The long answer: "Practice makes perfect, even if you arent satisfied, its still a learning process, always have a good support system and never give up on trying to complete that first comic, its never too late to try anything new." The short answer: "A lot..."

This is the hard truth you have to accept, it's easy to start but soooooo hard to continue going. If you asked me why I draw manga I wouldn't tell you, I don't have some deep reason that keeps me going. What I do have is just a desire, I've pushed through hard times drawing pages after pages and I've drawn so much now that looking back on how much I've done is enough to keep me going, like I've always done

An interesting approach to the topic of creating manga, very realistic and accurate, which is usually overlooked. The mangaka is a worker who follows the rhythm of an industry, so if that rhythm is not achievable, everything else will be the same. Thank you

The difference between the difficulties of drawing manga for a living and the difficulties of working some stupid 9-5 job is that I LOVE to draw. That's enough of a motivator for me.❤‍🔥

That is very true! Although even when you love what you're doing there'll be times that it won't be fun. But ultimately if you love doing it, it's worth it.

Hi, thank you for the video and a breakdown of how many pages to draw per year as well. :) I am considering making a comic from my novel(s) I have written, and this helps me a lot to see what it takes to work on a comic. It will be a while before I can publish a comic, but I am working on some concept art now :) I am working on some coloring pages/books first and published four already, hope to have a side project as a comic, will see if I can do it. :) 🔥

I believe you gave a very good and realistic approach to this topic, plus are many other factors to be considered at a PRO level (professional in the means you see it as a PAID OCUPATION and is what you do as main income to make a living) we repeatedly see the "webtoon dream" in young artist, but the entertainment industry and in particular the comics industry are complex in terms of economics and the whole system is design to enforce monopoly and the hegemony of big companies, is unfair how is not about quality or skills anymore, the biggest problem your artist face is they could have great artististic skills but do not have economic skills and can not monetize their great art and ideas, then they just jump into an unknown world with their hearts full of dreams and crash with a wall that discourage them, it is a HUGE filter trying to stop individuals to succeed in the industry, they want you to fail and just give up and work for them and EXPLOIT you, no matters if is digital or printed media you will always see this middle third party taking advantage of artist, if you try to self publish the number of possibilities increases at stressing point where you knock doors and none of them opens, all this with the goal to limit you, editorials will simply take advantage of you in the other hand if you self publish stores will be reluctant to distribute your books, then again you end cornered and just fall into Amazon or other companies hands, and Webtoon is probably one of the WORST platforms you can work with, the process to become a CANVAS original ae not clear and are many disclosure information that prohibits creators to really know how it works and as any other company you MUST understand the terms are not beneficial for you and they will always have the winner's hand, going to bigger platforms as Comixology can be also not beneficial for a first time publisher, and the biggest issue is not about the quality fo your comic in terms of visuals and story is more about MARKETING, MARKETING is a the key and is also the skill that demands more effort and work for independent creators, then is not just work 12 hours a day drawing you also need to manage your MARKETING and SLAES what can consume even more time than drawing the pages, and in every case is different, the majority of independent creators put a lot of effort in social media to advertising their stories but just see this video, produce this video takes effort and time as well, and the more important thing you mention is TIME because at PRO level TIME is MONEY, then is no shortcuts, you simply start small and try to grow, and probably you ae dreaming to become something like those HUGE companies like Marvel, DC etc but believe me you do not want that, why? simply because when you become a big company you stop being an artist and you become a businessman what means you sold your dream and end being some one you never dreamt to be and in such scenario if that is your dream, crate a comics company then you do not need to draw at all, your works is completely different, you become a vampire a PARASYTE that simply seek for naive artist to exploit them AS SIMPLE AS THAT, the economic part of being an independent creator and interpreneur is the more scary one and in most part of cases the motivation is not exactly art but MONEY what means your passion is not about art but about money and your actions reflect your motivation, as soon as you add money as factor the whole thing collapse and become rotten, because of it I believe this is one of the hardest topics to talk about, after over 3 decades working in the industry I realize at some point I sold my dreams, I have a good life in good and strong economics and a family that brings the greatest happiness in life but putting in apart talking exclusively at professional perspective I am not satisfied, many times I tried hard to do my own and failed to a point I stop dreaming and just focused on what I need to do to sustain my family and do the best for them totally resigning to my own dreams, now I am aware I do not have the time to create my own story anymore and that can break your heart, then I failed but that doesn't means you will, DO NOT STOP DREAMING, fight fight and fight without stop, if one thing doesn't work try another but do not stop, if is in your heart in your soul if you really want to tell a story DO IT, because is better a small not best quality FINISHED product than hundreds of ideas and dreams, no matters if takes you days months or years keep working, promote your story as much as you can, print some books and try to sale them locally, in our neighbor stores no matters if they are not comic stores, just ask for the help of your community, in many parks are free little library boxes put one of your books there, DO NOT FOCUS on the money FOCUS in the story and the money will come eventually and let me say bye with the biggest advice my father gave to me, he said: "Eduardo no matters what you pick to do in life, but ANYTHING you decide to do you MUST to become the best at it, because as soon as you are good enough SOMEBODY will start paying you for doing it"

I absolutely agree on it's better to give it a shot and fail than to not try at all. However if you do it with realistic goals in mind you can give it a try with an actual reachable goal in sight and not start up setting up for failing to the get go. This is why I like to recommend every young artist to start out with short stories and smaller goals, as what you learn and the taste of achievement can take you so much farther than jumping head first into the deep water. Thank you for your support and I wish you the best of luck! 🙌

That's closer to Western comics issues and definitely much easier to execute 1 or two volumes a year! Since I work with manga inspired content and volumes, I was wanting to focus on that, but obviously if your volumes are shorter you can get more out in a year but the page count in the end will add up!

Hi I just started out learning to draw and I am aiming to become a pro anime artist, mainly drawing anime characters. So should I focus on learning fundamentals first and then try drawing anime characters or is there anything else you can suggest? Also can I get good at this within 2 years if i spend 6 hours every day to learn art? I am learning digitally btw.
@saigamiproject
@saigamiproject 2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you want to be primarily a character designer, so for that I definitely would recommend starting with the fundamentals. Figure drawing, shape language, color theory are all crucial parts of character designing and once you have these basics in your alley you can focus more on the various styles you want to try and master. As for the time, everyone's improvement speed is different. Some people can do it faster, some require a bit more time. I personally am a slower type. What is important that you spend that practice time on quality practice and learning and you can do it!
