The fact that we get free videos on KZbin by Geoff is truly a gift; keeping education and knowledge alive. 👏🙏🤷 May I also remind you of the fact that our Native American population in our motherland, the Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while the European population in their motherland, the Continent of Europe was around 25 millions. Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shockingly sad truth. 😔 In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return to rightful owners Native American people. Notorious global cardinal crimes the Christian West has committed, and benefited a great deal, such as centuries-long global Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on, may I ask? 🤷

For centuries, in vast bountiful resourceful North & South America, the motherland of Native American people, where the vast majority of the population, hundreds of millions of Europeans were from all over and every corner of Northern & Southern Europe brought in over to occupy the Native American lands. Similarly, in the Asia-Pacific region, the vast majority of the population in vast bountiful resourceful Australia & New Zealand, tens of millions of Europeans were from all over Europe brought in over to the Asia-Pacific, the motherland of Native Asian-Pacific people. What happened to Native American people in their own motherland, wiping them out almost entirely after tens of thousands of years of profound culture.. It's really sad and disgusting how so many Native people of the Americas were wiped out by genocide and Colonization. Native American people have already lost their land, their population and most of all their future..The tragedy of Native Americans is the saddest thing ever happened in the history of mankind, and the most neglected one as well. 'Slavery, Genocide, Colonialism & Colonization' are all evil things done and benefited by evildoers. Speaking of Native American people who have not occupied an inch of European land, or slaughtered a single European in Europe; while European Colonizers have occupied both North & South America lands and terminated 99.9% of Natives population.. A shockingly sad truth.

Hi Geoff, found this in my readings: Were Denmark to sell Greenland it would have to give Britain first refusal under the terms of an agreement made more than a century ago, the last Danish minister for the Arctic island has said. Donald Trump’s stated ambition to acquire Greenland has sparked an increasingly bitter war of words. Tom Høyem, 83, Copenhagen’s representative on the island from 1982 to 1987 and an expert on its tangled history, said on Saturday that an undertaking from 1917, when America first made a tentative attempt to acquire the island, was still valid. Woodrow Wilson, the US president, subsequently agreed that Greenland was Danish and always would be, Høyem said.

This is an insane framing. You need to subtract the cost of extraction and transportation to a processing facility from the value of the thing being extracted. Both of which are substantial. The current law prevents extraction, to which you suggest "military conquest could be the solution to legal issues". With the same attitude, we could discuss the value of enslaving , because you could make indentured servitude legal after conquering it

Greenland have banned extraction of oil,gas, uranium , but not for the rest , unless it's where the people live, but you are right it's so expensive and due to the tick ice it have been difficult to even locate the minerals,and when you start such a venture where you first have to build infrastructure you have to be sure you can sell on the market, if you can't compete on prize you can't sell, plus the market for rare earth have not been an open market but a very small market with few buyers dominated by China, now because China restrict sale and USA/EU want to be less dependent on China they get more interested in Greenland, there is a couple of mines in Greenland now it's easier now on one side where the ice have melted , 12 countries have bought license to mine for the moment ,

Not "fake," rather _distorted_ on the Mercator projection. That particular projection is used for _navigation_ and _charting major storms_ because it spaces meridians evenly regardless of latitude. But as a consequence of this, Greenland appears larger than South America (even though it's actually smaller than Argentina). Other projections exist-used for different purposes.

This vid fails to take into account that while climate change is causing rapid melting now, there's the small matter of the imminent collapse of the AMOC. There's ample evidence to suggest that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation will collapse and fairly soon. This will have a huge effect on Greenland, specifically, it will get colder and melting will slow if not cease. I don't understand why this isn't being taken into consideration with regards to Greenland's future.

Well, at least one person got this right, not you Geoff. Greenland was setttled by Europeans when Norwegians, some of them living in Iceland settles there in 986. It was independent as Iceland also was in those years, but Iceland, mainly settled by Norwegians, came under the Norwgian throne in the 1200's, and was administered together with Faroes, Shetland, Orkneys and the Hebrides , Isla of Man, Ireland, Northumberland and Caithness from Bergen in Norway. Irealand, Isle of Man, Caithness, Northumberland and the Hebrides was given to the Scots king (Not Ireland). In the 1380s the crown Prince of Norway was elected king of Denmark, he died, sp his mothewr, the Queen of Norway became the ruler, and also the ruler of Denmark and Sweden. However in the 1460s the king of Norway-Denmark- Sweden wanted his daughter to marry the Scots king, and the king of Scotland should have two barrels of siver as dowry, but the did not have this, so he put up shetland and Orkney as collateral, he never paid, so the Scots held on to it, but they still use norse law there. !460s was the lkast time the colonists in Greenland was hears from. the Danes had by this time never been in any of these places like Faroes, Iceland and Greenland. In the 1700s a Norwegian priest , born in Norway as the son of a Danish immigrant and married with a Norwegian lady went as a priest to Greenland. Some Danes claims that this Norwegian man was Danish, that is Danes for you. His father hd immigrated to Norway, so he was of half Danish ancestry. In the the aftermath of the Napoleonic wars, Sweden wanted Norway as Sweden had broke off its union with Norway and Denmark in 1523. But we declared a constitution an elected a king, a Danish prince, he gave up in a few months, and we accepted that the king of Sweden should be our new king, but we keopt our constitution and government. But in the talks about the Western Isles as these places were called in Norway, the Danes told the Swedes that these islands were Danish, not Norwegian, even if the were governed from Bergen in Norway and had been so goverened for 600 years from there! The Danes were liars and swindlewrs, and the Swedes were stupid, as usual. that is Norways neighbors , swindlesrs and thiefs to the south, and softbrained idiots to the east. So in 1814 the Danes had swindled itself to owning these lands. I strongly suggest to use non-Danish material for researching this, I bought a Danish history book, and we use that as a humoristic example of the complexed people living on some sandbanks.

Nor should its natural resources be exploited without regard to the environment, which is why Greenlanders have regulations in place to prevent such things. Greenland originally belonged to Norway. Why? Because the Vikings that discovered and colonized it along with Iceland, the Faroese Islands, and Vinland (now Labrador) were from Norway. When Norway entered the Kalmar Union along with Sweden and Denmark uniting the three Scandinavian countries under a single crown with the Danish Monarchy as the ruler, all three were included in that union. Sweden broke away from the union in the 1500s and retained Finland. After the Napoleonic Wars Sweden acquired Norway but ceded Finland to Russia but Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroese Islands were placed under Danish rule. Norway regained its independence in the early 1900s and pursued its claim on Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroese Islands by petitioning it to the League of Nations, the predecessor of the UN. But the LN favored Denmark so, Denmark retained the three possessions. Iceland and the Faroese Islands gained their independence on 1944 and 1946 respectively. Now, if Denmark does not want Greenland to be taken by another power, it needs to form an alliance with Sweden and Norway by jointly deploying military troops there even when Greenland becomes independent as a message to other powers that Greenland is off-limits to them because Denmark cannot do it by itself that's why if there are countries that Denmark can trust, they are none other than Sweden and Norway. After all, they were once one under the Kalmar Union.

The most likely US “takeover” of Greenland (if it were to happen, which is unlikely) is Greenland could become independent and enter an agreement with the US similar to the Compact of Free Association some Pacific islands have with the United States. COFA countries are independent, but receive aid through the US. Their citizens can live and work in the United States without a visa, go to college in the United States and - since the US military defends COFA countries under the treaty - COFA citizens can join the United States military without being U.S. citizens. In fact, COFA countries have the highest rate of US military participation, higher than all US states and territories.

If the world experianced the loss of ice enough to alow mining in the mid part of Greenland the Antartic would melt simalarly. That means no U.S.A. No costal cities. Or Flordia and most of southern Texas etc. Not much of a country left to exploit anything really.

This is a video that everyone should watch, it really makes you think about the future of global geopolitics. The way I see it, as a species we have to continue advancing to be able to roll with the tide of the changing planet. We started with fire:wood/coal, then oil and gas, now we are moving towards electricity:nuclear/renewables. We had to do what we had to do to get to this point, and that caused the planet to change. Now we can reach a point where we can stabilize the climate through widespread use of modern energy sources. If we can understand well enough how the planet works we can prepare and prevent disasters and continue to develop sustainably and evolve as a species.

They are close related, Nunavut i believe speak inuktituk and letters are very different from Greenlandic. The variety of different dialects make it some difficult. Even in Greenland there are like 4 different dialects ( east greenlandig is difficult to understand) I guess some words are understanderable. I was a volunteer as living in Nuuk back in 2016 Arctic Winter Games and most spoke english to each other, during sporting events. After when it was more loose there was time to try and laugh of each other.

Resources are a minor part of the equation, the island is a foot hold defensive for the USA, Greenland is defenseless to Russian military should Putin attack it and seize it, it takes Denmark a week to sail to it and the battle will be over by then, if Russia took control of the area they could launch missles directly at the United States from scud launchers, same as China, Denmark and Greenland need to be cautious here and not snub the United States without looking at the broader picture because if they do get invaded by Russia that phone call for help to Alaska might go to voicemail.
@JaneMurray-di3gq
@JaneMurray-di3gq 5 күн бұрын
Don’t you think the Danes don’t know this? I’m sure they have military in place that we don’t know about. On the other hand Trump is more concerned about the riches he can rape this country for. Protection from Russia invading is secondary. Although I’m sure it too is taken in consideration and will be prepared for.
