Hi Jeremy - I just lost my sister-in-law to pancreatic cancer. She went from being healthy to leaving us in just 6 months. Even though we should have been prepared it was no less jarring. It still stings but I know she’s in a better place. My sincerest sympathy and prayers - may God hold you and your family in the palm of his hand as you say goodbye.

First, prayers continue. For me, the sycamore top remains the story-mystery here. That’s a hardwood top sound, which with nickel means clarity and all-strings balance. And that’s YOUR sound. Carry on.

Loving my little brother Showalter Custom 00, same top and back and sides. Mine has a French polish finish and may have a bit more volume for its size.

Wow, it’s already been a year?! I noticed the bridge has darkened up a bit. It was much brighter at the start. It really was a great idea to use because it’s now picking up on the golden undertones of the top and sides. So when will you do another project with SW Guitars? Doesn’t even have to be an entire guitar. Could be accessories like a stand, pick guard, or even another guitar wall hanger. I miss you guys on camera together. It was tons of fun to watch you both work and learn. Think about it! I’m so glad the guitar is opening up more, and it’s getting better with time. It’s a beautiful piece for sure. I’m very sorry for your loss. That’s a beautiful thing to bring this guitar in memory and honor of your family member who enjoyed it just after it was made.

That was a great series watching you build that guitar. Glad it’s held up so well!! Interestingly I was doing a gig recently and my friend, who also watches your channel, told me he ordered a Showalter Baritone which he loves. We had a great conversation about your channel and told him I got my Furch by learning about them on your channel! You are making a difference in the guitar playing world!! Prayers for your loss🙏 Lastly, I am a performing and recording singer-songwriter and I thought your singing at the end was really beautiful, heartfelt and deeply moving Jeremy! Would love to hear more!

I watched the ENTIRE process of you making this guitar and I was riveted. I've wanted to build my own guitar for years but don't have the resource. So I enjoyed watching you Jeremy. After a year, my goodness, it sounds so good and to see how it looks now, my gosh. Thank you Jeremy!

Sorry to hear of your father in law's passing. I remember watching your video about building that guitar. I grew up in and around the valley. Osage Orange fences made of live trees were as common as limestone walls. I never considered that as a guitar tonewood. I'm so glad that it turned out so well. Condolences to you and your family.

Why does it always have to be mahogany, rosewood and spruce? The sycamore top looks great, Osage orange is incredible how it's changing. Please show before and after of that sometime. I was there and his local wood guitars sound great. Steve Showalter is really on to something!

Sorry for your loss and well done on the song. The mistake you made on the guitar is of no consequence except to you. When you make something , you always see things you could have done better and , in this case, the VA overlay was genius and makes it special. It will be interesting to hear the tone in a couple more years.

First Jeremy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it's hard. It's interesting how this guitar has become a part of that story, and how you use it in this family situation. I know it's hard to lose loved ones and family members, and music can so much be a part of dealing with that loss. And it's wonderful how it can be used as an instrument of praise. That's so great. As I understand, quarter sawn has to do with the grain, and in a top the grain is very narrow, and it's basically a very close vertical grain, It would be ,like cutting the piece right through the middle of the tree, getting the grain as close as possible, so that the wood is more stable. Flat sawn as I understand would be like sawing across the further out parts of the tree, so the grain is at more of an angle across the wood, rather than a tight vertical. BTW, your series on the Showalter guitars and building this guitar is one I watched closely because I was very much getting ready to build my first acoustic that isn't just a mostly built kit. I'm now very close to done with it, and your video series with Steve and Showalter Guitars is a significant source of information that I used in the library of my mind to build and set up the guitar. Now mine isn't as raw a build as yours, as I bought pre-bent sides (on clearance) of rosewood and used some Sitka spruce I purchased, but even the choice of sycamore is influencing what I'm thinking about with future builds. I'm now putting the finish on it, so hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be ready to put it completely back together and play it.

The top on that guitar looks beautiful with that year on it. That was a beautiful tribute to your mother-in-law, Jeremy. That's a song I'm going to have to learn. I think a lot of us watching will. My deepest condolences to your wife, you, and all the family and friends.

What a terrific episode. This is indeed a special guitar… you built it yourself, and it’s been there for you through some really difficult times. What more could you ask for in an instrument? Not to mention that it’s an exceptionally lovely guitar. The “patch” was truly a clever idea! You turned a mistake into a feature, and a very nice one at that. For what it’s worth, my only build experience was with a McSpadden dulcimer kit, which looks flawless until you turn it over and notice the sand-through on the lower bout. But it does sound nice. 😊
