Been building cars for a long time now. Just started a 80 series build. It's never cheap to build something 😂 but of course diy and your own capabilities are a big waying point. I've spent close to 5grand not including purchase of the 80 and I haven't even got to getting the motor in it 😅 but that's all part of the fun of building your own rig vs paying for someone else work 🤷

Very impressive budget. Well done. I love the DIY approach - building a car is as much fun as actually driving it IMO. It should be mentioned that the ute is now almost useless for anything other than hard core off-road roading. When the design is single minded you don't have spend on other normal things. If you had to build a 4x4 that could handle the same hard core tracks AND pick up a load of firewood / bricks / furniture AND take the kids to footy AND take the family camping AND tow a trailer AND be driven by the wife AND get good fuel economy etc etc etc ...then I think the budget would be higher because the vehicle would have to fill more roles....?
