This is a really valuable contribution to Project Managers who want to see what a real career trajectory looks like. Mileage may vary, but this does show the real ups and downs that people should be prepared for.

Thanks Mike, I really hope that it helps - especially those starting a career in project management. There are so many variables that can impact income, I think I covered the main ones here. It will be interesting in the years to come to see what impact a preference for remote working will have on salaries.

Tha´t true, as contractor I just didn´t double my base salary, I triple it!!, Then became a direct employee and the increase in salary as been shy. Of course, some benefits came once I become employee, like the insurance, savings program, etc.

It can be life changing amounts of money - and then you're in a great position to make better judgements about future roles. It sounds like we've had a similar journey.

Can I ask what's the difference between a contracted and a normal job. Furthermore I want to get into construction project management so would I just need an APM qualification for it?
@InfluentialPMO4 ай бұрын
A contract job often means you are engaged as a company rather than an individual. You don't get employee rights (sick leave, paid holiday, company benefits) and your notice period is often much less than an employee. But you tend to get paid more per day. Regarding the move to construction PM, look for job postings for that role - and see what qualification is required. APM is popular generally in the UK - but I can't say for the construction industry.

@@InfluentialPMO I'm a student leaving sixth form and I really want to get into construction project management through an apprenticeship scheme. I'm relying on the UCAS points from my A levels but are there any free or cheap courses I could do in the summer to help me increase my chances of landing a role at an apprenticeship
@InfluentialPMO4 ай бұрын
Sure, check out coursera and edX- they usually have decent free courses. Their certification probably won’t be a huge factor, but learning the topic, the approach, the language would be invaluable

@InfluentialPMO Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I look on Jobserve mostly; but I’ve never actually landed an advertised role. Usually I get approached by recruiters. As for short courses, it’s hard to say without knowing a lot more about the individual.

@@InfluentialPMO thank you so so much for taking time to respond. In relation to the course my background is in finance retail, just finished a law degree but landed a PMO job in finance payments , with zero experience in the sector hence looking around to learn. Stay blessed 🙌
