The 1st year living in our RV full time is FINISHED! Living in an RV full time can be one of the greatest adventures of your life. But have you ever wondered how much it cost to live in an RV full time? We cover the real cost of full time RVing by reviewing our 1 year RV budget RV budget and costs that typical full time RV'ers can expect for full time living on the road. Living in an RV full time is not cheap, but we were able to realize some great savings! We give a candid overview of our full time RV life budget and how we dealt with unexpected expenses. We seriously thought we under-budgeted for the first year of RV life - LOL! In the first six months of our journey, we were definitely in vacation mode. Because of that, we blew our 1 year RV budget out of the water in some areas! Watch to see if we fixed it in the second 6 months and what lessons we learned along the way. Now that our first year is over, we've set a new budget and direction for 2020. Interested in a copy of our 2020 budget? WE'LL SEND YOU A COPY! Please make sure you subscribe to our KZbin channel (it doesn't cost you a thing) and send an email to us at lyfuninterrupted@gmail.com.
Your 1 year RV budget and 1 year RV expenses to live full-time in a RV can differ significantly from ours. Whether you have a motorhome (diesel or gas), tow behind, fifth-wheel, camper van, truck and camper or other vehicle you can expect the costs to vary, but you will have similar budget categories. We did not include all expenses in this video as they may not be relative to a typical full time RV'er. Included here are fuel, lodging, memberships, groceries, dining out, entertainment, clothing, laundry, insurance, medical costs and repairs & maintenance.
Key Points in This Video:
1. 1 Year RV Living Budget
2. 1 Year RV Expenses
3. RV Budget/Cost Reduction Efforts

Who are we?
We are Brian and Shawnna, a full time RV couple who enjoy full time RV living. We are empty nesters who quit our corporate jobs, sold our home and auctioned off just about everything we own to live a simpler, more purposeful life. As Full Time RVers, our goal is to experience life and make awesome RV lifestyle videos for our community. We decided to "retire" from life as we knew it so we traded our stuff for experiences. We travel in a 34 foot, 2008 Winnebago Motorhome with a preference for boondocking (dry camping). We vlog, blog and update social media with our RV travel experiences, advice and challenges with a goal of helping other RVers along the way - find beautiful places to stay and save money by seeking out low cost campgrounds and awesome boondocking sites. The full time RV life is a great way to live, but it's not without its challenges. We plan to share those with you and offer advice along the way.

I am always amazed at the cost of living in the US. Six years gone and I forget how bad it is. Our monthly expenses all in for 3 adults, 5 large bred dogs and 3 cats is $2300. in Costa Rica and we live at the beach. Great video! Thanks for the detailed recap. Remember you can visit when this all settles down. We have been killing the curve here. Population 5 mil, 900 cases, 2/3 recovered, 15 hospitalized and 10 deaths.

We use Visible as well. Make sure that you reach out to a friend or 2 and invite them to Party Pay with Visible. Check their website, but long story short -- 4 Phones pay a total of $100 and they will bill each phone separately. We have our 2 daughters in our Party Plan and they pay their own bill -- YEAH. Normally I find Parties to affect my costs adversely, but this Party Plan is a nice savings. Note: I have a Samsung phone and my wife the iPhone X -- she gets better reception and data than what I do.

We made our RV budget before we purchased our 2009 class A part of our planning to go fulltime. In our pre-planning budget we budgeted $800 a month for our food expenses. We have the same kind of mindset of full-timing when we can finally get another good buyer for our ranch. Covid-19 impacted our sale. On our budget we figured $2940. for a year. We plused up our budget to be safe in the planning. Now we just need to be able to sell and go but with the pandemic there will even be fewer buyers. We had a large turbo expense on our diesel engine while husband is still working and we are glad of that so it happened when it would not affect our rv budget. I like your budget as it seems realistic for us even so means we will save dollars. Thanks for sharing! ~Debi~

For groceries, shop the sales. You can pull up weekly sales ads online for grocery stores in the area and buy things on sale. $600s groceries, not including dining out, is a ton for 2 people. Especially if you aren't including dining out. And you are traveling so you can hit multiple stoes and hit stores as you move through an area. Don't grocery shop in small towns. Shop as you move through a larger area. You don't have to go without. Just only buy things on sale. Or try to buy things when they are on sale as much as absolutely possible. But there is no need to go without.

Be careful about CHM or any health sharing plan. Legally these aren't considered "health insurance" which means they are not regulated as such. They can deny reimbursing you for any reason. States have sued based on unpaid claims and misappropriated spending. You're right if your relatively healthy it's a much cheaper alternative. I would check ACA and shop around for plans.

One thing you should look at is VA medical coverage. As a veteran they have opened it up based on your income but once you're in you're in for life. I found out by accident when I was trying to get just the veteran ID card they put out. You don't have to use it but you never know and it doesn't cost anything. As well as when you become eligible for Medicare it is still there. You can only use one or the other on a givin event but it gives you choices. You can also use outside urgent care facilities when you need it...you just call them and they give you the closest one based on your location! I am healthy so I went with VA as my only healthcare but it saved me $700 a month.

So, our 1 year cost / expenses came out to 40K, However, that DIDN'T include the large ticket items in maintenance / unexpected costs, or one time things that aren't going to be a ongoing hit to our day to day expenses. We have a whole other budget for that that has new tires, an unexpected hospital stay, etc,etc. That's the "contingency" fund which we left with $30k in that "fund". As of right now we're at $20k in that fund and we expect to back to around $30k again at this time next year. So if we lump it together, we spent $50k in our first year. It's kinda cool to compare our 2 experience's since we left at the same time from the same place. Oh yeah, we also covered 27 States in our first year!

As I've said before, come summer of 2021 my husband & I of 35+ yrs plan to also sell everything we OWN and join the RV life. Although we are very EXCITED!!! We are also scared to death. We have lived here in the country, on the same 6acres, completely private, for 30 of those years, Have a beautiful 8yr old home, which is our dream home, but now that the kids are gone, most of the grandkids to big to stop by anymore, out doing their own thing, this huge house is just to much!! Not to count, the yard work is starting to kill us. My husband will be 63 come May AND MYSELF 55. We have talked about doing this for a couple years now but, like I said, the fear of letting everything go scares us to death. We finally decided, he will be 63 come May 2021, just a step closer to his SSI benifits. We can stay here, where we know everything is paid, owe for nothing!! But do nothing!! Oh did I mention we live in southern Illinois, in a town of 1000 lol. Where we would set here and live our LIFE LONELY, while awaiting those ridiculous property taxes, in a house that is 3X what we need, or cut loose a GO!!! See the world and enjoy life!! Life is way to short to set here just waiting for our time to go. We want to enjoy life. So do you have any advice? The pros & cons , if you had it to do over, would you? We want to feel excited!° but deep down we are both scared to death. The plan right now is, we are doing it!! Are we making the right choice?

Hi Ladonna. Sounds like you are going through the same thoughts and feelings we did. In the end, we didn’t allow fear to drive our decision to change our lives for the better. This is the best decision we have made and wouldn’t change a thing. That said, this lifestyle is not without its challenges. You really have to be flexible and keep the expectations that things will always go your way low. Hope this helps!

We were supposed to move across the country this Spring, but the Coronavirus delayed a lot of things for us. This time has given us lots of time to think. Since we have decided that don't know where we want to move to (all the craziness has made us rethink it), RV'ing with our two Corgis to tour the US and figure out where we might like to live eventually seems like a good choice. Great video Brian, appreciate the budget info, along with all the expenditures! Having watched several video's as of late (weather & Covid keeping us indoors) I saw one woman, living in her Nissan SUV, living on $280.00 per month, to what you've showed us here, so there are great variables on how folks are living these days, and I am surprised at just how many folks live in only their vehicles, with some having tiny trailers with just a bed as well! Living in our Sticks & Bricks is definitely ridiculously expensive, especially those of us living near large city centres, and even with us Canadians having no additional 'Health Care' costs, as ours is paid via our taxation, but generally many things are extremely expensive, at least I find it that way now that I'm retired. Trying to fit in several of your video's today...so of I go to the next one! :)

47k is a heck of a lot more than living in a house. I had my home on the market early this year and decided to take it off even after numerous offers in February. I was gifted a Acura MDX and decided i needed a garage for it when I travel. Little that i knew this virus would affect the lives of so many. Im so glad i decided not to sell it. I own it outright and have a roof over my head. My home does not cost 47k in repairs, insurance or taxes. Not even a third of that amount. Had i sold my house abd took the money it would be all gone in less than 10yrs at 47k per year. Plus i would have to replace my rig. I do intend to purchase a lot up north to have a second home base. I think we all need to realize is life is not a "one size fit all equation" and being on the road fulltime wouldnt have worked in my situation. I do enjoy watching your videos as they are very informative.

Well that may be what it cost you to live full time but.....for us...wow that's way to rich for us. There are better ways to budget and travel and have a good time. We spent 18 months planning to travel full time in our motorhome, getting our rig and tow car ready, along with getting all of our personal stuff in order too This is our 3rd year now on the road. We're retired-"but still young in the retired world"-but we're not on vacation. We just started a different life style and we live within our means or less. Our costs run around $2,100/mo. and we do what we want, when we want and this covers everything. RV traveling and full timing doesn't have to be expensive. It just needs to be planned smart and carefully. A few changes in-money wise-what you guys do or some of those that follow your channel, you could save a small fortune and still have as much fun. BTW...your phoenix solution to your engine issue was a wise decision. thx for the video.

We just found your channel. Thx for the budget that is what we are trying to figure out….plus gas or diesel class a coach
@LyfUninterrupted
@LyfUninterrupted 2 жыл бұрын
Hj Dennis. A typical rule of thumb is that a gas coach will cost about 1/3 less to maintain than a diesel coach. An example is an oil/ filter change in diesel coach will cost about $800-$1200 annually compared to less than $200 for a gas coach. This of coarse assumes taking a diesel coach to a shop versus a DIY oil change in a gas coach. Oil changes for our coach cost me about $50 every 3000 miles. We drove a little over 10,000 miles last year, so it cost me less than $200 for the year. I do most of my own maintenance as well, which can really add up if you take it to a shop. Getting a timely appointment these days is very, very difficult too. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the budget review - well done (this coming from a CPA!). We are planning on going full time in a few years, and this analysis helps create a good estimate. Based on your comments, I am guessing that you did not finance your rig. Others might have additional monthly costs for truck/trailer/etc. I absence of monthly payments, perhaps adding some comments about depreciation might be warranted (e.g. non-cash expenses). Oh man, looking back our first year was crazy. we probably spent 18K on RV Parks, and a few hotels when our POS Airstream had to be rebuilt!, We hit 27 states and we're staying on daily rates. Now we're approaching year 5, things are way better. Did you include Depreciation in your calculation? That's one that most don't think about but it's a real cost. We surely took a hit when we changed setups twice now, but we accounted for it. Good Vid!

@LyfUninterrupted 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for tuning in! Sounds like your first few years have been exciting. As for depreciation; our coach is a 2008, so most of the depreciation has been realized. This said, we have added many, many upgrades (solar, lithium batteries, remodeled interior, etc.) to help offset some depreciation. Frankly though, we are not at all concerned with depreciation since it is an older coach.

@@LyfUninterrupted Our current coach is the same, 2003 Foretravel, it's taken all the big hits. But for people buying a new, or newer model it's one of those items that's hardly thought about. I guess my point is many (most) don't get it right on the first RV, (including ourselves) and could be hit with a huge surprise on the next rig if they are not financially prepared.

Learned a lot from your comments about how much it cost you for your first year on the road. Frankly, I don't think you need to apologize for your lifestyle, especially how much you choose to spend on food. There's no way any of us can or should compare to someone else's budget. We all have different budgets, and should live our lives in RV's or sticks & bricks in the way our private budgets serve us best. I do have a question, though. Why do you remove the cost of memberships, like TT? Even if you spent $7500 for membership and divided it by 365 (even if you didn't stay in TT every night0, it's only about $22 that you would add to your existing nightly fees. I'm not good at math and I know the membership lasts your lifetime, but isn't there some way to talk about it inclusively in annual costs? It might make purchasing a membership more palatable for those of us on the fence. Also, do you know if anyone has ever done a comparison for part-timers and purchase of TT membership? Thanks a lot!
@LyfUninterrupted
@LyfUninterrupted 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! As for TT..we've met just as many people with TT memberships as without. Some have the very expensive memberships and some(like us)have the annual($700) membership. Moreover, we pick and choose the add-on zones depending on where we're traveling. Also, TT often has a 2 for 1 sale on their zones. We elected to not include the cost of TT membership in our nightly costs for these reasons. Hope this helps clarify the method to our madness! As for a comparison for Part-timers, we're not sure if anyone has done that.
