Very helpful thanks! I reupholstered my entire suite myself teaching myself by taking it apart and reupholstering .....2 chairs need to be done again now but I must replace zigzag springs and sponge etc this time ...how do I calculate the amount of sponge etc needed please....is it the same as the calculation of the fabric? Your help will be much appreciated! 😊

That is really getting into the weeds. You need to know how thick of foam each part of the sofa has (needs) and then to calculate the square footage or overall dimensions using each thickness of foam. For instance most arms are between 1/2" to 3" foam, seat are typically 4-7" foam, backs are 1-3" foam, decks are 1/2" foam, etc. So when you take it apart just be careful to look at the thickness (based on the middle of the foam somewhere instead of an edge and you'll get the right idea.

I have been searching for someone to make a large drum lamp shade. I figured if someone can upholster furniture a lampshade would be a breeze, but no luck. I have a large chandelier in my small foyer to make a big impact. All of my open plan fixtures have drum shades and I need one to sit in the middle of my chandelier. I would attempt it myself, but no one carrys 30 inch rings. Any suggestions?

I would suggest reaching out to a local upholstery shop. That is for sure possible but is going to be more on the custom side of things. You could also reach out to a lamp shade or light fixture company. There are places that specialize in exactly the kind of thing you're looking for.

Do you recommend doing Fabric on your own, at home? So, if I want on-line to buy fabric, I assume I owed need too measuring , cutting, and fitting skills to do this on my own without any experience? Sewing skills, no? Or is more complex than this, which I think it would be, but am not sure about. I can take a picture of my Chair...it unfortunately has Mold/Mildew which I think is embedded into the foam or straw itself. It seems like a classic chair. Any help is appreciated before I strip, replace, or throw this out--which is what I never want to do! Thank you

You're getting into some of the details of how to to do the actual project. That is a question of how handy you are, what tools you have, and how complex your piece is. Some chairs don't require sewing and just need to be pulled and stapled. This video can give you an idea of what can be entailed in such a project: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX_Oo2aheN2hiKM&ab_channel=CreatewithCraftsman

Can I do it myself as a beginner? I got my hands on an old Victorian sofa but it smells.

Sure thing. Check out our chair video-- should be similar for an entire sofa and it goes through each step. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX_Oo2aheN2hiKM&ab_channel=CreatewithCraftsman
