I’m an American from Massachusetts and my wife is Brazilian and we are moving to Espírito Santo. She has family in São Gabriel, ES., which is where we’re building a home to grow old in. Beautiful town where our house will be in the most desired neighborhood in the city up on a nice beautiful view of mountains with a sunset every night. Also, in Espírito Santo, there are two twin cities Villa, Velha, and Vitória. Villa Velha is one of the best cities I’ve ever been to in my life, large skyscraper apartment buildings right next to a beautiful beach, and they have a mall that’s like the size of mall of America! It’s amazing I can’t wait to move!

Some solid info! I've been a permanent resident in Brazil for about a decade and traveling here for twice that long. New to your channel, so I'm not sure if you've covered this aspect of finances, but something that is essential for folks to learn and understand is how the financial systems work down here, particularly as it relates to the federal government, the Receita Federal (IRS in Brazil), your CPF and so forth. Even before one applies for a long term visa, it is crucial to understand all the implications of even providing your financial information from the US. Equally important is understanding all the implications of any financial transactions in Brazil. The laws in Brazil are very different than the US, even when it comes to personal financial transactions. So be careful. You can get hit with a significant Receita Federal bill (IRS bill) and not even understand why. At the very least, understand why it's probably better to use a Brazilian bank account only when necessary. It is necessary to have, but it should be used strategically, and necessarily to hold your reias. Don't forget, folks foreign residents in Brazil are legally required to file taxes in the US and Brazil. There are special IRS rules that apply Americans living abroad, but even income earned abroad is taxable in the US. There are offsets available, but you need to check out those rules because, likewise, you don't want to get hit with an IRS bill either. This is an area that I really haven't seen folks cover in detail in their videos. I somewhat understand, because it can get complicated and involved. Nonetheless, it has significant financial implications, so I urge folks to educate themselves about this area BEFORE applying for a long term visa. However, to borrow a phrase, if you got endless paper and don't mind pay taxes in two different countries, then you can ignore everything I've said.

Thank you very much for this information sir. I will definitely do the research, and if I have any questions whether it is months or years from now, I will be commenting here. I am seriously thinking about relocating to Brazil if possible once I get my student loans forgiven. Living is the U.S. right now is not where it is in my opinion. Everything is absurdly overpriced. Rather takes my chances somewhere else. And I do understand every place has its positives and negatives. 🙏🏾

This life operates under the assumption that you are not in formal retirement and that you maintain remote work for income. Unless you are going there or anywhere with a mound of savings/investments,...then earning income online I think would be necessary...common sense. So, $15,000 in setup costs...what about monthly expenses once you are set up / cost of living. Thanks.
@RockyinReelTime
@RockyinReelTime 5 ай бұрын
It largely depends on the lifestyle you want to live. You can live pretty good on $1000-$1500 per month alone in most places. I made a video about this, please feel free to watch it 😃. In it I detail how I lived on $1K as a single person here. Also in the video, I didn’t account for having a car as I haven’t got one in Brazil yet, but this will add only a couple hundred more $ max. I’m not sure if you’re alone but if you are and retired, $1500 is the minimum I’d say you should be living off of here

Hello. I'm 41, currently live in and am from Atlanta, Georgia; US. I have a very good, very close friend who lives in Juiz de Fora in the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil. My goal is to move to Brazil, either to Juiz de Fora or Belo Horizonte. For now and therefore preferably, Juiz de Fora. For now, I would be wanting a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment in Juiz de Fora. Fyi, I don't drive, am disabled (therefore I get social security each month; I know Brazil has social security; however, I don't know how all of it works) and I don't work. My goal if altogether possible is to move to Brazil in either late 2024 or in 2025. I went and met my friend for the first time this past October...I loved every moment of my 12 day odyssey!!!! I actually did not want to return to The States. If ANYONE has any advice, information, suggestions, help, etc they can tell me, I'd be greatly appreciative. Muito obrigado!!!!

Yeah man......Brazil is not for beginners 😂 people think because they went to Columbia it's the same thing but it's not. There's a lot more red tape in Brazil. Without a CPF number you can't do anything. Now....here is my question. What's the plan now that Brazil has made a deal with China to get on there currency which makes the US dollar almost worthless in Brazil? Nobody seems to answer that question on these videos. I was in the midst of getting my digital nomad visa and then I lost my job and as I tried to get a new one that happened so it's sad because it seems like I'm going to have to give up on that dream cuz it won't be able to afford to live there
@RockyinReelTime
@RockyinReelTime 10 ай бұрын
The world still relies heavily on the US dollar and that shift won't happen for a while. I think the next decade or two it's still a safe bet to use geo arbitrage to live here. Also as long as you make at least $1800/mo online and can prove this, Brazi lwill give you the digital nomad visa or you must have $18,000 in savings

@RockyinReelTime Жыл бұрын
I think you have a typo and what I'm grabbing is how much does an apartment go for a month ? If that's the question, it depends a lot on area and amenities included. But usually $550 on the low end to $1000/ mo on the high end. Like I said it all depends on area and amenities. Barra, Ondina, Vitoria will be more expensive neighborhoods as opposed to Pituba or Federaçao or Rio Vermelho. As for amenities balconies, 24h gateman, w/d, air conditioned, nicely furnished, work station etc will all come at a higher prices

I'm an American Citizen already in Brazil. I will stay in Brazil past April 10,2024 until about May 15. I wish to extend my stay past the initial 90 days. Question is: When does the Visa start counting my new 90 day period (assuming I'm approved). Will the new 90-day period begin at the end of my initial 90 day period...or... will my new 90 days start the day I am approved? I'd like to do 90 days, not leave the country, and start a new 90 days with the new eVisa I will ideally acquire. Advise? Experience with this? PS: With all due respect, the Brazilian government website is trash, at best. It is always out of service or out of date. That is why I am asking you kind folks. Thanks.

What do you do to buy electronics in Brazil since it's insanely expensive there? For instance your 2 monitors, your Shure microphone and your phone are probably close to twice the price in Brazil. Did you buy them in the US and bring them in the flight? I know some Brazilians go to Paraguay to buy electronics. I am trying to buy here in Europe before I move in Brazil at the end of the year but it's annoying to know that I won't be able to buy anything there at a fair price.

I found the immigration section of this video hilarious. I understand Rocky is trying, and I am not being critical. I just find it funny. Firstly, one doesn't need to go back to USA to get the source documents issued, including the FBI report. Secondly, only an FBI report is required (a local/state police report is noto required). The 'long form' birth certificate that Rocky refers to is required to include the persons parents. Apostilling is required. The methods for apostilling is: birth certificate (apostilled in the state of issue). FBI report (apostilled by the federal govt). The above (BC and FBI) are the core documents for any residency application. But, this is only half the story. The other half is that depending on the residency type the person will need more/supporting documents. As an example, if a person applies for student residency then they will also need a certificate of enrolment. Retirement residency? then add verification of genuine retirement and verification that you have the ability to transfer $2000 per month. Family reunion? then add verification of marriage, or birth certificate if a child, etc etc etc. Essentially: The birth certificate and FBI report are required for ALL residency applications, and then add the supporting documents. In summary, there is a LOT more to it than what is described. Again, not being critical. I just think its funny/hilarious. Source: I live in Sao Paulo and work with inbound immigration.
@RockyinReelTime
@RockyinReelTime 8 ай бұрын
So you said “I am not being critical” then proceeded to criticize that entire part of the video. If you go back and watch it, I CLEARLY say I got a permanent residency visa. Anyone with half a brain and understands context will know I wasn’t talking about a student, retiree or investment visa OR I would’ve specified. Also those are the documents that I was asked to get by the visa processing office in São Paulo. I also learned from some of my subscribers that have moved here as well that the process and documents required is highly dependent on the office and who you get to process your visa. Of course there are mandatory visa documents that are requirements no matter what visa you get but they may ask for other things depending on the case. Two people from the same country could be asked for the required docs but one may be asked to get additional documents that the other wasn’t. All of the documents I mentioned are literally on a list that was given to me to go and obtain by the visa office IN BRAZIL. Even Brazilian lawyers that specialize in this type of law have said “it’s a lengthy, bureaucratic process” (Source koetz.digital/permanent-residence-visa-for-foreigners-in-brazil/). You then proceed to agree with me that the Long Form BC and the FBI background check are indeed needed for the process then say “depending on the residency type the person will need more/supporting documents” … Which I went on to list those supporting documents for my type of residency which is the permanent residency. They asked me to include documents that prove I could support myself and I did. Also you genius, this isn’t a video about “How to get a visas in Brazil”, the title is LITERALLY “How Much Does It Cost to Move To Brazil” and I factored in how much I paid for the documents to process my permanent residency visa AS WELL AS the supporting documents that you’re speaking about which were a proof of address, bank statement and a local background check. Why do you think I would need to elaborate on that process when that isn’t the topic of the video ? The only thing I will give you is that you don’t need to go back to the States to get an FBI background check. I looked it up and it seems you don’t, however because you’re in the States, it is much easier to get, especially since some agencies do things in front of you like the apostilling and your documents won’t sit in some mail room or email until someone gets to it. So you just came on a video to disagree for the sake of it, I clearly said I got a permanent residency visa AND THEN listed the documents that I was asked for including the supporting documents. What was the point of this sentence ? “The 'long form' birth certificate that Rocky refers to is required to include the persons parents” Whatever reason that YOU or your office need to see an apostilled long form BC is irrelevant if it’s a REQUIRED. You think some gringo is gonna ask why YOUR govt requires a certain document or just go and get it ?? I need you to think !! Another redundant and irrelevant sentence : “Apostilling is required. The methods for apostilling is: birth certificate (apostilled in the state of issue). FBI report (apostilled by the federal govt).” Again I’m detailing the expenses I incurred to move to Brazil, that’s the topic of the video. I do not need to go on and ramble about something else, this was an already 27 min video BUT I then proceed to say to apostle any document in New York (where I’m from) to go to the local government office and apostille any document is $10 at the time I got it and went further to say I can’t speak for other states but it should be similar, which it is, some a bit less like $7 or more like $15. I know this because I say a list detailing this on a gov website. So essentially you’re coming on my video and telling me what I should have said or elaborated on about a topic that isn’t related to the video, then agreeing with me on what I said in the video about said topic. Please tell me in what universe that makes sense

@ke6971 Do you even understand YOUR comment and how it makes no sense in the context of my video? You can't even explain in two sentences what I said was that was wrong, you literally agreed. Again this is NOT a video on VISAS but EXPENSES related to moving to Brazil which I detailed. Part of these expenses are documents that I had to get for the permanent residency visa. I never said I was a student, investor or retiree so any nitwit would know what type of visa I'm referring to. YOU clearly don't understand the topic of the video or else you wouldn't have made such a nonsensical comment that is trying to discredit me but then say "I'm not trying to be critical" then adding that you work in the outbound immigration office to give your comment legitimacy over what I said. For a one bedroom downtown w/ a balcony 400-750. Depends on a lot though, São Paulo is a lot more expensive than other regions and Recife is the cheaper city in the NE. Keeping them short comes at the opportunity cost of leaving something out that needs to be explained that I’ll have to answer in the form of the same question over and over (which happens a lot). I’ll add chapters to my future videos so people can skip to the parts that they need to see. But 2 minutes is a gross over-exaggeration as other people might want a in depth explanation. 7-15 mins is more realistic
