John brought over a lager this week with too many hops... How???
John had a large amount of homegrown hops from last year in his freezer. He had bag of hops like Magnum, Cascade and Mt. Hood. He wanted to clear out his freezer and added over a pound of whole cone hops for a 60 min boil.
The beer he brewed was a Pilsner styled beer. All Pilsner Malt and White Labs WLP830 German Lager Yeast. By all measures, it should be a decent Pilsner. With all the hops added at 60 minutes, this beer did not have a tremendous aroma, but seemed pretty much like a Pilsner.
However; once you tasted it, the hops really came out. It had a firm bitterness on first sip. In the aftertaste, that bitterness stuck with you and became more and more intense as the beer flavor itself fades away. The more you drank the more the bitterness built on the palate.
Not sure if this was "Too Many Hops". But it certainly was fun to try it.

Cheers!
