Been through a pretty rough time lately, these two dudes kinda cheer me up all the time. I had some pretty big projects like a tank bike (Dnepr frame sawed in half and built around a 800cc inline two cylinder kawasaki engine with a mini excavator track instead of a back tire) all that came to a halt due to two cases of cancer in my family. These videos kinda always remember me that one day I will get back to work on these silly projects. I just want to say thank you guys, even if you probably won't read it.

I was just waiting around to die, seriously. I quit driving, quit going anywhere, then, I stumbled onto the video where you bought this and rode it home. Then I saw Matt Walksler rebuild it like he could do it in his sleep. I thought "I can do that." This was August of 2022. I kept trying to avoid getting my license, so I went gas powered bicycle. It was crap. I saw a new electric bike for $2,000. I can save $500 each month. Then I screwed up. Went to facebook market place and saw used Sportsters for as cheap as $2,500. I bought a '95 with a 1250 big bore kit. I have to plan a rode trip next year from Oregon to Maggie Valley and tell Matt "Thanks". And it all started with you. I feel like Dale Walksler saved my life, even after he had passed away.

A bike like that... No cost is too much. When you love a bike the cost is secondary. This bike deserves a proper build. Stuff the general public thinks. In the future what you spend will be returned many times over. Do it right. Ride it and hang on for a few years. Pays for itself.

You've seen Robby Laytons work. Ask him to quote you on the fenders repair. He uses an aluminum metal filler that won't crack. Also, consider Cerakoting all metal. Much tougher than paint and adds only microns of thickness to part. In fact gun shops use it in high precision parts and high wear areas. Love the build an I vote BLUE

Also guys, as I suggested in my last letter, get a 34 tooth engine sprocket, which will make for more power at less rpm's. You're stuck with the 51 tooth rear sprocket, as all Harleys were until the advent of disc brakes. You can go higher than 17 teeth on the tranny main sprocket, it all depends on how you're going to use the bike. Another thing that I suggested, get a 45 WL workshop manual, you can find reprints of them all over Ebay, buy an inexpensive wheel truing stand & do the lacing & truing of the wheels yourselves. Stop just throwing money at it & do some of the restoration with your own hands, that's where the real joy of the restoration happens, and you'll have more pride from investing your own time & labor!!

Gave up after 6 months of working and rebuilding them. They looked perfect but the thing wouldn't track straight. Sent them to Jake Robbins (leading guy for these forks here in the uk) came back looked exactly the same but tracked perfect!

It's a great Blue. Red is cool too. Grey and Black would be awesome. Black rims and Black the forks instead of chrome? If Black and Grey then Natural oiled leather on the seat? Blue with some Red pinstripes? Aren't the accents in the tank badges Red? If you went Blue with Red accents then Chrome the front and rims? W oiled still look cool with Natural oiled leather seat. I know I originally said Olive Green would be a great colour, but was put off when the guy you were talking to about colours said "Green is bad luck," I thought about Sunburst Orange as a symbol of sunrise which feels like an affirming colour for Bikes & Beards and the way you reach others with your faith.

I really liked this video. It was a very realistic assessment of costs minus your time, which is considerable and worth money BTW. Fixing motorcycles IS about learning; you guys are just like all the rest of us. You show us the learning curve; this is nice. Color... whatever you like; it's your build not mine. Something OEM and tasteful just like you're talking. The original color was olive drab military, but unless you're heading for Normandy and D Day... The red is both OEM and fits with contemporary taste. This is a good choice for resale. The medium blue is OE and popular for HD restorations, but too close to baby blue for my taste. Do you see this color on anything contemporary, i.e. any vehicles bikes or cars? I mean Avacado was a popular color for kitchen appliances in the sixes... is you wife cool with that color in her restored kitchen today? Anyway, love your work; you Dudes go!

I had an old '70 Chevy Long Box 4x4 truck that my family helped me restore (frame off, back yard paint job, etc.). Bought it for 7K, added 20K in parts and upgrades (including driveline and engine rebuild, six inch lift, new tires, adding a supercharger, etc.), with miscellaneous parts at about 3K. Total in: ~30K. When finished, truck was worth about 20-22K. You can rarely make money on these projects. We do it for love.

Well, it's NOT the sixties, and will cost what it costs... Just don't leave out Your Heart. When you put your heart into it...THAT'S something money CAN'T buy! Oh, and get a manual. THEY might not be so easy to get but well worth it! Invaluable when I built mine. I even was able to make a new wiring harness for it. Covered in heat shrink tube - worked out a treat! I would say Grey with Black tear-drop / red pinstriped around the black edge. Similar to the early Low Rider when they first came out... on a wella it looks cool! my take for color scheme...

There's a guy named Fu I know here in Pennsylvania that got a 37 knucklehead and it took him 2 years to wire it because he wouldn't put any wires on it that didn't come off another 37 knuckle. He doesn't ride any bikes that have electric start. He is an antique Harley snob of the highest order lol from Avella, pa. Great guy.

Colour - I voted for the red, though I probably like the grey better.. That may sound bit crazy but as you're doing the bike to be a '50s bobber/racer I think the red is more likely to be a colour they'd have used back then whereas the grey (although I do like it better) is really a very modern option when it comes to bike colours, I feel that whoever converted this bike in the first place would have wanted it to stand out in a crowd and if it were grey it would kind of fade into the background.. THERE IS ANOTHER WAY.. How about two-tone paintwork ?.. Grey (the shade you're already proposing) and Burgundy/maroon work really well together, it looks more 'period' than grey alone and will stand out but still looks tasteful - a suggestion.. tank above the trim, Burgundy, tank below the trim, Grey - fenders burgundy on top with grey sides (or visa versa if you'd prefer..) Equally, you could swap the grey for a silver which also looks great with the burgundy/maroon.. Next project - I voted for the Indian but really I'd like to see.. None of the above ! - Find a Norton Commando and, instead of keeping it 'as found' or original, upgrade as much as you can (maybe even some light customisation ?..) to make it a viable (and reliable..) modern roadburner - It would be great to see something completely out of the ordinary for you, Commandos are popular on both sides of the pond (and pretty much the world over..) the entire bike is readily available in genuine new parts and there are hundreds of companies providing performance and handling upgrades - Hey, it might even benefit the channel by expanding the viewer numbers ?..

I REALLY, enjoy your videos, and because of what I have learned about your characteer I told myself when the time came I would buy my next bike from SRK, and I have been wanting to buy another bike since I had to sell mine to help pay bills for my mom when she was out of work from cancer, unfortunately she passed away. 2 years later I was ready to buy a bike, but my son got diagnosed with leukemia 3 years to the day after my mom' passed away from cancer. My son is now doing well, thank God, and I am ready to look for a bike. So SRK needs to be back asap.
