How do you manage to get everything? Training, video recording, editing? Does KZbin take up a lot of your time? Or is it a way for you to rest and relax? You are amazing, I wish you luck on the way to the first ATP point, but that's just the beginning of your journey. My costs for my first ATP point were similar. In Serbia, training is cheaper, while in Australia, for example, I paid $ 100 for 1 hour of private training. In addition to great sacrifice, happy circumstances play a big role, which can raise your self-confidence to a higher level. I was not very lucky to continue after winning a couple of ATP points, and if I came to the ATP list young. Life and tennis experience, work habits, job of a tennis coach is invaluable. You definitely have a level much higher than 1 ATP point, just believe in yourself, and never give up on your goals.

Today was my first tournament of 2022. I won the first round 11-9 in the third saving 2 match points. I lose on the second round 12-10 in the tie break and in the second set I was having 5 match points. It was a painful lose. Good luck to your next tournament!

I played tennis for 8 years,I left it when I was 15,I played professional for 3 years,and I was always shocked about the amount of money my parents paid on me to play tennis,it really made me feel uncomfortable(especially shoes,strings and fuel),I remember when my mother and my grandmother drove me to the court and my grandmother that lived most of her life in a poor village in Morocco said that in her time tennis was only for the richest people and my mother answered that it is still only for the rich,I appreciate my parents so much for that they spent their time and their money for me to be happy,I wish you luck and waiting to see you in big tournaments

Hey bro! Having the same journey as you, keep it up! One advice I can give you, to not underestimate is to buy a stringing machine (I suggest pro stringer, maybe about 800/900€) and learn how to restring racquets by yourself! Gives you some kind of sense of responsibility but also, if you need some tension changes you can adapt by yourself the second after you step out of a training session, you can just do by yourself the calculation in how much time that money will “come back” to you. My son is 17 and he is also trying like you to get the 1st ATP pont ,we are staying in India in International community ,luckily we have to pay for the tennis court only 10$ per month and I'm couching him myself, so our expenses a much more less, tournament traveling and fees + hotel,can be from 100$ to 300$, 1racket stringing + strings~ 10$ . Here is no much sponsors even for the top players,and we are not Indian origin so it even more difficult. Traveling also can be very tough specialy on summer.Hope you will get 1 st point soon! Skills like how to be independent, how to overcome nervousness, commitment to a training schedule, getting up early, practicing all day when you don't want to. Played tennis just in the summer with friends Had my first tennis lesson at 27, first tournament at 32 got to 632 UK Open Men’s singles in my late 30’s. That level of investment and commitment from age 7 makes me think if I could have been pushing for an ATP point.

Excellent post! Great information! I am a little surprised that when itemizing your expenses, you didn’t include food. The food for an elite athlete is very expensive. Good point! We thought about including food - it's another factor. However we decided against that to not make it too detailed. As I normally would eat a LOT and healthy food ( if I would just be a sporty 18 year old ) we thought that we book this under general living costs...

I used to get coached by the former coach of Luis Horna and Jaime Izaga (both are peruvian ATP tennis players). When I asked him (my coach) how much did it really cost to form a pro tennis player, he told that in average, per year, you need to spend around 110 000 USD (that includes daily sessions of tennis training, travel costs, equipment, etc.). So, doing the math, if let's say that you want to start your pro tennis career at age 11-12, and assuming that you make it to the ATP circuit at age 17, that's around 5-6 years x 110 000 USD = 550 000 - 660 000 USD in total.

@@seiscero that might work. In Latin America, the best tennis (both in academies, tournaments and junior competition) is in Argentina. For example, Coria, Nalbandian and Pablo Cuevas used to train in an Argentinian academy near Uruguay. Of course in Latin America all expenses are in local currency (Peruvian Soles, Argentinian Pesos), so if you have savings in euros or USD then it will be cheaper for you to train in LATAM. However, junior argentinian players and all junior LATAM players who are competing in the juniors circuit (ITF, Futures), eventually end up traveling to North America and Europe to compete.

Here in California, private lessons are USD $60-$80 per hour, group lessons are $22-$30 per hour, & club fees are about $100 per month unless it’s public… then it’s about $10-$15 per hour of Court usage.

We were actually in the same draw once in the Boehner Cup or something in Dusseldorf, Germany. I think you even won that tournament a few years ago, I lost my first round match but still funny to think of it, cause I couldn’t be further away from making it pro and just play for fun non competitively these days and you’re hustling to get your first ATP point, which is massive. Hey mate, I think the channel is such a cool idea. I’m also on the hunt for an ATP point this year too. Training costs here in Australia are free if you’re in the national academy and even a lot of our travel interstate has been subsidised by Tennis Australia. I’d say my costs for this year (when I go overseas to play futures) would be significantly cheaper. If you go to a place like Tunisia or Turkey it is cheap as. Your best bet is to just go to one of the places with a mate and rent an apartment or Airbnb for a couple months and it’ll make it so much more affordable. Like only $200usd a month for a good place if sharing with mates. Then you’ve just gotta add transport on top of that which is pretty cheap anyway. Like I was thinking $1k a month not $5k. I started playing tennis when i was 14. So got only 1 year of U-14 . I couldnt afford to keep on playing tennis obviously because my family was not that rich but my dad did everything he could to provide me with the best gear. Spent good two years on the national circuit before i finally had to give up. Now i am working my ass off to save up atleast 500,000$ for my future son/daughter's career { if they happen to take up tennis }

You are correct - Talent is a big factor. At the extremes, look at the Williams sisters or Michael Chang, who won his first Grand Slam match at 15, his first tournament at 16, and a Slam at 17. Quite depressing info for regular people!

Great, honest video. It is sort of depressing to me that it costs a small fortune to even get a CHANCE at becoming an elite player. I suppose it is because tennis is so technique-heavy that you need tons of instruction compared to, say, American football or soccer or basketball. It's easy to see why working-class kids becoming tennis stars is exceedingly rare. I know you're estimating roughly here, but the cost would be significantly higher if you accounted for inflation. One dollar 10 years ago is about $1.20 today.

Yh for sure , it is crazy looking back at the numbers , but like I said you don’t need to spend this amount , this is just what I spent , it can be done for a lot less

Team sports can subsidise many of these costs in a way tennis doesn’t. For example in football ⚽️, clubs can have academies and train entire squads for free because if they can sell at least one of them, it will give profit to the club.

i guess you are familiar with the story of dustin brown, he was traveling along germany in a trailer and played futures and challangers i think. that cut the costs a lot. but yeah the first problem would be getting one in the first place and you have to be someone to be able to live on the road, which i don't know, if it is something for you, cause i discovered your channel yesterday. all that said, i hope you have success, but as far as i think, you are on a good way

Here in South Italy a one-to-one coaching costs 10€ per session(1 hour and half) and a group lesson costs about 7-8€ per session(2 hours)

Love the transparency man! How far off in your opinion are you off your goals?

It's definitely possible - the big hurdle is to get into the better tournaments. I need to make enough qualifications and possible wins to make it work. Getting this 1 ATP point is the very first hard part. I'm confident that I will have achieved that by October this year.

@@tennisbrothers How far off is the level of the LTA tournaments that you're playing in to the ITF tournaments (which I'm assuming you're shooting for?)
