Is this typical for a Bombay college kid nowadays? When I was in college in Bombay, I was stuck in a hostel where I cooked the food which I didn't get to eat and I ended up surviving on wada pavs and ragda patties. Total food expenditure per day rarely rose above Rs. 15 coz that's all I could afford. Had to mooch off my college friends who lived at home and brought tiffins. Travel was with a second class local pass provided by the college and Rs. 6 for the bus ticket to get to the station. Or was it Rs. 5 🤔. Five bucks sharing an auto with five other people if I missed the bus or it didn't arrive on time. Then another long trek from the train station to the college. Getting lifts if I was with my friend Rushabh who was seriously amazing at getting lifts. He got us lifts from garbage trucks, cement mixers, and once even a taxi for free 🤪. My father moved me to someone's house in my second year and gave me Sodexho coupons that he was issued with (Sodexho was a new thing back then) so then my diet consisted of mostly McDonald's (which was the ONLY place nearby that accepted Sodexho) and cold dinners left for me by the family I stayed with. It wasn't until third year when I got a job and a bike that I actually started living on my own in an apartment like you do now. Heck of a time... nobody seems to believe how much I struggled to fill my belly considering how fat and spoiled I appear to be now 🤷.
