I'm a Marten Driver I'm grossing about $7500 a month. Ive been here since Nov 2022 and I run a dedicated Regional Hazmat route. I got a $1000 sign on bonus my first week. I got a $1000 hazmat bonus after 90 days of driving hazmat and I get a $10,000 bonus spred over 10 months for the Hazmat contract I'm on. I also have a guaranteed minimum weekly pay of $1500 as long as I run for 2 weeks out and perform basic requirements. I'm set to hit $90k this year. I've had my CDL for about 18 months.

@@Clos0528 that's awesome you work for Marten now or you're applying? You gotta have hazmat and tanker endorsement. They'll reimburse you if you don't already have it. I also have a TWIC card though I don't do ports. But it helps with the background check.

Per dorm can only be 19 cpm max legally. Something doesn’t add up on those checks. It says he makes over $1 a mile too. I have per diem if I get $1500 they still take out $400 at that level you are in a higher tax bracket but as long as you don’t make that every week you get a lot back. $800 check is still almost $100 in taxes with per diem. I think he’s getting a hiring bonus or something in pay but still doesn’t explain how they only take $100 in taxes on a $1500 check.

I'm local in Michigan and I'm averaging $1500 a week . To me I think that's well worth not having to deal with OTR . I get to go home every evening for 12hrs and also get both Saturday and Sunday off not just 36 hr reset. So I'm living great . I'd happily pay a couple hundred to get to stay home every night instead of being stuck I. That sleeper. Too much bs on the road. I don't even have to drive as much. I got full benefits and I'm with the union so ya life is good. I have my family which is 5 kids at home and my wife so I ain't missing seeing them grow and all that hood stuff. People think u can't make good money doin local but even before this company I was doin Sysco and I was getting $1800 checks a week from them. But with them I was working 12 to 16 hrs for sure every day and it can be very stressful at first. It wasn't for me. I have a low cost of living also so I don't need huge paychecks to live comfortably. I own a nice home in a suburb area and only pay $450 a month and that with taxes and insurance included. So u can see how much I'm saving compared to renting for over 1000 now.

I've been thinking about going to Marten Transport for the Walmart account. I currently drive for Ruan locally, home everyday and off on the wknds. Lately its too much b.s. going on and I wanna make a move. My only concern is the cpm. I make more where I'm at than what Marten pays.

Ruan.....haha.....I just left them too. They don't pay that well either, it's not a bad company, but man do they not understand simple things like driver appreciation and good pay......I am at JB Hunt now, but shoot, it's basically Ruan 2.0 over here. I am looking at marten too, but I will have to be out longer, but from what I am seeing, the pay and driver appreciation and schedule seems to be much better at marten. Also better trucks too!

I went to Ruan because I would be out on the road with my previous company (Werner) and both of my parents were having health issues. At the time, the home daily/wknds off Ruan job fit my needs. Being at Ruan for a yr and a half, I'm ready to get up outta there. Marten is definitely gonna be my next move. And they have much better trucks than Ruan.

Yes we get paid for the orientation you just need 4 months experience to start

They don't pay for CDL school and do NOT hire right out of CDL school. They require 6 months of CDL driving experience. They might reimburse for school as some companies do, but those companies are usually only starter companies like Swift, Warner, Schneider ect. Marten does NOT have trainers that train new unexperienced drivers. In other words, you will need to get your CDL through a school or another company and also have at least 6 months of CDL OTR or regional driving experience first.
