Easy answer.....kansas isn't nearly as scenic as missouri and Colorado. Also something to consider... all the terrible drivers in Kansas probably ran into each other that's why the population is so low. Every time I'm driving through Missouri and some jerk is in my rearview doing something crazy alone and behold there's a Kansas license plate on the car. I live up in Nebraska and it holds true up here too

"Thousands" of Rugged Fjords> nope not thousands.BC is not "incredibly empty there are towns and cities from south to north.Spain never made claims to BC nor did Russia. Victoria and Vancouver are not affordable the entry level price or any home is 1 million. Prince Rupert,Fort St John Dawson Creek Terrace Prince Rupert etc etc etc. An American in Oregon doing a history of a different country many many mistakes. Victoria Vancouver 30% of residents do not have a doctor.

Kind of ridiculous the way this guy frames the Dakota war. The war was started because some young Dakota killed some European settlers and then the Dakota decided they might as well attack more settlers.. Yes, many Dakota were displaced and executed but its much more two sided than this guy wants to admit. Its always easier to pretend things were black and white for some people.

Not everyone thinks Manitoba is prairie. Saskatchewan is flat, boring and stinks of pig farms. Alberta is breathingly spectacular, exciting and inviting.

I live in Oswego county New York which is definitely upstate and I don't know what they're talking about because I've lived in the same town every one of my 42 years and the population has more than tripled maybe even quadrupled since I live here and that's no BS so I don't know what the hell they're talking about...

As a Swede, this reminds me of my home country in quite many ways. Our North is also sparsely populated, but critical since it harbors vast quantities of natural resources. I don't know too many details, but much of it was effectively colonized from the local Sami people, which is a dark stain on our history, with some consequences being felt to this day. Keep up the good work, would be cool if you did an episode on Sweden!

This proposal is not new by any means, the author fails to mention a single thing about the State of Jefferson movement going on before WWII that had a LOT of momentum but they agreed to stop due to the needs of the war. Once the war was over they had a hard time gaining traction since by then things had changed politically against the idea. Historically Northern California and southeast Oregon have always been given little by both state governments compared to cities in outside areas which slows the development of the communities.

Every native Oregonian knows that the liberals in California fled to Oregon due to too much “diversity” in their communities and moved to a community with lower property prices and cost of living. The usually stayed along the I-5 corridor and couldn’t handle the harsh winters east of the Cascades which has a population of around 80% conservative voters. I grew up in Klamath Falls, OR in the 70’s-80’s and I remember people who would stand on the side of the highway and throw handfuls of gravel at cars with California license plates that were clearly moving to Oregon. The flood of Mexican illegals is extremely small since they prefer warmer climates and large cities so what remains is hard working people.

Hi! I am from Wichita, we are a really cool town with a lot to do! Also I'm a storm chaser and western kansas has the best storm chasing terrain in the world because you can see an entire structure of a storm for miles and miles, and we have one of the best highway systems in the US :)

Different payment amounts also because 1 gets paid more in Alta for doing the same jobs in sask who recently just moved minimum wage to 14$-Hr. I got paid more in Alta, and Sask is dirty with lots of homeless litter whereas Calgary as an example is always clean! Sk cities are only clean looking in winter when snow is covering the litter.

Wichita is a nice city, not too big. Northeast Kansas has grown a lot. The work force is great, schools are great and 81 miles between KU and Kansas State is the next large development corridor. Plenty of land, water and lots of sun with all four seasons. Tried Texas. Way too hot. Lived in Washington, getting way too overpriced in real estate. Kansas is poised for growth.
