I’m a Canadian Flight Attendant. People need to realize this is not a good paying Job. Year one pay for me was $28.25 an hour and my per diem is $3.60 an hour. You explain it perfectly, people don’t realize we don’t get paid when we walk into the airport…. We don’t get paid while we help you with your luggage. We don’t get paid while we have delays and this can be 4-6 hours some days depending on weather. This industry is in need of change.
@genten777 Жыл бұрын
Kyle: the pay may not be the best BUT have you seen the quality of boys and girls that the airlines are hiring now???? the quality has gone down tremendously compared to what the flight attendants used to be like in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I think that the pay could be the reason that higher educated and quality pretty boys and girls are simply not applying. The airlines however, know full well that the demand to become a flight attendant is so high that they can still get thousands of applicants for a few advertised flight attendant jobs . The airlines have no incentive to pay more when they can so readily and easily get so many applicants desperate to become flight attendants!! By the way your year one pay and per diem pay was damn good!!
@kyle910910 Жыл бұрын
@@genten777 while I don’t disagree with you, my hourly wage sounds decent however when you work 150+ hours a month and get paid for 75 that’s not good. Airlines also need to account for turn around, while flight attendants are much much much cheaper to train the pilots it still costs them lost of $$ to train flight attendants. If our pay was better they would have less turn around. My recommendation to anyone looking at becoming a flight attendant know what your getting into. While the perks are nice I can’t afford to use them lol

Mean that US airlines pay flight attendants only for block-time. There's much work before and a bit after, no wonder the service is often so crappy - what kind of service would you expect from crew only paid for time on the aircraft? Elsewhere, flight attendants are paid for block time, sign-in, sign-off and any other time while they are under the direction of the airline. High-time trips are great to $$$, but you need seniority to pick them up. The juniors are shafted, the over-50s make decent money, but nothing like what they make outside the US.

My airline helped people get loans through the credit union though. 4) you can and you get 1 companion that also can… some airline do charge their companions like $35 per flight though. But, you are, essentially, paid for those other hours as your hourly pay reflects the "down" time. Normally, a flight attendant wouldn't make $40 or $50 or $60 "real" dollars per hour - no offense meant here. The job isn't worth that hourly rate. So, the airlines are "baking" in the "down" time into the higher hourly rate. Moreover, there are other pay add ons, etc. For what you do (what I used to do), it's a decent paying job with lots of autonomy and flexibility. If you want high pay, be a lawyer/doctor/software developer, etc.

I’ve been with my fiancé for 4 years (we get married in 52 days!!) and I’ve been a flight attendant for 2 years of the 4. It works for us, because he comes with me sometimes, and he knows that I’m out working. So he will stay sometimes and help around the house while I’m gone, and he’ll do his work and whatnot. @christinehuotarim3 жыл бұрын
It probably depends on the airline but at mine the most likely way to drop a trip is by posting it on a trade board far in advance and hoping another flight attendant picks it up. You have the option to put the trip into the company trading system but its not super common for trips to be successfully dropped. At some airlines (even though its against the rules) flight attendants offer money for people to take their trips in desperate last minute situations or on holidays.
@ntmn84443 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes. You can drop your trip, or you can give it to someone else. You choose what days you want to work. But this, of course, is true only once you have a line. Most airlines (not delta) will put you on reserve for a bit. As you accumulate seniority and they add more lines, you’ll eventually get what we call a line, which is basically a set schedule. You’ll know ahead of time what trips you’ll be working, and you will have the ability to drop or pick up as she was saying.

it’s a flight, not a cruise.

@@ryan-1313 ---most of the airspeed during flight is 'crusing speed' anyhow, and at cruising altitudes, ain't it? ---so why not just call them 'Cruise deputies...they'd like it more. Everything is getting 'hip'per these days.

Going through the interview process right now. I'm a recently divorced dad of two and will be doing hybrid work model to make the financials work with Insurance + Flight Attendant. Do you know of anyone who is doing the same in the industry to make it work balancing half their time with family, a second job, and the second half with being a flight attendant?

Absolutely there are people who really do the most outside of their life as a flight attendant. I think it is doable but a good support system is so important and just be careful not to burn out

Because she's being professional. Shes not going to come out and say "I make $19.50 per hour" it's her personal, financial business. She told you the typical hourly wage is between $16-$30 an hour.

Plus depending on the airline it’s very different. Use her math and go google the pay of your airline you’re looking at!

Are you just "Flight Attendant" or do you have an actual name? Just a first name is fine. Good Vide!!! A lot learned... =)

AT WHAT YEAR DOES A FLIGHT ATTENDANT START MAKING OVER 100K A YEAR?? 13?
@TheDailyDeparture10 күн бұрын
It’s hard to say because it really can depend on how much you want to work, but if you are topped out on pay and work a lot you most likely can pull it off
