Brilliant, thanks for sharing this. My wife and I are thinking about a first boat having moved to Chichester this year. I found this video really interesting.

I used to be moored on the Hamble with a boat the same size. I now have my boat at home on the trailer and have always maintained it myself. Just the saving on mooring costs pays for 2 years fuel 😮

Hi mate, I’m so glad you’ve started this channel! I’ve always wanted my own boat even though I’ve never been on one! I’m a keen fisherman and would love to start sea fishing! I’ve really no idea where to start and have so many questions! Keep the videos coming, I know you’ll have plenty of subs in near future! I’d love to come and spend and hour or so with you, maybe a little ride out to get a feel for it 🙏🏻

@@langersboating474 I’m always out carp fishing but I wanna broaden my horizons and fish on open water! I live in the midlands and I’ve no idea where to even start in terms of getting to my nearest marina etc it’s at least a couple of hours drive to wales and over 3 hours to the south coast! It may not be cost effective being so far away

You keep popping up on my recommendations. Really interesting breakdown of costs. Have you any idea (from this one or previous boats) how much maintenance costs are annually?
@langersboating4742 жыл бұрын
Hey , thanks for that , the boat has a diesel d3 Volvo penta engine , for maintenance we always service our boats once a year which can cost anywhere from 700-1000 pounds dependant on where you take it , hope that helps

Bottom line. My Piper PA38 Tomahawk aircraft at $195oo cost me less and at about 100 Kts I can go a lot farther. Anti fouling ? what's that ?.

Depreciation also a factor, but not so much if you pick up a used boat at a good price. As an example, Broom Ocean 37s seemed to bottom out at about 45k, twenty years ago, and are now worth pretty much the same. At the other end of the scale, if you've just paid 750k for something flashy, and it will be worth half that in ten years, that's 3k per month just in depreciation. Add all the other costs, and you discover that you're hemorrhaging five hundred pounds an hour every time you take it out. Nearly nodded off for a moment.
@langersboating4742 жыл бұрын
That’s the great thing with boats is the depreciation seems to stop after so long and then steadies out or sometimes creeps back up

I want to get a boat in the future and live in Southampton - are there pros and cons to mooring on the Itchen or the Hamble?

11 litres per hour, at what speed? At displacement speeds ie pottering about the river I would have thought it would be more economical than that - well I hope so anyway, as I've just got one! I know at WOT it can be as high as 45lph

@@langersboating474 Same as you. 655 with D3-110. I potter round at 6-8 knots, so hopefully I'll get better figures than you. Only had it a week, hence discovering your channel and videos. BTW, where does the cabin table stow? Doesn't look to be space in the toilet anywhere...
