thinking of swift, my instructor recommended me to go there for experience. get rid of my apartment, go OTR for 2-3 years and just save most of my money for a 25% down payment on house. then go local around that area.

@@gts3004 I don’t bring one. I use disposable dish ware and utensils. Bring pre portioned meals in separate containers to refrigerate. Also find microwaveable meals you like. I found a buncha soups I like that can be microwaved right in its container. Washing dishes is quite difficult, although not impossible

You get paid peanuts anywhere for your first year at least maybe longer because their insurance costs are sky high. If you lease you make more but any damage is out of your pocket.

@@orthodoxphronesis Lol I take those words back. I actually did ended up going to swift for their training and passed everything first try and got my CDL. I’m thankful for that, I’m working for a different mega carrier now 4 months in earning 44CPM as a solo OTR driver, pay could be better, but I understand is my first year so I guess I can’t expect much, but to gained experience, which is what I’m doing now.

It’s good to hear your positive experience! Swift has a regional account in my area that I’m interested in. Hopefully I can provide all of the employment information they need. Your experience gave me more hope, there are a lot of “horror stories” out there. Never know if you’ll be able to do something well unless you’re willing to take the risk and try.

Depends on the account your trying to get on. If it’s local and they have the mentors available to train then they’ll train you there. If they don’t have mentors available they may send you otr for the training then back on to the account to drive

Also depends on the terminal, and where you live. If you’re in a major hub area there’s probably a lot of local options. If you’re outlying, not so much. Also has to be openings on those accounts. A couple years ago when I was at Swift they always had openings, now with freight down, there’s not so many.

Yea the past few months. Most swift accounts nation wide take drivers straight out of cdl school. Isn’t as much about it you’re a new driver as it is if they’re actually needing and hiring drivers. The local accounts, like the one in Arcadia, fill up quick because they’re more desirable

I’m about to start on the Walmart account in Arcadia. They acted exited about me having six months experience. A lot of new people getting the truck stuck, dropping trailers and so on. If someone with more experience applies then they prefer experience. There’s a lot of backing and pulling into stores.

don't work at swift bro. My lead driving instructor said it was the worst company to ever drive for and always talked about how they screw you over but never got into specifics. Now that I've graduated one of the only places that was willing to hire me was swift. They will make you do all of their orientation and not pay you until you are hired. Let me say that again they only pay you 300 dollars for orientation when you get hired. I applied for their Walmart account and went through the whole process, but you're not officially hired. I went to the swift terminal yesterday and they brought me in and another guy for the same route. He had 6 months of experience, and I obviously don't have any. After the day was finished, he said to be expecting a driver's code to be sent to me and never got it. The other guy had some family issues and wasn't sure if I'd be able to do the job, but he got the driver leaders number, and they talked yesterday, and the driver leader definitely favored towards him because swift knows it's hard to find experienced drivers dumb enough to work for them. To sum it up they made me do their orientation for free then hired someone else who wasn't even that interested in the job and they're keeping me on the back burner just in case that guy doesn't work out for them, and I looked up reviews on swift and the same thing happened to multiple people and all of them never got a call back. Also, the benefits and the tuition reimbursement is not a thing. They make you email the place that's going to pay your loan and they sometimes don't even respond and that was coming from the driver leader. If anyone has anything good to say about swift they're either swift cucks, or they are high up in the ranks and favored by the company. Take the advice I should've listened to and never work for swift!!!!!

On the account I was on it was as much about the miles tbh. That also had $35 load pay and $10 per stop. We’d do at least two loads a night and like 4-5 stop a night so half your pay is from that extra pay. Often times I’d do an extra third load to make more money

I am from Florida I called swift they said 650 during training and after 4 weeks they pay 0,55 cent per miles and when I ask how many miles per week she said 3600 miles I don’t know if this truth or not it’s regional . Anybody has more informations can help

Yea that sounds pretty accurate. The training pay is not very good but some places don’t pay at all during training. Like I said before I got my 2 years experience in at swift then left for something different

This company all around sucks!!! You can make good money, but you have to have favor with a planner, and in some cases be of a certain group. No BS it's just how it's always been for years. I've talked to a lot of highly skilled, motived drivers, seen them back, seen them over the road for years. They go to companies like this, get a few good loads, then get put in a slump for months until they have to quit or accept the fact that they aren't going to make much money for a long time. How do you go from making 3000 miles a week, to a lease truck then get nothing over 2100 miles? I thought lease drivers show you they are willing to accept longevity and responsibility for doing a lot of miles. They don't care. You're another number.
