Factory lowered, short throw shifter, a numbered car. Special paint, low miles... someone did VERY good on this buy,,, I'd say he not only won't lose a dime but when the person decides to resale he will get more than he paid. Excellent car for the money without a doubt. Someone really dropped the ball as far as the right person/people obviously were not present at this auction. Can't say it enough,.,.,. Excellent buy right there

Thanks, very helpful. I bought this version 6 months ago, #779. it was as you mentioned a garaged "collector" for about 7 years, lightly maintained. IMS, RMS and trans all done 15K miles ago. Got it for $10K from a widow, she did not know about the 550 moniker, just wanted it gone. Doing all the deep maintenance, it is indeed tons o' fun to drive here in the Colorado foothills, excellent torque and handling with subtle tuned exhaust growl. Nice to know it is worth a tad more than I paid! Wimmen don't notice it much, but old guys frequently chase me down to ask about it. As an old Porsche ad once said" just keep the RPMs above 5000 so you can't hear your passengers screaming...."

Maintain and drive on open roads for 2 or 3 years, then sell it in the U.K., where they go for a lot more. Use that $ for a used 718. Assuming we can still drive petrol fired cars...@@bidnerds

Interesting view on the 550 Boxster. They did a little more than just badge it up, I know not a lot but enough to make the car better in every way than a normal Boxster S. Engine a little more power, short shift gearbox, lower and wider and more, these little changes added a little more then just a badge update. They made it a very special little Boxster and something that was perfect to round off the 986.

Good point!! I myself think the person that bought the car got an incredible deal.. (edit) I think like you are saying, no one really knows or at least these people don't, what that car actually is or has in the way of how special it is so kinda doesn't surprise me as much as originally the end price. But those who know should know that that is a very special car and will in the future bring more money than it did this time around

When I did the plugs and coils on mine noticed it is a 996 version.

Different front and rear fascia, exclusive colour, sport exhaust with unique exhaust tip, lowered suspension, full leather, short shifter, limited production, and more power qualifies as special edition in my opinion. Probably not appreciably better than an 'S,' but they apparently already carry a premium in Europe. I'll bet the prices double within 10 years. Love this car and would be proud to have one in my garage.

@@Texasslim57 A real nice example was for sale all of last summer here in Canada for $36K with 65K KMS 6spd.. I ended up buying a 2009 Boxster S. I've been watching to see if it comes back up for sale, but no luck so far.

Porsche also modified the shifter and gave it a short shift kit to enhance the driving the experience for these models. One just sold on BaT (August) for 24k with 33k miles on it and IMS bearing upgrade. Mid 20's is the right buy for these cars with low miles, IMO.

@@bidnerds Again wouldn't pay more than 25k with low miles and excellent condition ...don't forget the little boost in power and tighter suspension. To be honest, I miss my 02' Boxster S everyday. Great cars.
