@@ChasingCurrents I am! Took the first steps today. I can learn to sail and store a boat to work on it in the same area I live up in Bolton! There's a resevoir and a sailing club 20 minutes away and I'm heading up there this weekend. The rest I can figure out once I learn some more but the intention is to buy the boat early next year. I'm already frugal and taking care of debts, I already have a great housing arrangement. THIS IS UTTERLY WILD. You've just proven that it's achievable - there's nothing stopping me apart from some serious learning and a lot of adult lego working out how to put a boat together :D You guys are game changers.

Nicely done. Bravo to you both for the honest and humble sharing. Your comments back to me regarding the B&G systems install and operation and the solar panel bracket/rail clamps have benefitted me greatly. Props on your success and your tenacious jump into the big adults pool!

Hi Jade & Brynn, like others I've been looking forward to this log. One thing that seems to be missing is insurance costs, I presume the marinas require you to be insured when you go in to them? Could you advise cost and who you use please? Many thanks and keep the updates coming, always a good start to the weekend!
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Hey John! Yeah, we actually paid the insurance in one go at the start of the year and will do the same when it expires again next :) We payed £350 to get from the UK- The Med (not including Biscay) and this covers us for Mediterranean waters not east of 5 degrees east excluding war zones. Any other cruising grounds we will need to add on to our policy, and the rate will change accordingly :) we are insured through GJW. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Great video. To be honest that is a lot less than I thought it would have been having followed your videos throughout. The good thing is you were frugal but it didn't look like that detracted from the fun and that's a balance others don't strike so well. Well done indeed. Did you do a video about the boat purchase, refit and improvements cost before you set sail?
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Ah thank you, that's good to know! We definitely didn't feel like we were missing out, we still managed to do everything we wanted. A pleasant surprise that it wasn't too pricey. We did do a video on those topics :) you can find it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6iWlYiJfsx6gNU

very interesting, I am wondering about monthly or overall boat maintenance cost you may have encountered? great video!
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Since we set sail in June we haven't had to do anything maintenance wise that's cost money. We did all the maintenance we knew we needed to before we left (rigging check, engine service) and so far no other costs have come up. We did service our toilet too in Spain (we already had the kit onboard though). Now we're back in England, we've bought another engine service kit to do when we get back (£90) another toilet service (£30) and some more antifoul paint (£70). Touch wood that will be it again for this season if no other unforseen issues pop up! 🙏

Hi guys what a week ... neighbours from hell are making a mess and dropping sea mines North of Turkey. The good news is there maybe a few superyatch's going cheap 😂😉 Fuel is going to be an real issue this year..so plan on sailing more wherever you go 🤞🏼
@snakeplisken42782 жыл бұрын
Small boats cost less. Don't be tempted to upgrade until you must. Do the marina's you used require insurance?
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
I think we agree with you there! 😁 As far as we know insurance is mandatory in most places, though I'm not exactly sure how heavily enforced it is. We just automatically take our insurance paper (we got it printed in Spanish) Small ships register, and passports when we arrive in a marina, and the office seemed to take copies of all of them.
@ShipHappensUK2 жыл бұрын
So I know you took fuel with you, but how much did fuel for the boat cost during your 3 months away?
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
So we didn't specifically fuel up before we left for Spain - but that's because we'd been sat for a while in Falmouth not sailing. So we had full tanks around June, we filled up jerry cans the day we left for Spain in July (So I guess that would total about £120 in fuel we had with us). We then topped up the £120 again in September, so probably the 3 months in total cost about £240 I think? We motored way more than we'd hoped!

Great info guys. Really good to know the costs in the Med. I take it they charge by the metre for the marinas... What was the cost of that please. Also you did leave out one stat... How many hours did Brynn sleep 🤣 Hope you have a great weekend down south 👍⛵
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Vince, glad you found it useful! Yeah they charge by the metre, we're usually in the 8 or 9 metre bracket (as we're about 8.5 metres haha). The cost was different in each marina, but usually no more than 15 euros :) We're going to do a video next week on how much each marina cost and the facilities etc too that you may find useful! Haha, I lost track of the sleep after the first week 😜 Cheers, we had a great weekend!

I’ve seen a few sailing channels put out this information. But if I remember correctly, I haven’t seen anybody mention their income only their out goings. This is because your expenses are relative to your income as to wether or not you decide something is expensive or reasonably cheap. Did you find employment quickly when you returned to the UK?
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew :) Yeah I remember when we were starting out, these were the kind of videos we were always looking for. So glad it was insightful 👍. Thankfully very quickly, Brynn managed to get a job the day after we got back, delivering motorbikes. And i've mostly been editing KZbin videos and keeping up with social media, but squeezing in some remote work too (have mentioned these on a blog on our website before if you were interested in what work). So we've been very lucky 😊

How is the sail from Greece to the UK...is it a good idea, regards wind direction , current and so on..
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
Hey, many people do this so it's not a bad thing to do. Smaller boats tend to go back through the French canals as then you generally arnt beating upwind as you head north along the atalantic coast. But either way if planned well as precautions taken it would be fine 🙂
