I owned a Subway Franchise back in 2008-2010 and I can concur with everything that you stated. If you own a store that makes under 7k in weekly sales you will never ever make any money only owning one store. I remember back in the day the Subway royalty was 8% plus an extra 5% for advertising. You basically have to own 3 to 4 above average stores (7K + in weekly sales) to make any substantial amount of money. Good luck my man and I feel for ya. My family was stuck in that horrible business for over 10+ years and we made absolutely zero amount of money at the end of it all.......

I was close to opening up a Jersey Mike's in 2014 until I realized that I could just open an independent one that I had 100% control over without having to pay any royalties or ridiculous franchise fees. I don't know how Subway's franchisee model works, but I would say get out of that contract as soon as you can and just go independent. You can make a lot more. I do about $10K/week during the summer months and the that drops to about $5K/week during the winter months which make it difficult to find good employees. But if you're doing $5.7K/week, you need to drop that labor cost in half. Labor cost is usually the biggest profit eater in any business, especially in food. Good luck to you.

Yes you need to extort over 50 underpaid workers in order to be successful with this business model. Just think of it like this. If you have 50 employees and pay them minimum wage( yes even $20/hr) you will still be profiting at least $3-$4/hr off each of them. $150-$200/hr for just writing checks. Sounds like extortion to me. Now this is the type of business owner this country needs. A man who gets down in the trenches and works. Infinite respect to you. Hope you get some more $$$ in your pocket soon.

Thank you for sharing your numbers. I have been self-employed for over 40 years and feel your pain. There was a study done on Subway many years ago. The owners end up making minimum wage if lucky! You are actually paying for all the A-listers they hire for the commercials. I am surprised they have not been sued for their unfair practices. With that said, I must add, you seem like a hard working person and a risk-taker. There will be other opportunities for you. The universe will always answer...... Keep up the fight my young brother ... God bless.

You know, great video! It was so random from the KZbin gods/algorithm that you got this here. I love the transparency! Also hope you do very well in the near future, you got this! (EDIT: added last sentence)

I hope you make it. Back in the 90s I dragged my father and I to attend a subway seminar about 4hrs away. Subway was the fastest growing franchise at the time. We visited many subways and sat outside and counted patrons. After about a month of DD we came to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to buy me a job. ROI wasn’t there for me and it appears based on this video that it still isn’t there. But OP I wish you the best and if you were in TX I would patronize you.

Your electricity cost could be lower, I think. Sometimes older lamps use more energy. New LED fixtures and bulbs saved me hundreds each month at my business.
