I have learned a lot from your tips. After the reroofing complete, should I hire someone else to check the quality of the roof? My thinking is once the roof is done, no one except the contractors know what are the materials and procedure being used? As a normal homeonwer, without any solid backgound in this field, how to control the quality of the work?

If you hire a local company with a good reputation, license, insurance, and years of experience that is the best way to control quality. Warranty will also give you peace of mind. Quality goes down when you start hiring the cheapest bid. Chuck with a truck that says he can do it for a lot less might cost you more in the long run. You can maybe hire someone to inspect the roof when it's done but the problem is, it is hard to find someone. The other issue is you can not see what's underneath the layer of shingle.

@@HHHRoofing Thanks for your reply. It is really helpful. I don't want to get the job done by the lowest bid. I am happy that good companies take the profits they want so they can last for years and serve the local. I just want to make sure the roof quality to be good.

Thank you. There are plenty of good brands out there and each contractor has their own preference. We like Owens Corning, Certainteed, Atlas, and Iko. A good resource is "Roofing Insights" they did a video on 2021 shingle comparison.

I'm sorry to hear that. That may be an issue with that one company. Usually a good company is more than happy to show you their brands. Try looking for a licensed roofer in your area or you can also look into "Roofing Insights Directory"

I live in Houston texas my house is two story 2800.sq feet but I don't know the roof my insurance is 7500 deductible would be worth it to make a claim if a roof is like 6 to 8k like u said

7,500 seems pretty high for a deductible. This video was recorded a while back, so prices have really changed. Right now without looking at your roof and just knowing what you said a replacement is going to be starting off around 9,500. That can go up if the size is bigger, if there is rotten plywood, 2 layers, high pitch, etc. Material has been going up for us every month now and next month in august we have another 8-12% increase. Prices of roofs have gone up dramatically this year and it's not going to go down anytime soon from the looks of it right now. It wouldn't be a bad idea to file an insurance claim if you do have storm damage. If the house is in Houston we can take a look at it and give you what think is best. Can a professional roofer submit an estimate to the insurance company?

Yes a roofer can submit an estimate/Xactimate. Your insurance provider is going to use a software called Xactimate to creat a itemized list and scope of work. The Xactimate/estimate your roofer creates will be the same as your insurance provider. All the prices are up to date for every roof component in Xactimate.
