Barbara Colby (Lilly LaSanka) was herself a murder victim. She was murdered on July 24, 1975, along with James Kiernan, while returning to their parked cars after teaching an acting class. Their murderers were never caught and case is still unsolved. She was the first of two Colombo murder victims to be later murdered in real life. The other is Sal Mineo, who appeared in A Case of Immunity.

The way Jack Cassidy says that last line -- "Whoever thought that idiot would write it down?" -- reminds me so much of Jackie Gleason, I'd almost believe he was doing an impression or homage. That dry, very droll, side-mouthed delivery of the line while looking slyly to one side is sooooo Gleason.

08:57 ... Columbo overall figured out the whole case, but the point about the book signing is kind of weak tea. People autograph items all the time "with all my love, etc" all the time and they don't really know the person very well at all, when people make autograph requests and ask for specific language in the autograph.

Bit of a flaw in story logic here. With Jack Cassidy proud of his “perfect alibi” for a murder story, and living in his partner’s shadow, he would have insisted it be used for an upcoming novel-and since the partner wrote it down, he would have been keen on the idea of using it sooner rather than later.

Men weren't spared a slap upside the cheek and even Columbo narrowly missed being slapped across the face by a bratty teenager who'd already slapped her mom across the face but Columbo was quick to raise his arm just in time to ward it off...it must have been trending in the 70's, lol!🖐🖐🖐🖐🖐🖐👀

But having a good idea for a murder story isn’t the same as writing the story itself. Jim might’ve decided against writing the story. And since Ken wasn’t really a writer, but a sociopath, he probably decided the best use of the plot was to carry it out against Jim.
