Aww, lol... You'll get it! Never give up- Never surrender! Fixing any creeks or rattles helps a lot to make the car FEEL solid. That feeling can help out the driving experience by a significant amount. If you're running poly mounts, the car will feel even more 'race' bred/premium, if you locate the rattles and add a little 3M furniture felt pad in between rubbing panels, plastic bits, etc. Just because the NVH is increased, doesn't mean the car should have to feel/sound clapped out! I look forward to seeing what you do next. I went with the FM S1 Turbo kit 2-3 years back- prior to all the K-Swap hype, and I'm feeling like I missed the boat on that aspect... There's always options out there and the journey with your car is YOUR journey together.

@lukeevans37424 ай бұрын
Welcome back :) - I recently purchased a hard top for my NA6 and I can safely say it's the best 'mod' I've ever done. The car feels almost like a different car and instantly half of all those annoying vibrations and rattles disappeared. Now summer's coming I almost don't want to take it off!
@mostlyuselessgarage4 ай бұрын
How much are hardtops these days where you are? I think they look great and quiet rattles down, as you said. Wish I could get one for a reasonable price
@lukeevans37424 ай бұрын
@@mostlyuselessgarage They average about £500 - 600 for a decent one. I think the difference in price is resulting in people importing hardtops to north America. They're more stable than gold prices though so probably a good investment even if the initial cost is high!
@mostlyuselessgarage4 ай бұрын
That's still a good price compared to the £850 to £1200 equivalent prices where I am. I think in the US they tend to also be over $1000USD. We should have stockpiled 100 of them back in 2010 🤣
@lukeevans37424 ай бұрын
@@mostlyuselessgarage Even at that price I think it's worth it - you'll never lose any money on it if you sell it (unlike literally every other mod :D )

I think it sounds ok, and it makes more power at the wheel than it did at the crank when new. Best of all, you did all that yourself.

Maybe you just need some forced induction. The B207R stock boost 12.8 psi with an auto in a 9-3 Sportcombi is pretty fun. I can tell having that motor in my 95 miata would be a blast. It's not a great sounding motor but its a workhorse.

Really like the intro on this video! Are there any easy mods you can do to that motor to get more out of it?
@mostlyuselessgarage4 ай бұрын
Thx for mentioning it! Altho the Miata content takes center stage, learning about filming and editing is a fun process. Yes, ofc there are many mods just like any motor. Ported heads, cams, valve train, pistons, etc but the point of this swap is the cheap motor. That said, I have some ideas 😁

Did you adjust the clutch pedal rod under the dash. I had the same issue when I changed my clutch and 6 speed swap.
@mostlyuselessgarage4 ай бұрын
I did but didn't film it. I followed the Flyin Miata instructions IIRC and besides the rod it involved getting the clutch slave piston to just about be pushed out of the cylinder. But ya that's a good suggestion, maybe I need to double-check it, thanks!
@mostlyuselessgarage4 ай бұрын
I extended the clutch rod even further and there's barely any play with pedal engagement. The grinds are still there but might be better. Thx for the tip!
@jseb19774 ай бұрын
Check the bushing on the fork at the end of the rod. If you can wiggle it you need new bushing. This will make the engagement different every time you shift.

Hmm, all that work for a handful of extra horses under the bonnet (sorry, hood). Is there something you're not telling us or is that the face of a seriously disappointed man? I really hope you can get more out of the motor (although it was a bit smoky at the top end on the dyno). Looking forward to what you do next....

You have proven you are no longer useless. Your motor has. Now rip it out and put something in with power!

Thx dude, that's always an option ... with more funds anything's possible. What would you suggest??
@Maverick06874 ай бұрын
@@mostlyuselessgarage I would personally suggest the LS1. I’m actually building this now. V8Roadsters swap kit. LM4 aluminum block LS. It’s a 5.3 im boring to a 5.7. T56 trans. Standalone ecu from Holley. Expensive? Yes! So a budget option may be to boost that motor you have. Or do the LS swap but keep the motor in stock form.
