We went through a lot there were only 2 HOs in a gyn obs ward with 240+ deliveries had to cover clinics theatre obs gyn wards. Medicine ward was also the same. But it helped me a lot I gained a lot of experience.After the internship became a medical officer in aneasthesia and icu in a heavy unit I came across a lot of toxic people but all those experiences sharpened me. To all the juniors "Incoming fire is the right way out" I was always telling this to myself (it is from call of duty computer game)

Hello Sahani, look dear there is a very slim chance that you may find an internship here ,they prioritise all the graduates from Australian Unis and compatible and approved other universities from other countries before they consider graduates from sri Lanka.I think its better to get the internship and at least one year post internship in Sri Lanka will be the the best option for you, In the mean time get through AMC MCQ exam..I know this sounds frustrating but reality .Please talk to AHPRA for more information.

Hello Sameera , that sounds fantastic and congrats .to work as a physician you will have to finish your training year in AU and go back to Sri Lanka and get your cert with the college in Sri Lanka. Then apply for a post under 2 consultants for 2 years and at the end of that 2 years if those consultants are happy with your performance then you can apply for specialist recognition pathway with Aphra. normally these placements are hard to find and its always rural .Otherwise you will have to do AMC and continue working as a registrar in medicine or other field .

Hello Minoli ,Sounds like a plan .It means that you have to find an internship first .Not to discourage you but its gonna be hard to find a job here for an IMG who has graduated from a medical school outside Australia other than New Zealand ,US/Canada or UK. .But definitely you can try.

Don’t miss your chance to become a doctor. Your chance becoming a doctor is 99% once you selected to Sri lanakn medical school, but going to nursing school and then getting to medical school is much harder and you will significantly lower your chances becoming a doctor. Hello Chathumi, the usual answer is no.But there is a path called area of need and that’s once you get the board certificate from Sri Lanka after your foreign training your MD qualification will be individually assessed by the relevant collage in Australia and if the collage is happy you can apply for an area of need position in rural Area in Australia as a supervised registrar/ supervised medical officer under 2 consultants for 2 years and if they think you are okay as a consultant to work in Australia they will approve you ,but you have to go and work in a very remote area And it’s NOT guaranteed that you will be approved at the end .for this process you will not need AMC exams but IELTS .Again the priority will be given for those positions will be for people from compliment authority pathway as from UK ,USA ,NZ.So The best way is to do few years post internship and AMC exam in that case .To practice as a foreign trained surgeon the chances are very very slim and I would say don’t even try , but still if you are very determined you could give it a go.Because surgical specialities are highly competitive and high demand in Australia .even Australian trained doctors can’t get into training even if they work as service registrar for years and years here .hope this answer is adequate and please get back if you have any more questions .

Unfortunately in Australia getting into surgical training is very difficultly even for local doctors who graduated from Australian universities.it’s extremely competitive.and MS/ M is not valid here and if you want to get in to training you will have to first get your general registration and PR and then work as a gen surgery registrar for a long period and you can apply and do their entry exams and it’s gonna be too hard.but you can always try..

hello Ishimali, you still have to go through the standard pathway to get the registration with the medical board.so will have to go through AMC mcq exam and then apply through either as a resident medical officer or a service registrar job and once you get into the system then after you have your general registration with AHPRA you can choose that path but to my knowledge there is no sub speciality training for doctors in particular but definitely there are degree courses in many universities on food and nutrition here

Akka ! I am a MO - Mental health /psychiatry from Srilanka with 3-4 yrs experience . 1)What types of job vacancies(RMO/Registrar ) available for a mental health doctor with that amount of experience ? 2)Will i be able to secure a job offer only with AMC part 1 and IELTS/OET? Thanks !
