I decided to go for a day out without a backpack, but making sure I took enough gear to feed me and give me a coffee, including my cook kit, poncho/tarp, hammock and tree huggers. Did I manage to fit it all in my British Army MTP Smock/Combat Jacket? Come along and see how I did.
I'm not promoting these products for payment... just so we're clear.. i'm just letting you know where to get them, search around for the best price.

I am a little bit late to the party on this one Lee. A great video Sir. I love my hammock and it is always my first choice when possible. Your smock is like a tardis. Superb. Thanks. Paul 👍😊

Hey Paul, better late to the party than never mate 👍 Yes the MTP smock is a great piece of kit, I don't wear it enough TBH as it's not waterproof but I do love it. I do like hammocking but I still have a bit of a love hate relationship with them, I have a DD frontline I sleep in mainly and have some great sleeps and not so great, this cheap day hammock I've also slept in a few times overnight and had a brilliant kip... go figure. Thanks for watching, check out some of my other vids if you have the time. Lee

@@BurtonOutdoors Agreed Lee, better late than never. I thought that I was subscribed to you but it appears not so I have just remedied that. I have the original DD Frontline Hammock and love it. Looking at buying a Brit Army Medium MSS Sleep Bag to modify in to a cocoon for it which will still enable me to use it on the ground also. I will catch up on more of your videos mate 👍😊

Yeah it's the newer one I think, with wick away netting, pit vents etc, and buttons that don't stick out so don't get caught on stuff, also fleecy pockets are very nice in the winter... I pad £35.00 from surplus shop. warm with other layers underneath, defo windproof and waterproof.

Greetings from the US. I was in your country 1 1/2 years ago on vacation (holiday), when I stayed in London. I made sure however to get past the city, and visit Box Hill in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and what a great day hike it was! Since then, I've acquired, although not necessarily as a result of the aforementioned daytrip, a couple of smocks, as collector's items/bush-craft pieces, including one exactly like the type you're modeling here (my "rocker" patches said "RAF REGIMENT" however). As an avid subscriber to the American M-65 field jackets, I really am impressed with these British military jackets. The pockets are incredible, I find that I don't overheat with the smock, given moderate exertion, as I do with the M-65, and they are just tailored better/more loosely to allow for easier layering. My field jackets still have their place, mainly for going out and about in urban/sub-urban settings in the cold, but for camping or hiking in the woodlands, there's no better than a windproof. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for joining me from over the pond, I live about 30 mins drive from Box Hill, it's certainly a beautiful area I'm glad you got out of the city to explore. Yes the MTP smock is very versatile, the British Army know how to design military gear for sure. I still use the smock, the only downside is that it's not waterproof, shower proof but very windproof. Thanks for watching, if you like all sorts of military jackets check out "Jim Timber Too" on You tube he's a friend of mine and has lots of jackets, hes a Brit living in Poland. Lee

....😏, wouldn't catch me wearing those patches on my jacket😂🤣👍 Bloody R.M.C!! Y'missed hiding a wire-saw & a hank of paracord under your hood/collar🤔😂🤣. You did well getting that stuff in. It'd give you heaps more additional carrying capability when you've got a rucksack on. (Squaddies webbing normally means you get breast-pockets -only). If you get a small velcro backed pouch you can add it to the right upper arm as well ( something like a basic first aid / firestarting kit).

I think I'm the only one in the outdoor uk KZbin community that hasn't got an army jacket. I've always wanted one and after seeing this video i want one more. Lovely forest, nice wild camp spots. Interesting stuff about the bomb craters. atb 👍
@BurtonOutdoors
@BurtonOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Gaziano Outdoors Yeah I did a bit more about bomb craters in a previous viddy, they used to put lights on the Forrest to replicate a town so when the German bombers came over they used to drop some bombs thinking it was a town... I'm not that into military gear, but wanted a camo jacket that was versatile, windproof, waterproof and robust enough to not wash it all the time and something I could get mud and stuff on and not worry how much it costed... this was 35 quid from an army surplus shop... I wouldn't recommend ordering online, look at my previous combat jacket fails vids... I had had enough of ill fitting ones, so just went in a shop and tried a few on... this one's perfect as there's still room for a few extra layers if needed. Cheers Gaz. Lee

If you want to get the same jacket, it's called The MTP Combat Smock also known as the SAS Smock for some reason, it also comes in DPM pattern, mine is a newer version with fleece lined pockets and internal button fixings on the pocket lids, also has mesh lining for better air flow with pit vents.

Ozdave McGee Thanks Dave, wow! 41c that's hot mate, it's currently -1c here in South England and snow!! Yeah the MTP combat jacket is an ace piece of kit, they do make a wind cheater, outer layer type jacket in MTP camo British Army, it light and offers a little rain protection, doesn't hang as well and doesn't have the same pockets but am option for you. Cheers for watching, Lee

Burton Outdoors we have similar issue shirts long sleeve but nowhere near as much pocket. I went for an 11km walk in the national park yesterday mid 30s. That took 4 litres of water and a bit left at the end lol. All I was carrying was a bag of precooked rice 500gr. Our needs for water here are phenomonal in summer. Which is why the forces use Alice type bottles issued. And the British plce isnt popular here because you need to be able to get to water as you walk. In winter I use a berghouse 45lt and plce side pouches. But I'm going to replace that for a karrimor 6lt with plce I think
