Have you been brave enough to work out how much your horses cost you each month?

Great video. Another thing to watch for with insurance is that many things can be excluded on the policy depending on your horses' past history and any claims you make. For example I know someone who made a claim for a one off eye infection, now ANYTHING to do with eyes is excluded!
@KarenBadrick1
@KarenBadrick1 9 ай бұрын
Thank you YES!! I find Insurance companies seem to exclude lots of things after a claim so then your left wondering why your paying a higher premium for less cover, they will also try and get out of paying some fees, My horses will always see a vet whenever they need to regardless of the price but I will just pay out of my pocket x

Love your honesty Karen. And showing how to keep horses on a budget....your yard is a bargain. But lots of work for you. You dont need a big posh yard. The most important thing is you know how to look after , ride, produce and Show your welshies to a very high standard. You love your horses so much. The bond is clear to see. Your so knowledgeable. Great mum. Wonderful family and Steve... Happy New Year Karen , family , horses pets. Love your video's...you are such a lovely person.❤❤

You are far braver than I. I don't even want to think about how much my horses cost. My horses aren't insured either. I am in Australia where insuring your horse for vet bills isn't a thing. However, I do have access to funds for vet bills.

Haha when I was asked if I would make this video I did wonder if I actually wanted to know the true cost 😂 Oh wow I didn’t know insurance for vets fees wasn’t really a thing in Australia, it’s very big here in the UK but then the insurance companies have so many clauses to try to not to pay out anyway I just dont think it’s worth it x

Blooming bargain monthly rent. But when you add in cost of maintenance that the landowner isn't paying it adds up especially when paying 1000 for tree Your yard is what you make it, doesn't need to be posh. You could probably buy a pump for water if close to river/brook
@KarenBadrick1

It is interesting to know what different people pay for their horses - I have 4acres at home, 3 stables and an arena with lights - there is nearly always something needs doing - I feed hay all year round 10 bales a fortnight = $140 feed I feed very basic hard feeds twice a day plus vit and min and chaff - your feed is very cheap ! My farrier comes every 5 weeks and costs $300 for 2 full sets - I don’t use insurance either.

You were very open and honest Karen. Bless you for that. Horses are very expensive. I am fortunate that I have 6 acres and 5 stables. I put in a school as my land is sloping. It's a godsend. Your straw is cheap. I pay 45. One is on shavings. I feed molasses free sugar beet, it's 11.00. It's the soak over night pellets. I don't feed in summer, and don't feed haylage in the summer. I end up with too much grass.. They stand in most of the day on a small section of hay, as they all get so fat . Like you, none are insured, but I can pay any bills if needed. My ISH has mild arthritis in his fronts so has heart bar shoes with graduated heels. 140.00 a set!! Trims are 30...Eeek I making myself ill just thinking about it. 😢

Thank you, I want to be open and honest about all aspects of horse ownership on this channel, Luckily i have known my farmer since school, he is a good friend of ours so we do get some perks from that, Yes i used to feed the soak over night sugar beet as it was cheaper but now there is not much price difference so i just go for the ease of 10min soaking now. Cor blimey the cost of shoes have gone up so much, i remember when a trim was about £10 😂 xx

Hiya Does your local tack shop have a notice board? Your local shows may put there dates up on the notice board, or leave schedules at the tack shop. Local shows don’t usually start till about may time so keep and eye out at the tack shop Welsh can go into the mountain and Moorland (M&M) class, in hand or ridden, I do have videos on here on how to show in hand for beginners and how to do a ridden show for beginners. Watch hours is a struggle, just keep making videos and it will come. At the moment people don’t know who you are but keep posting long videos and they will then want to see your journey, Watch hours is like a snowball, starts off small then gets bigger, at the moment you may only be getting 4hrs a day but give it time and you will then get 20hrs a day xx
