I though he was talking about per kilo first. 1g per kilo is fine and slightly in the upper end of what people not into weight training need to grow muscles optimally. 1.4g per kilo is enough for everyone that isnt bodybuilding or do very hard volume exercising. 1.7g is the recommended amount for the heaviest category of muscle building, including strongmen and olympic weightlifters. 1g per pound is 2.2g per kilo, and way way more than you should intake at all. Higher protein intake like 1 g/lb will not do any long term damage unless you have specific underlying health conditions. Though you’re right that 1 g/lb is probably unnecessary (as he alluded to in the video). I’ve seen 1.6 g/kg in the literature, which is the 0.7 g/lb that he quoted. If you are losing weight then you might benefit from a little bit higher amount to preserve lean muscle. It’s also important to note that it’s 1.6 g/kg of ideal body weight, not your current weight. If you weigh 250 lb but are untrained, you don’t need to eat more protein than Dr. Mike Israetel.
