@FoDaddy 4 жыл бұрын
@@331Grabber Those were underrated. 260 at wheels would equate to about 300 at the crank. I'd say it would be closer to 270-275 at the wheels. The Cobra R matched or beat the WS6 and SS F-Bodies of the time and did so with a 5 speed transmission and allegedly less power. And on top of that the LT-1's were always thought to have been somewhat underrated as well. So it's more than likely the Cobra R's 351W was underrated too.

I bought a 97 cobra new and it put 266hp and put down 270tq.Honestly I was very disappointed with my 97 cobra.I missed one shift and the motor blew and if you back in history a bunch of the 96 to 98 cobra motors had a lot of issues. I think the 04 cobra 4.6 was the best 4.6 of all time. No head tick issues like we're on the 03 cobras.Even with the head tick issues in 03 I think that version of the 4.6 was way better than the rest.

Everybody does the V8. Every Dino video imaginable. But what did the 79 cobra 2.3 l Turbo do for horsepower and torque? I owned one of those. And that little sucker moved. Had the same drivetrain 87 Turbo coupe Thunderbird. And it did all right. Better than my sons Turbo Coupe automatic. But the engine and transmission out of that 79 is still alive and kicking. I sold it to a guy who put that little four cylinder turbo in a 62 Ford pickup. And I see that truck around town, all the time.

The 87 was much better than the 79. 87 had fuel injection and an intercooler. LMR did a test of the SVO, which was nearly identical to the 87 Tbird. It made 170/250.

One of my favorite Mustangs. Great video. If you can find it, I'd like to see a fox body with .30 overbore, GT40 iron heads, upgraded cam, intake, full exhaust & a custom tune. This combo is/was common in the fox body days and I'm curious what the numbers were on combos like this. Thanks in advance!

Had an '89 5.0, and we always knew the horsepower ratings on these cars were low. Still to this day one of the most enjoyable cars I ever owned. Mine was stolen and totaled. When I went to the wrecker to look at it the driver door was pushed in clear over to the center console. I always hoped that meant the thief got hurt in the wreck. One other tidbit from the time; of the three cars offered LX, GT, and convertible the LX was actually the fastest. It weighed the least. All the cladding and crap on the GT added 300 lbs. and the extra body stiffening in the convertible added another 600 lbs. But the motors were identical. Mine would get completely sideways in 2nd gear. I dragged a similar year IROC in the street and beat him by a car length. And I once ran alongside a new at the time mid-90's ZR-1 Vette and stayed with him. When we stopped at a light I yelled out "Nice car, what did it set you back, $70k?" He nodded yes. I laughed and said well, you beat me by 3 feet and I paid $10k for mine. Hahahaha. They didn't handle great but if you knew how to drive a car with the rear end hanging out, and when to let off the gas and grab a gear they'd dance like ballerina. Little trickier in the rain though. A guy at Car and Driver did a single page on them years back, he said considering bang for the buck, and the low cost of parts & maintenance they were one of the best all-around performance cars ever made. I've always thought that was true. Every gas station in America sells parts for them. And you stomp on that pushrod 302 thing would take off like a raped ape.

Has me wonderin' what my '94 Cobra puts out in it's stock form? Has the same powertrain as this '93 (just a slightly shorter intake manifold) and only has a 27K original miles. Only upgrades mine has is a full exhaust and BBK CAI w/ a 70mm Throttle Body. Im thinking it puts out 230 rwhp if this '93 puts out 222 rwhp. For sure it makes just as much if not slightly more 280 ftlbs Torque. Fun Fact: the '94 Cobra is only 110 lbs heavier than the '93 Cobra and has the safer and more rigid SN95 Foxbody (yes the SN95 is a updated Fox Platform car)...also all SN95 came standard with a better Alternator, 5 Lug spindles, ABS and Dual Air Bags...basically it's a better version of the classic Foxbody and IMO nicer looking and more sleek looking design. I love my '94 Cobra just wish it had more power stock.

With a full exhaust you gotta be in the 250+ range easily ive seen em dyno as high as 265ish with header back exhaust and an intake basically the combo you describe. They pick up more power with exhaust mods only because the engine flows better than a normal 5.0.

@@michaelharris748 Maybe better just because it was nothing to pick up 20-25 hp just by swapping to aftermarket exhaust headers. Factor in full exhaust, highflow cats and a cold air intake and I'd drive it ALL day with a smile on my face lol.

I was drag racing a 5.0 when these were introd. Basicaly the Cobra had GT40 heads , GT40 cast type intake, roller rockers and other tid bits. Adding a Vortech S trim would put them deep into an 11 sec 1/4 mile. Good aftermarket support kinda made these cars pointless. A Cobra intake and AFR heads on a GT would make more power than a Cobra.

They were typically around the 200 whp range give or take 5. The lightweight and torque is what made these cars so much fun. The new 5.0s are faster but the old 5.0s are still very quick, and more fun to drive if that makes sense.

Up to around 100ish mph, then I think the Z28 would slowly pull away primarily because they're more aerodynamic and the extra displacement. I've had both, an 88 GT/90 LX 5.0 and a 94 Z28 and the Z was definitely faster but Fords hold a special place in my heart.
