Hi Peter, Yes, new rings are good, but the cheapest way to help is to add piston coating to shrink the clearances, even still not within specs, but it will give the motor a lot of added life. Or use engine restore. I did it to my very worn truck, the results are amazing!

I may have bad rings in one cylinder. Is it necessary to hone a cylinder wall? Should i replace all the rings? Do i order original size or get oversized? What about rod bearings? Its a ‘10 Chrysler 3.8 w/~250k mi

Even for Nissan engine 220000 kms seems low for that condition. Must have been the person who owned it did not maintain the oil changes and other maintance on the car. My guess

Is back compression happening because of piston rings or any other reason. I could find some small back compression through oil filler cap. If it's piston rings. Is it possible to change piston rings without removing engine from car. I have VW Polo 1.5 TDI.

Hi Peter, thanks for great work. I have a 12 Camry with 156,000 miles on it. I drive very carefully, so I know it is not the driving style. I get 21.6 per gallon currently, but I would like to get as close as possible to original mileage which is 25 city 35 highway. I think it is 27.4 combined. Do you recommend use NPR to replace the original ones? Is that even possible? Is there NPR for 12 Camry? Sincerely
@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I recommend, if your engine consumes lot of oil.

@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor Thanks Peter, I've found NPR for Hondas and other cars. Do you know of a specific type that fits 12 Camry SE? Thanks1

Hi Peter. Interesting video. I have a VW 1.4 4 cyl 8V engine with code AUD and 220.000Km that has the same piston slap. Are you saying that a worn piston can still be used by renewing only the piston rings? Can the piston rings be affected quickly when there is a lot of piston slap? That would explain the worn oil rings in your engine

Yes, new piston rings helps
