Thanks for sharing. While the "rule-of-thumb" KG/M3 really depends on the design detail, it is a good approach to derive and track these numbers😊

Hi man, I was wondering if you know when your next courses are running? Also, do you have a tenplate for the excel document you use in the "Introduction to Cost Estimation Methods in Construction" video? Makes things so much easier for me to understand looking at your layout. Thanks Niall.

Hello. Your videos are interesting and useful. sorry but I can`t understand why you calculate steel. Is it previous calculation? Is there calculation in a project? Its interesting for me because in Ukraine we have all this steel in a project dividing to contraction elements
@CEPQS Жыл бұрын
Hello Hanna, and thank you for reaching out. Regarding steel reinforcement calculations there 2 stages of calculating. The first one is done at the time of bidding or estimating the cost and it will be approximate using only the information provided in the tender documents. The second stage is when executing the work, and in this stage you will have the steel reinforcement shop drawings, out of which you can establish BBS (bar bending schedule) and from the BBS you calculate the exact steel quantity and diameters to order and fix at site. In both stages you will need to calculate element wise as you stated. So in general you need to know the steel quantity in each element in the project, but the accuracy of calculation will depend on whether or not you have a BBS. Hope this clarifies your concern 👍

sorry is the steel wieght above is correct? 2*1.58+2*1.58+7*.617=10kg can't get it
@CEPQS Жыл бұрын
When steel weight is calculated then divided by the concrete volume it gives you the steel ratio kg/m3.
@jeffnidea4672Ай бұрын
You forgot to multiply the length. So that's 1.578*1.00*4 + 0.617*(2*(0.2+0.6))*7 = 13.22kg But still, I'm confused as to how the result of 14.1kg was calculated @CEPQS Any help sir?

Thank You so much for such knowledgeable content . Sir how for 1st row how you bought 14.10 kg? If we consider the beams for the complete slab there must be lapping and bends, in that case the weight of the steel will increase , Please Sir can you clear my doubt
@ismailhilalhilal9184 Жыл бұрын
Please it would be great if you explain this with an example if beam has extra support at middle and end
@adamding Жыл бұрын
I will give a shot if I may. First the required rebar cover for concrete beam is usually 30mm minimum (or the bar diameter size). So you just remember the number to be deducted is 0.03 m all the way around. You have longitude bars 4 EA (2 top and 2 bottom) running for 1 M - 0.03 X 2 ends = 0.94 M, total length 4 x 0.94 = 3.76 M. The mass is 1.57 KG/M for 16mm bar. So the first weight for continuous bars are 3.76 x 1.57 = 5.9 KG. Next, stirrups are wrapping around, so depth and width of the beam need to used (0.6 + 0.2) x 2 for perimeter but you need to deduct rebar cover on all directions 0.03 x 4, so the stirrup is (0.6+0.2) x 2-0.03*4= 1.48 M. You have 7 stirrups and the mass is 0.785 kg/m, so the weight for stirrup is 7 x 1.48 x 0.785 = 8.14 KG. Total weight is 5.9+8.14 = 14.04. Close to he had. Just my two cents. In North America, we refer to the bars he used as 10M and 15M bars 😃

@@adamding I really appreciate your effort to explain this, But the this in my min is consider a Beam B1 200*600mm with 4 bar 1mm (2 top+ 2 bottom) with these we have some extra support at end suppot and middle support (2 bar 16mm) + we have 2 extra bottom (12mm curtail bar) in such case how we have to estimate the steel by thumb rule?
@adamding Жыл бұрын
@@ismailhilalhilal9184 We use accessories like chairs and bolsters here for bar support. But to be honest, if the purpose was to derive kg/m3 rule of thumb number, I would NOT do any dimension deduction for rebar cover. My number would have been a bit over 15 kg/m3 to be enough, because you will use it for future cost planning.
@CEPQS Жыл бұрын
Correct. My calculations are actually neglecting the cover. Cover should be calculated for better accuracy ofc. but since we are not considering the overlaps and other small steel details in the qty, then i believe it is better to calculate that way to get a safer qty lets say. and thank you for the addition. 👍👍

Please what is the difference between cost Estimate and cost plan
@adamding Жыл бұрын
While these two terms have been mixed by the owner(client) very often, Cost Estimate is more used by the contractors as they deal with more detailed tender drawings and Cost Plan is more used by the Consulting Quantity Surveyors where they work from various design stages such as feasibility study, schematic design, design development. I can only speak for the situation here in North America though🤣

What is WA & BA refers to?
@CEPQS2 жыл бұрын
I’ll make a detailed video to explain the whole sheet in details 🙂 👍
@adamding Жыл бұрын
Seems to me that he is calculating the formwork contact area. WA could mean whole area and the math of WA = 2 x L X D (2 vertical sides of beam) + L X B (bottom side of beam). BA could mean bottom area, BA = L X B for bottom side only. Correct me if I wrong😁
