commercial projects, a possible USDA grant, and many years of reduced electric bills.

And thats why it hasn't caught on yet. Nobody is gonna want to pay that much for a home. Especially these days where homes are less and less permanent. Until its 3.5 grand instead of 35 grand Its not affordable. Really hard to justify spending that much on solar panels when your house already comes with electricity from the city. Plus the maintenance that comes with solar panels, you'd never recoup your costs especially if you live in an area with snow every day clearing off solar panels just so you can get warm for a few hours before they get covered again. Too many variables, for too much money. In the end you would either spend much more effort than the change would be worth, or you'd spend more money paying people to do it for you than you would've for just a regular monthly power bill. Maybe in another decade or two the technology will be there, but for now clouds, snow, and fallen leaves rounds out to about half the year with no power in some places. For 35k thats a hard nope. Ill just continue to pay $150 a month, thanks.
