Fair play to Jill, there are not many content creators of any type, written, traditional or modern (ie KZbin) media who are willing to just plonk the numbers in front of their audience. I preordered a Kindle copy. I did it both for my convenience (I have difficulty turning pages, my dexterity isn't what it once was) and because I'd heard from another author that Kindle sales often have the best author compensation. I'm glad that Ms. Bearup is getting the best deal on this copy! 😁 Writing and the attendant foofaraw is difficult work and should be rewarded.

I love that they pay the authors better. If they're set up like Walmart/Sam's Club, it's because they buy in large quantities with exclusive contracts. So it's the people who MAKE the book that make less per book.

I don’t know how you feel about direct sales, but I suspect signed copies would be quite popular. I know Brandon Sanderson had a habit of taking his unsold books, signing them, and selling them on his website. Something to think about.

I would definitely buy one. Even though I just ordered mine today at Barnes and Noble. By the way, for anybody else who wants to get theirs from Barnes and Noble, be forewarned they don't actually have copies in the store, and they charge you $5.99 extra for a shipping fee, on top of the 17.99 price. I wasn't very happy about that, but I did it because I wanted to support Jill.

Wow, Amazon has apparently completely overhauled how they're paying authors... (I've had a small conspiracy idea about that, trying to get more authors to skip publishing houses so they have less competition. Because they used to pay LESS to authors, but you had to do Amazon if you wanted your ebook to sell enough to live.)

I self-published my novel via Lulu. If you buy it from there, I make $6.25. If it goes through Amazon (which sends a print-on-demand request to Lulu), I get $1.25. Same sale price of $19.99 (paperback). I added a banner to my site with a link to a page that explains it. Ultimately, it helps me so much more to send people to Lulu, but most people don't know what that is and they do know Amazon.
